Sarah “Papa, Mama, wake up, please” Tears stung my eyes as my parents laid helplessly on the ground, we were just returning from the casillias ranch at Costra Nostra, when our car got in the middle of a shoot-out between two different cartels, we shrieked in fear,as papa slowed down the car, and turned the steering wheel to revise. Then we heard a loud sound from behind, it was from one of the tyres, which had just been deflated by a bullet. Panicked, we let out a helpless cry, papa held his grip firmly to the steering wheel and stepped on the brakes, he clenched his hands on the steering wheel as he tried to gain control. We unfortunately got to a speed bump, he tried his best to slow down but the car came to an halt, causing a tyre to roll off. The car tipped over and everything went blank. Drowned in fear, my eyes all welled up in tears, I crawled to my parents who were lying still on the ground, their bodies all bruised up and covered with blood "open your eyes please". I tried to stand but I couldn't move from the bruises on me. The car was a complete mess, it was all wrecked up and covered with smoke, blood streamed down my face from my head. Looking around for help, dizziness struck me and I collapsed to the ground. When I finally opened my eyes, a bright light was in front of me almost blinding me. "Where am i?" I asked and winced as a sharp pain shot through my head. "You're in the hospital" a voice replied. I looked up to the person, it was uncle Delvin. He looked at me with scrutinizing eyes, as I tried to sit up straight. The accident came like a flash and I turned towards him. "Papa, Mama, where are they?" I asked with teary eyes. He didn't reply. "where are my parents?" I asked again,my heart thumping widely against my chest. He fully closed his eyes avoiding my worried gaze. "What happened?" I blurted with a sob. "You need to rest" he replied and leaves the room. I couldn’t help it as more tears fell from my face, I feared the worst had happened to them and that’s why he couldn’t bring himself to tell me. ‘Could they be dead?’ I tried to stand but my legs could barely carry me. The door opened and a nurse walked into the room, "How are you feeling?" she asked with a smile. "I want to see my parents" I blurted staring at her with teary eyes. She lowered her gaze to the floor and sighed, she raised her head and looked at me, her face filled with pity. "You're recovering quick" she said trying to wave it off. Why was everyone ignoring me? "What happened?," "please tell me" I begged anxious to know. "Where are my parents?" I yelled anxiously, I could hear my heart beating loudly and faster against my chest. "They're dead" uncle Delvin replied standing at the door. He drifted into the room "They didn't survive the accident" he added and stopped. "WHAT!" "No" I shook my head, refusing to believe what he had just said, if I was able to survive then they should too. They couldn’t leave their child like that. I was sobbing hard now, the top of my blouse was drenched with tears, Uncle Delvin and the nurse excused themselves and left the room. I held my head in disbelief and cried out loud,the news struck me hard, like a shattering blow so I cried my eyes out again and my head began to ache,my eyes were already swollen from so much crying. I leaned back on the bed, resting my head on the pillow, My eyes were closed for most of the time. I felt like ending my life too. A tap on my shoulders woke me up, I had been so engrossed in my pain that I didn’t notice another figure in the room. "Feeling better" she asked. I didn't reply, i was too weak to speak. "You've been discharged" she said with a smile, as if there was anything to smile about, then Uncle Delvin walked into the room. "Excuse us"he said and immediately the nurse left the room, he pulls a stool and sits beside me. "How are you feeling?" he asked with concern. I tried to speak but my speech was muffled. " Are you feeling better?" he asked. I nodded with a sob. "Where are their bodies"I managed to ask. "In the cemetery,they've already been buried"he said in a soft tone and immediately tears began bluring my eyes, I wasn't even given the chance to see them and say goodbye to them "You have been discharged, we're leaving in an hour" he said as he stood up and left the room to take a call. "We!" I muttered as his words stunged me, my parents were gone, I had no one at home, and the last thing I wanted , was to live with Uncle Delvin, there were several reasons why. I just couldn't stand his family, his wife Maria; who had a deep seated disdain for me.It was clear to me that she never liked me, and his daughter Kayla. I was never comfortable around his family. The nurse entered the room with some clothes on her hands, she stared at my swollen eyes and sighed in pity. "I brought some clothes for you" she said with a smile in a friendly tone. "I'm sure they will fit just right" she flustered looking at me to hear my reply, I nodded and immediately she helped me get up and I wore the clothes, it was a light pink blouse and blue jeans, the jeans were a bit loose, and also comfy. Then Uncle Delvin entered the room with a man, the man wore a black shirt,tucked in a black jean, with a pair of thick black boots. I spotted the gun inserted in a hostler behind his back and immediately I knew he was one of Delvins guard. "We leave now” Delvin said. "No" I blurted and sat on the bed. I refuse to go anywhere with him. He looked like he didn’t have much time. He glared at me ferociously, "You have no choice Sarah" he said and signaled his guard to pick me. "Pedro" he called _Si capo_ "yes boss".Pedro replied. "Bring the girl" he ordered and immediately, Pedro walks to me grabs my arm. "Let's go Miss" He dragged me out. ,
