Chapter 17

Trent

  I feel Luke rush up to me before he slows down to a normal walk he answers everyone’s question that we are all internally asking. "That's because she's the light and I'm the dark." And he lights up with black fire all over his skin. The site was amazing to see and when he walks next to Inara their flames start to meld together in the middle to make a light smokey grey effect happen but you could still see it was a grey fire. 

  He reaches his hand out for Inara to take. I can see them smiling at each other. She takes his hand and the grey becomes one of a fire that's been let run wild. The effects of the power it holds makes me take two steps back and shift into human form. My wolf keeps smiling and telling me how wonderful our mate is and I can't help the smile on my face that is slowly creeping up while thinking the same thing. 

“Now run.” Both Luke and Inara growl at the attackers while giving them an evil smirk.

  The attackers take off running not even looking back. Some were screaming they were sorry while others just tucked tail and ran as fast as they could. 

  I feel the burning feeling of the fire from Inara and Luke become more intense yet it wasn't burning me. I felt the heat but it was washing over me as if wrapping me in a huge warm blanket. I look over at the four people on the ground and see they also feel it. They slowly start to move and that's when I noticed their wounds are healing at an incredible rate. 

  I look down at myself as I feel something brush against me and see a bright light fire dancing around my chest down to my knees. It was like it was hiding me from others, like a second skin that was snug but not quite touching me, it was just forming around me hovering just above my skin. I look up at Inara who already has her eyes on me. I smile at her knowing she's doing this and she smiles back before turning her head back to where the fleeing bodies ran. 

"You ready?" I hear Luke as Inara and she nods her head. The grey smokey fire starts to build between them. "Let them burn." Luke growls with pure hatred. 

  The grey shoots out from the middle of them heading to where the running bodies are and then it splits off in all directions in balls of grey fire. Each ball has a side of the light fire and a side with black fire dancing along the edges giving it a halo effect. Once the grey fireballs are no longer in sight Inara falls to the ground exhausted. Thankfully, Luke grabbed her before her head hit the ground and pulled her into his arms. I quickly make my way to her and pull her into my arm, cradling her like a baby. 

  The corner of my eyes sees movement coming to us and my head snaps up to see the four people who were being attacked walking towards us. I let out a warning growl at them causing them to stop and look at me. The two women smile and bow while showing their necks in submission while the two men keep their eyes on Luke for a few seconds before they bow to him. 

  I look at Luke who is blinking as if he has seen something he can't comprehend. One of the ladies speaks up after a moment of silence. 

"May we take a look at her please." She is not looking at me but at Inara. I growl and pull Inara into me more. "I promise I won't hurt her. She has used a lot of energy and if she doesn't get some back it will hurt her." I look down at my beautiful mate to see what she thinks. She nods and smiles at me. I look at the ladies and nod to them letting go of Inara just a little but keeping my guard up. I don’t know these people and I won’t be trusting them easily around my mate.

  I watch their every move and they place their hands on her. Two hands on her face, one from each of them, a hand on her stomach, and another on her arm. They both light up and I feel Inara’s skin starting to warm up. When I look at Inara’s face she has her eyes closed and a smile on. She seems to be enjoying the feeling which calms me down a little knowing she's not in any pain. As soon as the light goes away I hear Luke clear his throat. 

"So I wasn't expecting this." He was clearly still shocked. 

"Expecting what?" I asked him. 

"It looks like I have two protectors here now and it looks like Inara has two more. Two with a very unique gift it looks like." I can’t help but look at him with a confused face but he is looking at the two girls who were now smiling and sitting next to Inara like this was all normal to them.

“Hi, I am Amanda and this is my twin sister Shannon. Those two twin dudes are Kevin and Zack.” One of the girls speaks up while pointing at everyone and smiling. 

“Do you mind telling us what happened here while we walk back to the house?” I ask.

“Oh! Sure!” The other girl says with so much enthusiasm that it makes everyone but her sister jump. Her sister just smiles while shaking her head and giving a small chuckle. “My sister and I were on our way to meet the one we are to protect, for some reason it was hard to find them though. We couldn’t tell if it was a girl or boy but we guessed girl and were excited about having this honor. Anyway, while trying to follow our feelings we ran into those two shithead twins. We figured out we were going to the same place and here we are after a lot of fighting between us we are with the ones we are to keep safe.” She says with the biggest smile on her face.

“I meant what happened with the fighting, not the getting here.” I say while looking at her. Her eyes go wide and she does an ‘oh’ face. Inara lets out a small chuckle in my arms making my head drop to look at her. She has a smile on and is shaking her head, I can tell she likes that girl already.

“We were at the border waiting for your patrol to come so we could ask to meet the Alpha of the pack but we felt that something was wrong and rushed to figure it out. We found a bunch of unwanted guests on the land and when we asked who they were and why they were there they told us to move along and forget they saw us or they would kill us. We were about to move back to the border when we heard one of them talk about wanting to kill the Alpha’s mate instead of bringing her to their master. That’s when our powers kicked up and we knew they were up to no good.” One of the male twins spoke up and the other male two jumped in.

“We went back in front of them and told them to leave but they attacked us saying we were stupid and shouldn’t have gotten in the middle of their master’s plan. After a few minutes of fighting, we started to feel like our powers were slowly becoming drained and then her highness came in and started to help us out, and then you came.”
