6: AWAKENED THE MATE BOND

1995 Words
It didn’t take them a while to settle the burn and pain that the four hunters were feeling. They were already calming down which indicated that they were already safe from the silver poisoning which means they could focus on healing their opened wounds much easier. “You all may rest.” Jennie smiled genuinely at the hunters. They thanked them as soon as as they felt some relief from their pain but when Jennie Sage was about to leave, one hunter asked her. “Ahm, excuse me, why didn't you ask us about what happened to us?” “You’re badly injured and your body needed rest,” Jennie answered calmly. “Rest, for now, we’ll talk about it tomorrow. You’re safe here.” As the four hunters rested on their beds, Jennie went out of their ward and went to Dr. Argent’s office to talk about them. Inside the office, Dr. Argent was already waiting for her alongside his wife and the gamma of the pack, Catalina. “Lady Jennie.” Catalina respectfully saluted her as soon as she entered the doctor’s office. “Cat.” She greeted back before talking about the sudden case around the four hunters in their care. “Let’s proceed on discussing about them.” “I know that our nurse already briefed you about their status, right?” Dr. Argent asked first which Jennie nodded in response before proceeding. “Alright, the amount of silver in their body came from the toxin from their fallen guild. It was only triggered when we started applying another silver on their wounds to prevent infection. So, we had to stop and do manual healing that’s why we haven’t slept well since last night.” “Did they inhale it or be injected with it?” she wondered how they got it. “All of the silver that I found in my examination of their bodies, all of it was in the lungs, so I think they inhaled it due to their burning guild.” Dr. Argent answered what he found out. “I see…but what do you mean their guild had fallen?” Jennie wondered even though she already knew what happened in her dreams. “That’s why I am here to assist my husband, Lady Jennie,” Catalina informed her about what happened last night. “My section found them almost dying on our border and the four of them were mumbling about a betrayal.” “And you found out who?” she wondered. “Sadly, no, my lady.” Catalina sighed. “But their guild was indeed had fallen.” “Now, I understand why he wanted me to check around here.” She muttered but was clear enough for them to hear it before asking them. “What else did my father know about it?” “Not much of any detail yet, Lady Jennie. We only knew that they were from the fallen hunter guild not far from our border and the alpha seek for tighter security since fallen rogues or spies might end up hiding here.” Catalina answered before adding something. “That’s why he assigned me and my troops to stand guard around the hospital until things calm down.” “That’s a good thought. Here, apply this to their wounds every after three hours.” Jennie handed a jar of herbal ointment that she had been making before giving Dr. Argent an instruction. “When they started healing, do it at eight o’clock and in those intervals, you can rest. But give me their medical details that you can find, so I could adjust their healing med for their open wounds.” “Understood, my lady.” Dr. Argent smiled while nodding. “Alright, I’ll be going now.” She got up from her seat before leaving them. “I’ll drop by later for an update and to check on them since I’ve got the feeling they won’t be speaking directly to my father about what happened to them.” “I agreed, he’s an alpha of this pack.” Catalina slightly chuckled since she knew how short-tempered their alpha was on handling that kind of issue around their pack. After doing her remaining rounds around the hospital, Jennie headed to the kitchen to get plenty of ingredients to stock in her cabin which she was not sure if it was enough for a month. When she filled two boxes with everything she thought she needed, she teleported to her cabin without realizing that her siblings saw her and found it odd. “What are you doing sneaking food like that?” Mikyle teasingly asked her sister. Jennie wasn’t surprised when they asked her instead she just simply answered them. “I’ll be staying for a while to the cabin, why?” “Hm, nothing but your action kinda odd,” Welhima answered while watching her sister carefully. “If that was the case, then what you’re thinking about the way I move all of a sudden?” she wondered calmly as she faced them. “You’re hiding something,” Welhima answered. “Then?” she still asked. “Aren’t you going to tell us?” Mikyle curiously asked. Jennie sighed but she told them what she could only say to them for now.