Chapter 7: Are You His Girlfriend? “Jingjing, let's go!” Su Yixia pulled Jingjing by the hand as she was still lost in a daze, following the woman into the elevator. As the elevator ascended floor by floor, Su Yixia’s mood soared with it. If this job could provide stability, she could help ease her mother’s burden. The elevator stopped at the 18th floor. Su Yixia and Jingjing followed the woman out and were led to the door of a luxurious conference room. The woman politely invited them in, “Please, go ahead.” “Thank you,” Su Yixia replied courteously, while Jingjing was still starstruck. When Su Yixia entered the conference room, the first thing she noticed was the back of a man in a suit. Apart from her and Jingjing, there was no one else in the large conference room. This must be Mr. Zuo, she thought, and politely greeted him, “Hello, Mr. Zuo.” “Hello,” Zuo Chuan turned around with a charming smile, “I’m glad you’ve decided to join Zuo Group.” “Hello, Mr. Zuo,” Jingjing was so excited that she nearly jumped when she realized that the president himself was personally greeting them. “Su Yixia?” Zuo Chuan ignored Jingjing and walked straight up to Su Yixia, his handsome gaze scrutinizing her. “Ye Xi mentioned you to me. Are you his girlfriend?” “Did he say that?” Su Yixia’s brows furrowed instantly. She never expected Ye Xi to talk about her with Zuo Chuan. A peculiar feeling crept into her heart. Surprisingly, she didn’t dislike it. “I hope we can also become good friends at work,” Zuo Chuan maintained his gentlemanly demeanor and smiled. “You can head to the HR department to complete the paperwork. You can start work this weekend.” “So soon?” Jingjing hadn’t even fully processed the situation. But what concerned Su Yixia more was the work schedule, so she quickly asked, “Mr. Zuo, could you tell me what the working hours are?” “The hours are from 8 PM to midnight, and you’ll only need to work eight days a month,” Zuo Chuan answered with a smile. “At night?!” Jingjing turned pale upon hearing the schedule. “But it’s so dangerous at night! There’s been news of a serial killer lately.” “Don’t worry, we have security,” Zuo Chuan’s words instantly eased her concerns. “Alright, I agree,” Su Yixia hesitated for a moment but then agreed to Zuo Chuan’s terms. She wasn’t sure why, but her intuition told her it was the right decision. As they left Zuo Group, Jingjing continued to grumble, “Xiao Yi, why did you agree to work for Zuo Chuan? It’s nighttime! It’s so scary, and we’re just girls. Aren’t you afraid of going home at night?” “Jingjing, didn’t you say getting hired by Zuo Group was a rare opportunity?” Su Yixia looked at Jingjing curiously. “Since we’ve got the chance, we should make the most of it.” “Don’t tell me you agreed because Zuo Chuan is Ye Xi’s brother, and you want to work here because of that?” Jingjing’s expression suddenly turned mischievous. “Xiao Yi, come on, tell me. Is that the reason? Have you fallen for the new campus heartthrob, Ye Xi?” “Jingjing, stop joking!” Honestly, Jingjing’s words stirred something in Su Yixia’s heart. She couldn’t help but think of Ye Xi’s handsome face and the skull ring he always wore. “Ring, ring, ring!” Her phone rang in her pocket, and she smiled as she answered the unfamiliar number, “Hello, who is this?” “Hello, I’m Cheng Nuo’s father,” a deep voice came through the phone. “Could I ask for your help?” “Cheng Nuo’s father?” Su Yixia’s face instantly turned grim at the mention of the name. So, there really was something between her and Cheng Nuo. Otherwise, why would Cheng Nuo’s father be calling her? “Cheng Nuo’s father?!” Jingjing, curious about the situation, asked, “Does he want you to go to the hospital?” Sure enough, Jingjing guessed right. On the other end of the line, Cheng Nuo’s father pleaded, “Su Yixia, I know Cheng Nuo likes you. He’s lying in the hospital because of you, and the doctors said that finding something or someone to stimulate him might wake him up. So, I beg you, please help me wake him up, okay?” “Uncle, I…” Su Yixia didn’t know how to respond. She couldn’t bring herself to reject his request, but she hadn’t even figured out the nature of her relationship with Cheng Nuo. “Xiao Yi, you should agree,” Jingjing urged her anxiously. “Alright, Uncle, I’ll help you,” seeing Jingjing’s worried face and recalling the scene she witnessed