~ Madeline ~ The first thing I felt was pain. A steady pounding beat behind my eyelids, an inescapable throbbing that pulled me slowly to awareness. There was a burning thirst that made my throat ache and my lips felt dry and chapped. My body felt sore and wobbly, I tried to moved but pain streaked from my hip up my back and I groaned with the exertion. “Maddie?” A worried voice came to me through the fog and I tried to lick my lips, feeling the rough texture across my tongue. I tried to open my eyes but they pulled like my lashes were crusted together it took too much effort to lift a hand and rub my eyes, the gritty texture like sand against my skin. “Is she ok?
