The breeze couldn't be any gentler as it whipped her hair softly.
Gabriela took a deep breath and glanced swiftly at her new surroundings for the umpteenth time.
She was still awed by the whole visionary. It was like a green world suddenly different from what she was used to.
The land used was quite vast. She wouldn't believe someone like Nicholas would live in a place as serene as this, she thought back to yesterday's bickering between them, her annoyance reappearing.
Luckily with the help of GPS she found her way to the hospital, using an easy route, though it was farther than her house to the hospital, lack of traffic enabled her to get to the hospital faster, she earned an earful from the director, George's presence helped her cool off, he was at least helpful after Nicholas managed to irk her.
He was unreasonable, purposely difficult to relate with. He wanted to annoy her further, bring out the worst in her but she would not fall into his traps.
Colourful birds who lived around created nests atop the trees, their presence distracted her for a moment erasing her Nicholas infiltrated thoughts. Some were even bold enough to approach her and ate the crumbs of the cheeseburger loitered on the ground.
She came back earlier this morning after her shift ended, had her shower and tried to catch some sleep. After some minutes of trying to sleep, it registered to her her body was unwilling to sleep, the coffee she took earlier at the hospital was working effectively now.
Wanting to use her time productively, she asked Rachel to take her on a mini-tour around the house.
She was a bit surprised at the enormity of the house, it was too big for Nicholas to live alone, it looked like a house that should be filled with family, the laughter of kids echoing through the hallways.
The house had a more wooden outlook, it was a complex duplex, quite old in its design but looks renovated.
To the east behind the house is a pool, she gasped at its size and reminded herself to be careful while around it, her phobia for large bodies of water resurfacing.
She came across a little old creaky door, its lock was open but it seemed restricted, curiosity got the better of her as she tried to open it up, her hand pressing the door backward the hinges sounded rusted as it gave a loud creak, alerting Rachel who moved in front of her and stopped her from opening it any further.
"No Ms Gabby, no one is allowed to go there" Rachel informed.
Gabriela couldn't remove the disappointed look on her face as she mouthed "Oh" expression, her mind wondered why?
What was hidden from the view of the public?
She wanted to go in, and satisfy her curious mind, but the warning from Rachel kept ringing in her head.
Back to her present, the birds surrounding her disappeared once they finished the crumbs on the floor, she tried reading but her interest wasn't in the book.
She was getting tired of reading and was becoming bored for some reason.
It was time to sleep, lack of sleep was causing her brain fogginess.
Heading towards the front door, she was glad Rachel showed her a secret button to press to unlock the door. Now Nicholas won't have the reason to rub it off on her face and humiliate her the way he did last night.
A bit distracted by her thoughts, she bumped her head into something hard and stumbled black dots blinding her vision.
Nicholas rubbed his head at the impact hissing softly
The pain he felt reduced to a dull throb, he threw his gaze to where Gabriela lay on the ground struggling to get up.
"Are you blind?" his brusque tone caught her by surprise, she doesn't know how to respond to that as the pain she felt on her lower ankle was excruciating.
"I am sorry, did not see you there." She apologized, the pain caught her attention once more and she gazed down to her feet.
The side of her ankle looked badly cut by a sharp stone, it bled profusely. She needed to treat that, she moved past him into the house.
Nicholas noticed Gabriela limping, was she hurt by the fall?
His heart tightened at the fact he yelled at her and she apologized, he felt bad.
He looked down and saw the trail of blood following her steps.
Sh*t, she injured herself too, did he hit her that hard?
He quickly followed her inside and met her instructing Rachel, who looked like she would faint at the sight of blood oozing out.
"Rachel can you bring the first aid box to me?" she requested, she looked calm amid her pain.
She was a doctor after all, she dealt with this kind of thing everyday.
"Yes, Mrs Gabriela, I would get it."
"I need to stop the bleeding," she observed it for a second, before getting up her eyes meeting with his.
He averted his gaze, the guilt eating him up, he should have been more careful and watched where he walked.
She would deal with the situation, he thought deciding to go up to his room.
Nicholas heard a knock on his door, he discarded his jacket dropping it on his bed and opened the door.
He met his housekeeper's face, Rachel and gazed at her warily wondering what she was here for.
She stuttered a few words," Sir Nicholas I would like to lend your First aid box?" She requested lowering her gaze.
"What of the one at the medicines cabinet downstairs."
"The supplies are exhausted."
He doesn't want to feel sorry for her but he was sorry, that was the reality, a feeling he doesn't resonate well with.
His conscience was not helping, he could not believe the strings of words that flew out from his mouth.
"You can go Rachel" he dismissed.
"But sir the..." she attempted to protest.
"I will attend to it."
"Okay," she muttered leaving.
He went into his bathroom cabinet and collected the first aid box.
