AURORA'S POV
I didn't get to sleep even for a minute after my parents informed me about the news. A fiancée?!
Why didn't they even bother to find Aura's own fiancée? Why me? I sighed when I arrived at the academy. After I told my parents that I will be staying in the dormitory, they warned me not to flee from the country.
"Heavy sigh, what's up?" I was shocked when Stella suddenly in front of me. "Hold on. I know why. I overheard my parents talking about something." She smirked. "Don't even think of reminding me that I have to meet him officially in today's meeting. Just don't and you know why." Stella laughed at my reaction.
"Who would've thought that the well-mannered and kind Scion is a lipstick lesbian. Right?" Can she be louder than this? "Shut up Stella. Anyway, where's Luna? She usually the first to greet me, not you." Stella pointed at something. When I turned in the direction she pointed at, I noticed someone familiar with Luna.
"What's going on?" I asked. "Maya did something. That's all." She snickered. "What did she do?" I asked. It seems like Maya apologizing about something. "As you can see, Luna's clothing is ruin because Maya ran into her with her breakfast." I noticed the stained on Luna's uniform.
"Oh no. That's awful. I hope that's not the only food Maya has." Stella chuckled. "You should be worried about something else but the food is important too I guess." I decided to walk up to Luna and Maya.
"Excuse me," I announced myself. "Oh, my lady." As usual, Luna curtsy in front of me. "Hey." I chuckled mentally. "You should be more polite towards the Scion of Monarch Academy. "
Luna said to her. "It's okay Luna. Maybe you should go and change to a new uniform? We do have an important meeting at noon. Remember?" Luna nodded and excuse herself. I turned my gaze to Maya. Something is not right with her. I didn't notice the eye bags under her eyes yesterday.
"Do you want to walk together to the classroom building?" I politely asked her. "Is it okay for me to do so? I mean, look around, they all ready to kill me .... literally." Oh yes, she's right. I look around and smiled. "That's okay. I'm the one who requests you to do so. It's my responsibility."
"What the heck. You only live once. Right?" I froze when she smiled at me. Whoa. What is this feeling in my heart? Its like she just pierced it with her award-winning smile. I kept a smile on my face while we walked through the academy.
"Morning, my lady." A group of student greeted me. Oh, I know them. "Morning. Have a good day." I greeted them back.
"Hello, my lady. I hope you have a splendid day ahead of you." Said another group of students while they curtsy. "Good day to you too." I smiled.
"You're a celebrity?" Maya suddenly asked me. "Oh no. I am far from a celebrity. I'm just someone they look up to." I heard Stella scoffed behind us. I turned to her with a warning. If she even blabs about my hobbies I swear I'll crush her. She raised both hands telling me she's surrendering.
We were halfway towards the academy square when I noticed Maya reaching something from her jacket. "Is that your lunch?" I asked when she's starting to unwrapping a bun. "Yea but I'm still hungry." She took a bite and offered me her half eaten bun. "Want some?" I just look at the bun and at her back and forth.
We stopped walking when she realized what she had done.
"I'm sorry my lady. I didn't mean to offend you with my action. It just slipped my mind." She bows down while apologizing. I heard Stella trying hard not to laugh at this situation. I chuckled before took a little bit of the bun she offered. I cover my mouth with my hands and savor the taste.
"Hmmm.. chocolate bun. My favorite." She just stares at me and so does the other students except for Stella who's about to burst. "Did you just.... my bun... you really..." I tilted my head when I swallow. "You did offer it correctly?" I smiled. Her hands were shaking.
"Let's go to our own classroom," I said before we continued to walk.
I'm pretty sure she's nervous around me. I can feel it. When I look back at her, she was staring at the bun. "What is it?" I asked. "I don't know if I should eat or sell the bun." Huh? Sell a half eaten bun? "What do you mean?"
She looked around and so am I. Some of the students were waving their money at us. "Oh. That. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." I apologized. "I feel like I'm the one who should be apologizing." By now Stella can't contain her laughter anymore. "I have an idea. Since you both feel guilty about whatever it is, why not ask Maya to help you with today."
Stella said. "Help you? Gladly." Maya replied. Stella smirked. I can see right through her. This is probably about the soeur thing again. "Maya, do you have a big sister?" Stella asked. "No. Just older brothers. Why?" Stella's smirk widens. "Oh great. Do you want one?" She asked.
"Aurora here is looking for a candidate for a soeur. I want you to try your luck. Okay?" She just asked her easily! Maya seems to be confused. "I'm not fluent in French so, what's a soeur?" She asked.
"Soeur is sister in English. Here in Monarch, we have grande soeur and soeur program where a third-year student will have their own soeur. They may choose a first or second-year student."
Stella wrapped her hands around Maya's shoulder. "But, if you choose Aurora, you will have something far greater than a normal life with your grande soeur." Ugh. Why do I have a friend like her? "
"You will have the opportunity to travel the world, have amazing life experience and your family shall be pampered with the life of wealth and luxury." She leaned into Maya.
