In the hospital room.
Cheng Nuo lay quietly on the bed, the heartbeat monitor next to him ticking regularly. Xu Yue, with red eyes, sat by Cheng Nuo’s bedside, tightly holding his hand.
Cheng’s mother was wiping her tears continuously, feeling helpless and unsure when her son would wake up.
Cheng’s father stood by the bed with a furrowed brow, having been worried for ten days as his son remained unconscious. He was growing increasingly concerned.
As Su Yixia approached the hospital room, she hesitated upon seeing several people inside, especially Xu Yue, which made her nervous.
Just as she was about to push the door open, she overheard a conversation inside:
“Honey, do you think Su Yixia will come?” Cheng’s mother asked anxiously.
“I’m not sure. Although Su Yixia comes from a poor family, Xiao Nuo said she is a filial child. She should come,” Cheng’s father sighed in reply.
“But since Xiao Nuo had the accident, Su Yixia hasn’t visited him. She probably doesn’t care about him anymore!” Cheng’s mother said with some anger. “Our Xiao Nuo was so foolish, liking that poor girl Su Yixia instead of someone like Xu Yue. Now, he’s suffering!”
“Auntie!” Xu Yue, who had been watching over the bed, looked up and stood, “Don’t count on Su Yixia. She’s already moved on to the new campus heartthrob, Ye Xi. She even told me herself that she’s switched boyfriends!”
Even though Su Yixia could only hear them through the door and a wall, she could understand their conversation clearly. Her brow furrowed slightly. Her hearing had always been poor, but why was it so sharp now? What was happening to her?
After hesitating for a moment, Su Yixia finally knocked on the door, “Knock, knock, knock!”
Cheng’s father came to open the door and, seeing Su Yixia, offered a warm smile. “You’re here. Please come in.”
“You wicked woman!” Xu Yue’s eyes flared with anger when she saw Su Yixia. She walked up to Su Yixia and shoved her roughly, “You’re not welcome here. Get out!”
“Xu Yue!” Cheng’s mother, although not fond of Su Yixia, intervened and pulled the agitated Xu Yue back. “Su Yixia is here on our request. We need her to wake Cheng Nuo.”
“Cheng Nuo would never like such a fickle woman!” Xu Yue glared at Su Yixia with hostility. “So please, leave!”
Cheng’s father stepped forward and kindly addressed Xu Yue, “Xu Yue, whether it works or not, we should let her try. Even if there’s a tiny chance, we can’t give up!”
“Hmph!” Xu Yue shot Su Yixia one last angry look before storming out of the room.
Cheng’s father and mother followed her out, leaving Su Yixia alone with the unconscious Cheng Nuo.
Su Yixia slowly walked to the bedside, gazing at Cheng Nuo’s handsome but pale face, feeling a pang of heartache.
“Do we really know each other?” Su Yixia gently sat down and couldn’t help but touch his face. For some reason, as soon as her hand touched his face, she shivered.
In her mind, images began to flash—under the tall sycamore tree, a handsome confession, romantic dates on the playground, envious glances from classmates, and scenes of him picking her up in a sports car—all memories came flooding back.
“I’m sorry, Cheng Nuo!” Tears flowed uncontrollably as she crouched by his bed and cried bitterly, “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Can you forgive me?”
Choking up, she tightly grasped Cheng Nuo’s hand and said, “Cheng Nuo, please wake up soon. I’ll agree to anything if you wake up. I promise I’ll make up for everything. I promise I’ll never let you suffer alone again. I’m sorry. Forgive me, okay?”
Perhaps it was Su Yixia’s heartfelt plea or the connection between lovers, but Cheng Nuo’s fingers gradually began to move. Seeing this, Su Yixia’s tear-streaked face lit up with joy as she shouted, “Cheng Nuo, wake up! Cheng Nuo, it’s Su Yixia. Please wake up quickly, okay?”
“Xiao Yi~” Cheng Nuo’s eyes actually opened, and upon seeing Su Yixia, a rare smile spread across his pale face. “It’s really you? I thought I’d never see you again. Xiao Yi, are you hurt?”
Su Yixia shook her head through her tears, “I’m fine, I’m perfectly okay. Cheng Nuo, I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have had the accident. What will I do if you can’t wake up?”
“I’m sorry!” Cheng Nuo shook his head, feeling guilty. “It’s my fault. It was my driving error, and it has nothing to do with you. How can I blame you?”
“But I…” Su Yixia was heartbroken. The fact that she had forgotten him pained her deeply.
“Xiao Yi, just having you by my side is happiness for me!” Cheng Nuo reached out and held Su Yixia’s hand gently. “Xiao Yi, promise me you won’t ever let go of my hand again, okay?”
“Mm~” Su Yixia nodded firmly. Seeing Cheng Nuo’s gaunt face and pale skin, she felt a deep pang of sympathy. “Are you hungry? Let me get you something to eat, okay?”
“No!” Cheng Nuo held Su Yixia’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go. “Xiao Yi, don’t leave me, okay?”
“Okay, I won’t leave you!” From this moment on, Su Yixia decided she would never leave him again, no matter what happened.
Outside the hospital room, the handsome Ye Xi stood expressionless. His face was cold, and upon hearing Su Yixia and Cheng Nuo’s conversation, his deep blue eyes turned fiery red, and his fangs emerged. At that moment, he had an urge to tear through human throats.
“Su Yixia, I won’t let you take Cheng Nuo away!” While Cheng’s parents were talking with the doctor, Ye Xi quietly slipped back inside. He was determined to not let Su Yixia stay by Cheng Nuo’s side or awaken him. That was something only he could do!
However, when Xu Yue returned, she saw a mysterious figure standing outside the room. From the silhouette, he appeared to be an exceptionally handsome man.
“You looking for someone?” Xu Yue approached and asked, but as soon as he turned around, she was stunned—wasn’t he Su Yixia’s new boyfriend?
Before Xu Yue could question him, a red light flashed in his eyes. The next second, she fainted.
Ye Xi, now consumed by fury, swiftly picked up Xu Yue and left in a flash, unseen by anyone.
Just then, Cheng’s mother and father entered the room, their faces lighting up with joy upon seeing Cheng Nuo awake. Tears of happiness streamed down their faces as they exclaimed, “Xiao Nuo, you’re awake! You really woke up!”
