We decided to go back to the pack house when we were done at Sallie's. When we got there Marian was waiting for me, I guess it's time to train.
"Did you have fun?"
"I did, and I made some new friends. Including this handsome young man. Marian, this is Leo. Leo, this is my friend Marian."
Leo walks over to her and holds out his hand, "It's a pleasure to meet you ma'am." He's melting me heart.
Marian smiles and shakes his hand, "The pleasure is all mine, young man." Leo looks so proud.
"Leo, where have you been. I told you to stay close!." A woman comes rushing over and hugs Leo.
"Mama, I'm okay. I was with Luna." The woman quickly turns around and tries to smooth out her hair. "Luna, this is my mom."
I move closer to the boy's mother. "I'm so sorry, it's my fault. I met him in the garden and then Suzanne and I took him to the café for lemonade." Ugh, I know better. I should have checked with his mother!
"Luna, thank you for looking after him. I only just realized that he wasn't playing with the other kids anymore." She pauses and breathes deep, then smiles. "It's nice to meet you Luna, I'm Marigold; and of course, you've already met Leo."
"Mama, I had such a good time with Luna. Can we do it again? Please?" He comes back over to me and hugs me.
"With your mother's permission, of course we can. You can come find me anytime you wish." I hugged him back and smiled at Marigold. She had started crying so I went over and hugged her. Marian, Suzanne, and Leo walked several paces away to give us a moment.
She whispered, "Thank you. Thank you for including my son."
I had no idea why I wouldn't, "Of course. He's a wonderful boy, you are doing a great job with him."
Just then a man walked up to us. Leo hurried over to his mother and stood in front of her, as if protecting her. I turn and keep myself between the man and Marigold and Leo. He looked disgusted with the little family. "Ma'am, you shouldn't be around these outcasts. I haven't seen you around so I assume you don't know what her mate did to us."
Who does he think he is, who cares what her mate did. Marigold and Leo were kind and sweet. I lifted my chin and took a breath. He is getting on my nerves. "I think I can discern between people I want to be around and those I don't." I c**k my head.
He got angrier with my words and began yelling profanity and overall just being ugly to the three of us. Marian and Suzanne had started coming closer when the yelling started. It didn't take long for him to push me past my limit for being kind.
It took me a minute to realize that there was now a protective energy type barrier around Marigold and Leo. I didn't know Marian could do that. The man just kept yelling and we were attracting attention of others around us. Even people from inside the pack house started coming out.
"They should have died with her mate!" That was it! I walked over to him, pulled my arm back, and decked him. What surprised me was that the man went flying. I know I didn't have that kind of strength. For now I just ignore it all and walk over to Leo and Marigold, the barrier dropped and they came over to hug me.
"What's going on here?" Haze had come to handle the situation. When he sees me he comes over to me, but pauses when he sees who I'm with.
The crowd starts talking at once, but one person steps forward. I hadn't met him yet either. "Alpha, Talan was talking to these three and she punched Talan." The man pointed at me to indicate I was the perpetrator here.
Haze turned to me, "Is that true?"
I'm still angry, but having Haze close is taking the edge. I look at him for a minute and then the man who came forward. "Sir, how much of the conversation did you hear exactly? For that matter, how many here heard what...Talan...was saying? You were all standing here before I punched him. Obviously something made you come investigate." I feel the steel in my gaze as I look at everyone who showed up to watch.
A young woman came forward, she couldn't have been any older than my brother. "He was yelling and saying nasty things about the Bull family. Right before the lady hit Talan, he said that the whole family should have died." I could tell she was nervous, but confident.
I smile to her, "Thank you, it is often hard to speak the truth when others do not. Your family should be proud they raised a tough daughter." She bowed her head and smiled shyly.
An old woman comes forward, "That's not all he had to say either, he disrespected the Luna!" She bows her head to me and I do the same. When they all hear that I'm the Luna, they start talking loudly amongst themselves.
Haze roars, like actually roars! It scared me and I jumped a little. Marian came over to me and put an arm around me. Haze sauntered over to a still passed out Talan. "Guards, take him to a cell!" Immediately, three guards rush over and do as ordered. "If anyone else disrespects my Luna, they will be punished severely!" He looks so angry.
"Young one, he needs your touch to calm down." She nudges me over to Haze and I walk over to him. When he feels my touch, automatically he pulls me into a hug.
"Everyone, meet your Luna! I will officially introduce her this evening at dinner." Everyone begins to disperse, but a few stayed behind to greet me.