"And you get to meet Glen and Autumn Heroux." Maya tilted her head. "Who?" She asked. I laughed mentally. She looks so innocent, I like it!
"You'll know soon. So, will you accept?" She looks reluctant. Deep down I want her to accept. "I don't know. It sounds like my family will hate the idea of me being a slut." I can't believe she just .... what?! I started to laugh together with Stella. "You completely misunderstand the explanation here," Stella said between laugh.
"We didn't mean that you have to sell your body. See Stella, your explanation doesn't explain anything to her. Basically, Maya, if you agreed on being my soeur, I will only be your big sister thus, the meaning of grande soeur." I explained. "But I'm a commoner. I am not worthy to be one."
"Nonsense. There's no such thing as a commoner. We all equal here." Stella smiled.
Maya told me that she will only give her answer by lunchtime. We parted ways as she went to the first floor while Stella and I went up to the second floor. "Hey, seems like she wanted to be one. But I do sense something is not right. Do you think she's in debt or something?"
Stella is right. I noticed it too. "I don't know. Maybe? I'm not sure but the only thing I'm sure is she look trouble." We entered our classroom and I smiled at Luna who's sitting in her designated seat. How was it possible for her to be here before us?
"I've heard. What did she say?" How is it possible for her to know that too?! She showed me her phone. "Stella updated me." I sighed while I turned to Stella.
"Are you forgetting something?" She asked. "We have a meeting with the school representative, meeting your fiancée." I shut Luna up with my hand. Our classmate turned to us when they noticed I'm being weird. "Shut up Luna. I do remember. Don't worry." I took a seat before our teacher came in.
I don't know if I can even face the man that my parents choose to be my betrothed. Why can't Aura be treated this way? Why me!
"Aurora... Aurora..." Stella called for me. "This is so not you. I didn't know you could even sleep in class." Stella chuckled when I look up at her. "I didn't have enough sleep. Luna, you should marry him instead, okay?" Luna snickered.
"No way Aurora. I don't want to be bound with a politician son. Not like him anyway." Well, worth the shot.
I clean up my stationery and stood up from my seat. I walked out of the classroom together with Luna and Stella. I noticed Ophelia standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"Ophelia?... Maya?" Maya smiled. "I decided to accept the offer to become your soeur." Everyone around us gasped and whispering to one another.
I smiled.
"Good. Follow me please." I said. "Being Aurora's soeur meaning you have to walk beside her, not behind us," Stella explained. "Since your grande soeur is Aurora, we have to listen to what you have to say as well. It's kind of a big deal being the Scion's soeur." Ophelia added.
"Also, you have the full authority over the faculty member as well," Luna informed. "Huh! Hold on! How is that possible?" She asked. "A lady shouldn't yell," I said while walking towards the Azalea mansion. "I'm sorry." She apologized.
"We will make this official in front of everyone in the meeting today. I want it to be broadcast all over the academy. Even at the kindergarten, elementary and middle school." I told Stella. "Yes, ma'am." Stella seems happy for a change. She's planning something, isn't she?
"What am I suppose to do?" Maya asked when we arrived at the mansion. "Just stand behind me while the meeting started. Also if you have something to say during the meeting, just say so. You have the same authority as I am." I smiled at her. "Okay. But, I probably will never say anything."
Hold on, I remember something. "Have you eaten?" I asked. She shyly shook her head. I look at the wall clock. We have half an hour left. More than enough to grab something to eat. "Follow me." I turned to Stella. "I'm going to have my lunch now." She nodded and went to a room. I walked up the stairs towards the first floor.
"This is the place where the student government body has their meals. You may order anything. It's free to have." I explained while took an empty seat. I noticed she didn't take a seat for herself. "Why are you not sitting?" I asked. She turned to the corner. "Am I suppose to do that? Standing behind my grande soeur while she eats?"
I chuckled. "No. Sit. Please." I invited her. "Since we don't have much time, I took the liberty to let Stella surprise us with the food. I hope it's alright." She nodded. She's not much of a talker huh. When the food arrived, she reluctant to eat it. She still gets nervous huh?
I assure her that everything will be okay. The lunch was awkward because of the silence but at least I know she's not hungry. "It's time," Luna called for us.
"Ready?" I asked my new soeur. She nodded. I stood up and so does she. I lead the way towards the meeting room. Before I opened the door, Maya held my shoulder. I turned to her before she removed her hand. "I'm sorry. I'll open it for you." I nodded. Why do I feel my heart is pounding when she touched me?
Before I could even savor the feeling I smell something foreign in my nostril. I sighed mentally when I noticed the scent of men and there's a lot of it. One of them should be my fiancée but which one? Somehow I don't feel butterflies bursting my stomach like my dad said I will.
They all... average looking.
"Seems like everyone is here. Shall we start? I have a polo game with one of my investor by 4." I can't believe I have to deal with this annoying brat again. "You representing the King's Academy, correct?" Luna asked. "I am." Luna smiled. "Shut up for a second will you." Yikes. Luna needs to tone down her bitchy attitude.
His face reddens with a mix of embarrassment and anger.
