THE OPS LIEUTENANT rings Sergeant Gruner and tells him they’ve tracked Maria Sanchez’s phone to a remote location not far from Begert. Because of the off-base location, they contacted city police, and Security Forces met them at the site. They found her empty vehicle parked to the side of the road. When they checked the car, they discovered a large amount of blood on the driver’s seat.
“Thank you, Lieutenant. It sounds like a potential homicide. You said the police will initiate a full investigation?”
“Yes, sir. And officers are searching for her partner, Noah Wilson. They’ve requested the personnel files.”
“All right, I’ll obtain those for you. I assume you’ll act as the base contact for the P.D.?”
“Yes, sir.”