Leo ran over to me and I caught him in my arms, he was crying. "Thank you for protecting us. Nobody has done that since daddy died."
I had tears running down my cheeks too. Marigold came over to and we hugged each other. "I will always protect you." I put Leo back down and they went made their way back home. I watched them for a moment and then turned to the ladies who spoke up for me earlier. "Thank you both so much. I'm Helen."
I hugged them both and instantly fell in love with Lilly, the young woman. She's precious, but has a backbone made of titanium. The old woman, Daisy, turns out to be Lilly's grandmother. We were still talking when Marian comes over. "Young one, you should rest. You spent a lot of energy today."
We say goodbye and I move towards the pack house, but one of my legs gave out and I crumbled to the ground. "Helen!" Haze, Marian, and Suzanne yell at the same time. Jeez, they are really loud.
"I'm fine, my leg just gave out." I tried to comfort them, I just needed a moment.
"We're going to see Doctor Sam." Haze said and his tone made it clear that I couldn't talk him out of it. He picks me and we go to the hospital.
Again Stacy was waiting for us and brought me into the same room as before. She looked worry, "Stacy, I'm fine." She rolls her eyes at me, but gives me a small smile.
While she takes my vitals, Doc Sam comes rushing in. "What happened?"
"My leg gave out while walking and they decided you needed to check me out." I huffed a little and crossed my arms. This was so not necessary.
"Young one, you know that isn't all of it." When I stay quiet, she fills him in on the incident in front of the pack house. "She used a lot of energy." Although I see she left out the part about the man I pushed flying twenty feet way when I hit him. I glanced over and she shakes her head for me to stay quiet.
"Young lady, you were supposed to take it easy today." He laughs a little as he checks me over. My eyes close a few times, but every time someone speaks they open again. "She's fine, just a bit warn out. I suggest you let her rest here and after a nap take her back home." Everyone nods. Marian gets comfortable in a chair and Haze lays on the bed with me. I fall asleep thinking about how Haze decreased my discomfort when he laid down with me.
When I wake up again, it's just Marian in the room with me. "Haze had to get back to work, I told him I would stay with you." She pulls her chair closer to me.
"Marian, what was that earlier? I never should have been able to punch that guy so hard, my hand didn't even break from the impact. That barrier you made over Marigold and Leo was really cool, I didn't know angels could do that."
She stays quiet for a minute, looking and me a little confused. "Young one, angels can't make barriers. You made that when you felt them being threatened. Your gift must also allow you to protect others with barriers and give you supernatural strength when you need it. We will experiment more with those later. I have a feeling the only reason you were able to do either of those things is because of how close your birthday is. You were also feeling threatened and angry, those must be your main triggers."
I take in the information, it's going to take a while to understand all this. "So I take it, we're not training today?"
Marian laughs a little, "No, I think you've had enough for one day. It's about dinner time anyways. You slept for several hours."
"Do you think it'll always be this way?"
"I hope not, I hope that it'll get easier for you."
Marian helps my with my shoes and then picks me up and carries me to dinner. Haze is there already and he takes me from Marian. The room seems a bit more crowded than I remember, they must be here to see the new Luna.
Haze picks me up and helps me stand, within seconds the room goes quiet. "Some of you have already met her, but I would like to introduce you to my mate, your Luna!" Everyone claps and there are some whistles, it all makes me smile.
When the noise dies down I speak, "Thank you for your warm welcome, I will do my best to be the Luna y'all need. If there is anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to come to me." Again there is clapping and whistling. Several people come up and introduce themselves, by the time I had met everyone that came over dinner was over.
I saw Jerry walk over to us with a basket. "Luna, you did not get to eat. I packed you some dinner and extra for alpha."
I give him a hug, "Thank you, that was so thoughtful!" I heard a growl and turned just in time to see Haze pull me away from Jerry. "Um, why are you growling?"
"I don't like you touching other men." He put his face into my neck, from behind.
"But it was just a thank you hug."
Jerry just smiled, "Luna, male wolves are known to be extra possessive, but alpha wolves are ten times as more possessive. Have a good evening."
I lifted my chin to him in acknowledgment and twister around so I could hug my mate. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was wrong."
"You did nothing wrong, but in the future if you could limit touching other men that would be helpful." His voice was a bit muffled because his face was in my neck.
I smiled into his neck and kissed him there, "I promise."
We go upstairs and have a picnic in the living room and watch a movie together.