at the hospital, Su Yixia finally nodded. After hanging up, Jingjing began to recount the story between Su Yixia and Cheng Nuo, “Xiao Yi, I don’t know how you forgot about Cheng Nuo, but when you were together, he was really good to you!” “Cheng Nuo was really my boyfriend?” Su Yixia’s expression grew darker. If what Jingjing said was true, then it meant she had selective amnesia. There was no other explanation. “Yes,” Jingjing nodded firmly. “Xiao Yi, Cheng Nuo was the most sought-after heartthrob at our school. Countless girls liked him, and he came from a wealthy and influential family. Even our school belle, Xu Yue, had a crush on him. You know, we used to be good friends with Xu Yue, but we fell out because of Cheng Nuo.” “And then?” Su Yixia wanted to hear more about the memories she had lost. “Then, you and Xu Yue had a falling out, but Cheng Nuo adored you. He didn’t let anyone hurt you. Before Ye Xi transferred, Cheng Nuo was the undisputed top heartthrob at our school. His close friend, Leng Mohan, was also a popular heartbreaker, but he was too much of a playboy to be as desirable as Cheng Nuo!” Jingjing reminisced about how everyone envied Su Yixia and Cheng Nuo’s relationship. She couldn’t recount everything at once. “Jingjing, can you tell me everything?” Su Yixia felt increasingly uneasy. If Cheng Nuo was in a coma because of her, she felt responsible, and she had to do something about it. “Xiao Yi, Cheng Nuo was really good to you. I’m sure many people were jealous. A week ago, it was your birthday. I heard that Cheng Nuo put a lot of effort into planning your party. He even rented out the most romantic date hall and prepared 9,999 paper cranes for you. But then, you were in a car accident…” Jingjing paused to recall more details before adding, “Do you remember the photo of you two on the bulletin board? Cheng Nuo put it up to show the whole school that you two were a couple.” “Jingjing, is everything you’re saying true?” Su Yixia’s frown deepened. Why couldn’t she remember any of this? What was wrong with her? “Of course, it’s true!” Jingjing nodded seriously. “Xiao Yi, I swear I’m not lying!” A sleek, expensive car was parked by the roadside. Ye Xi sat inside, his face expressionless, both hands gripping the steering wheel, with the skull ring on his hand clearly visible. Although he was a bit far from Su Yixia and Jingjing, he could hear every word of their conversation. His face instantly darkened, as if a layer of ice had settled over it. He never expected Zuo Chuan to make such a bold move by letting Su Yixia work at his company. What’s more, despite erasing Su Yixia’s memory, she was still gravitating toward Cheng Nuo! No, he couldn’t allow this to happen! Zuo Group. Zuo Chuan was in a meeting. The cold Ye Xi pushed open the door, interrupting Zuo Chuan, who was leading the meeting. “Zuo Chuan, come out,” he said icily. Ye Xi’s sudden appearance sent a chill through the room. Everyone knew he was Zuo Chuan’s younger brother, but Ye Xi rarely showed up. Whenever he did, he brought an aura of coldness that made people shiver. So, no one dared to approach him. “What’s up, Ye Xi?” In his private lounge, Zuo Chuan looked at Ye Xi with displeasure. “You never barge into my company like this. What’s going on?” “Zuo Chuan, why did you let Su Yixia join the company?!” Ye Xi almost growled. “Oh, it’s about that,” Zuo Chuan relaxed and chuckled lightly. “She applied for the job herself. It had nothing to do with me!” “Don’t think I don’t know the truth!” Ye Xi was furious. “I’ve lived for over a hundred years. Don’t think you can hide your intentions from me!” “Alright, Ye Xi, I’ll be straightforward with you,” Zuo Chuan said without beating around the bush. “I want to keep an eye on her. I will not allow anyone to uncover your identity or to harm you.” “You think humans can hurt me?” Ye Xi sneered. “Maybe one person can’t, but what about ten? Or a hundred? Can you handle that?” Zuo Chuan scoffed. “Don’t think that being a vampire makes you invincible. Don’t underestimate humans today!” “Zuo Chuan, I’m warning you don’t harm Su Yixia, or I won’t let you get away with it!” Ye Xi, unwilling to waste any more time, said this and left in a flash. “Ye Xi, of course, I wouldn’t harm Su Yixia, because I don’t need to lift a finger,” Zuo Chuan said with a nonchalant smirk, speaking to himself.