“Not for now. I’ll tell you when I need help. But for now, keep it low and natural.” “If this thing you’re hiding is not…” Welhima was about to warn her sister but Jennie cut her off. “Don’t finish it, Sissy. I might hate Dad for forcing me to marry someone but I don’t hate the rest of it. I love this pack as my home and I’ll do everything in my power to keep everyone safe even if my life is the cost of doing that.” She sternly told her siblings and they knew that whenever she was serious, she’d do it. “Jennie…” they worried due to the words she told them. Jennie smiled and hoped that they wouldn’t say anything to anyone about her odd gestures. “Just saying. So, please till then, not a word to anyone even to our mother.” “But you know our mother, she had her ways of knowing things around us.” Mikyle slightly chuckled as he reminded Jennie about their mother. “She’s blessed that way,” Welhima added. “Why did I forget that she’s close to the Moon as well?” Jennie chuckled before she snapped her fingertips to open a portal. “Well, take care.” “Same to you since you’re near the border.” Mikyle reminded her. “I will since I’ve got you too, Mikyle.” She winked at them before she passed through the portal that she opened. Meanwhile, as Jennie was preoccupied with her siblings at the mansion, Lemar finally decided to wake up from his deep slumber. He began stretching while yawning but something felt not right when he tried to wash his face. From lazy eyes, it went wide when he was welcomed by furry paws with claws. “WHAT THE f**k!” Lemar shouted but he could only hear some ruffling sound of a dog. “HOLY s**t!” To his surprise to what he noticed to himself, Lemar began moving around in slight panic due to his size was not the ordinary size of any wolf shifter that he knew. He began bumping some things around the space where he was and made a mess there. Lemar stopped moving around, “WHAT THE f**k JUST HAPPENED TO ME?!” and wondered what just happened to him. “Oh, you made a mess.” Jennie flatly reacted as soon as she opened her cabin’s door. Lemar was stunned to see the white-haired lady. “Mate.” Lemar was indeed lost when he saw the white-haired lady’s beauty before him. She was flawless and slim but well-fit body. To him, she was a goddess. As he kept staring at her, he knew that there was something strange pulling him to get closer to the lady. He tried to come closer to her but Lemar looked at himself and again started making a fuss over it. He was jumping and circling causing him to lose his balance again. “THE f**k!” Instead of groaning, Lemar heard him growling in annoyance but what perked his wolfy ears was the sweet giggle that escaped from the white-haired lady. “Beauty…” Jennie Sage found it cute but released a fake cough, “Ahm, sorry about that but calm down.” then she apologized since she saw already that Lemar wasn’t used to being a wolf. “Do tell me, is this your first time shifting into a wolf?” “I’m a what?” Lemar growled lowly as he wondered before looking again at his new form. “Well, obviously, I am…” he released a sigh but sounded like a whine of a dog instead before sadly wondering. “But how can she understand my answer if I’m a wolf? I don’t even speak human at all.” “Calm down, Lemar.” Jennie snapped him from talking too much in his mind before answering. “I can hear them.” Lemar tilted his head to the side making Jennie smile before he answered her question. “No, since this never happened before. I’m a certified hunter.” Jennie nodded in understanding before he asked again. “What’s your name and how did you know my name?” “Ah, I’m Jennie Sage Groban and your wolf told me who are you.” She honestly answered as she put the floating boxes in the kitchen with her magic. “You’re a witch.” Lemar noticed. “Is that obvious?” she chuckled over the obvious. Lemar wondered as he carefully followed her to the kitchen even though he was still not used to being a wolf. “Since you’re a witch, how did I turn into a wolf and can I turn back on being a hunter?” He was still stumbling over having four paws rather than two. “First of all, there’s nobody like you.” Jennie corrected him as she put the ingredients in the fridge while some were on the cabinets. “What do you mean?” he wondered. “You’re a full pledge human hunter, right?” Jennie asked and Lemar’s wolf head nodded. “Then you received a star elite mark, remember? But you had a different mark than the other star elite hunter had.” “How did you know them?” he got curious when he heard that. “I’m a witch…” she winked at him and Lemar blushed. “...and since your mark is different, it means that the moon had chosen you.” “Chosen me to do what?” he wondered about it. “I don’t know.” she shrugged her shoulders and prepared something to cook. “I may be a witch, but not a goddess to know what’s the Moon intention was,” she said while Lemar’s gaze fixed only on her. “But are you feeling different from what you used to be other than being able to shift to a wolf?” “I’m feeling a pull and I can’t be away from you,” Lemar bluntly answered what he felt at the moment, especially around her. “Do you know about wolves having mates?” Jennie asked as she stopped moving around the kitchen and sternly looked at him. “I heard of them,” Lemar answered until it hit him. “Wait, a minute, are you telling me that we’re…you know…mates?” Jennie touched Lemar’s head which sent a sweet sensation over throughout his body causing him to purr. “That’s the feeling of the mate bond that has already awakened.”