"So much for the poise and well-mannered Monarch woman." Said an unfamiliar woman. "That uniform, you're from St. Macy prep school, correct?" Stella asked. "Yes." Stella tilted her head. "Your school headmaster owe our Scion more than $500,000 in debt. You have no right to say anything."
"Stella, Luna, let our guest have a breather, will you. So..." I didn't get to finished what I'm about to say when one of them stood up and smiled at me. "Aurora Heroux?" He announced my name. "Yes?" His smile widens even more.
"How rude of me. Let me introduce myself. My name is Hector Rue, president of Monarch Academy."
Oh God no! This is the person my parents said will make the butterflies in my stomach burst?! He's far from perfect for me! "Who is that?" I heard Maya whispered. "My so call fiancée. Remind me to kill my parents for this." Maya chuckled.
"Please have a sit, Sir Hector. We have a lot of things to discuss regarding our academy's future." By now he should know his action are not professional. "Let me be frank, my parents was the one who arranged it all. I didn't accept your hand in marriage. They did." I informed him. His smile vanished.
He sits on his chair and finally acts professionally towards me.
"Luna, you may begin," I said to my president. Luna stood up and began the meeting like we planned. This meeting is important for this year activity because we have a couple of events that need the other academy under Monarch's name for join in. To have St. Macy and King's Academy is bad enough.
Now I have this fiancée thing going on? Dad, mom, are you trying to kill me for some reason? I beginning to regret even being the Scion. Yes, my older sisters were the past Scion in this academy but seriously, do I really need to continue the tradition? I sighed mentally.
"Our first event for this year would be the welcoming dance for the freshman. My lady, do you have any suggestion regarding this matter?" Stella asked. "Is it really okay for the other boys to be joining us?" Luna asked regardless the president is in front of us.
"On that day, King's Academy will be merging with St. Macy correct?" I asked to make sure. "Yes, my lady." Replied St. Macy's president. "I don't see the harm in letting the boys entering our academy ground for one night," I announced.
"But, remember this sir Hector, president of Monarch Academy, if there are some complaints from my girls, you will be the one who will be punished. And yes, this is a warning." Luna said with a mischievous smile. She can be scary as f**k when she needs to. "Yes. What she says." I smiled it off.
I noticed the president of King's Academy scoffed. "Do you have something to say, Sir Bennet?" I waited for him to replied to my question. "No my lady." He said with a hint of hatred. "He was just thinking how a gambler addict like you even manage to be a Scion." Bennet abruptly stood up from his seat and he literally froze.
"That... that's not what I was thinking, my lady. Not at all." He said. "Oh just admit it, Bennet. Your wondering right? I mean, the lady even bet a billion dollar in her name for a silly game of poker!" Yume, St. Macy president laughed. I stopped Stella from standing up.
"Miss Yume, do you hold a grudge on me for you to say such an unnecessary thing in a meeting?" I asked politely. "Yes. Why do we have to listen to you?" She asked. "Because I'm the Scion." She scoffed. "Stop being disrespectful towards the lady, Miss Yume. You'll regret it." Stella said with a hint of anger.
"Oh shut up you guard dog. A person like your lady over there shouldn't have any power at all. I mean, she used her power in tricking a person with gambling! That's absurd! Isn't that the reason why the society gave you a nickname, gambling queen?" I had enough of this.
"Is that all? Does anybody else want to say something? If you do, say it now." I waited a couple of minutes. It was a complete silence. I'm pretty sure they knew it by now that I'm pissed!
"Miss Yume, if I did something that offended you in any way, I apologized. But, you're currently on my turf and I will not let this slide easily. You embarrassed me in front of my soeur. That's unforgivable." I stood up while glaring at her. "I may be the gambling queen, but today, I'm the Scion. Whatever you are now, I'm far more superior than you are."
I turned to Bennet. "And you, King's Academy headmaster should know if you cross the line, I have the authority to change the current faculty member and even your presidency chair. It's his fault suggesting to gamble with me in the first place." I shouldn't say that last part.
"King's Academy and St. Macy both under my wings. I'm sure Monarch Academy has nothing to say. Correct?" I turned to Hector.
"No, ma'am," Hector replied to me.
"If there's nothing else to say, I would like to take this opportunity to announce my soeur to the whole academy and you three will be my witness." Both Stella and Luna gave their soeur the signal. "This inauguration will be all over the academy." I turned to Maya. "Do you want to refuse to be my soeur?" I asked for the last time.
"No, my lady." Even though I'm sure she agreed on this for her own selfish reason, I actually don't mind at all. I smiled.
Stella handed me a bracelet that will show her that she's my soeur. "Do you solemnly swear that you will be loyal to me as my soeur as I will be loyal as your grande soeur?" I asked after taking her wrist in my hands.
"I solemnly swear." I turned to my presidents and the guests. They all nodded. "By today, I dubbed you as my soeur until the day of my graduation." I put the bracelet on her wrist and watched her kissed my hand. "Did Ophelia taught you to do so?" I whispered.
"She did, my lady." I smiled when she curtsy. It's official now. I finally found my soeur and a cute one too.
