Before Elina declined, Samuel Adler said: ’Okay. Let’s go, don’t just stand there.’ He then turned around and walked out of the house. Elina said goodbye to Mrs. Adler, then she rushed to the gate. Samuel Adler had already sat in the car, waiting for her. Before Elina could fasten her seat belt, Samuel Adler pressed the gas and drove really fast. And when the house disappeared in the rear window, Samuel Adler pressed the break real hard. When they arrived Elina’s house, Samuel slowly turned to Elina, and was staring at her like a beast. ‘Elina Bernard, I warn you! Don’t you ever try to play your dirty tricks on granny! I know who you are, and you won’t stand a chance to become an Adler!’ Elina’s face was pale, she was deeply offended by these words. She bit her lips and said:’ Mr. Adler, I know I did the wrong thing, and there is nothing I could do to undone it. I know we are impossible, and I won’t get in your way.’ Samuel Adler was surprised to hear that, but he was still stone cold:’I hope you remember what you say today. Now, get off the car!’ Elina stood by the road, and she was just heartbroken. She didn’t hold any hope of getting back together with him. But everytime she saw his hateful eyes, she just couldn’t breath. She wanted to stay away from him as far as possible. Elina thought that three years of country life was long enough to get over him, but when she met him. again, she realized that she had never forgotten him. When Elina arrived home, it was late. And she realized that Kate was waiting for her on the couch. ‘Oh, you are back. Have you met Mr. Adler? Did you tell him as I told you so?’ Kate stepped up and she stared at Elina with eagerness. Elina shook her head and said nothing. She then slowly waked toward her bedroom. But Kate Bernard tagged along and kept blabbing. ‘Why, Elina? This is the best opportunity to bring it up! All you need is just ask! Maybe..maybe he will agree to help us.’ Elina closed her eyes, she was pushed to the edge of an outburst. She then turned to her mother and said it with impatience:’You want to bring it up? Go ask him yourself!’ ‘Hey! Don’t you talk to me like that!’ Kate was about to told Elina off, but then she realized that Elina was the only who could talk to Mrs. Adler in this house, so she soften her attitude:’I know this is hard for you. You don’t have to talk to Mr. Adler in person, but just spend more time with Mrs. Adler.’ ‘I don’t think I will be going back to the house of Adler anymore.’ Elina said no, and that pissed Kate Bernard off. ‘What do you mean by that? Why are you doing this to this family! I just want you to say something nice about Bernard in front of the Adlers, that is it! How hard is that?’ Elina snared at her mother, and she yelled back at her: ’Really? Family? You left me in the country for three years alone with granny! And now I am one of the family. You are making me sick!’ If it wasn’t Alice, she wouldn’t even set foot into this place. ‘Okay! Then get out of this house! We feed you, provide you with best education, and that is how you pay back in return with cruelty! You are just an ungrateful child!’ ‘Fine, I am leaving now.’ Elina got back to her room, and started to pack things up. ‘Elina, what is all this about? You are not going anywhere!’ Alice heard the argue from the aile, so she went into Elina’s bedroom. ‘Alice, I can’t stay here any more! This place is crumbling me! You take care of yourself.’ Elina tried not to cry. ‘No! You are not going anywhere!’ Alice grabbed Elina’s suitcase and threw it back on the chair. She then hug Elina so tight:’I can’t do this without you, Elina! Please don’t walk up on me like that.’ Elina finally broke down and cried. Alice sat Elina on the bed, and she yelled at Kate Bernard:’Mom! This is enough! You know the thing between Elina and Sam Adler! Don’t make her feel any worse!...You just.. let me handle the business. I will figure something out.’ Elina was about to leave, but Alice insisted on her staying. So Elina stayed for Alice, but she moved out of the house, and she moved into an apartment in town. She was doing this for her sister Alice, the only one she cared for in this world. Elina enjoyed the quiet life of living alone in her apartment. She didn’t need to hear the bullshit from Kate Bernard anymore, and she just got to work, came home, went out with Alice for dinner. She loved this life. A few days later, she received a call from Mrs. Adler. The old lady invited her to her seventieth birthday. The old lady was being considerate, telling Elina that it was just a small party for her family and friends gathered around to have some fun. It was nothing big. Elina agreed to show up, but she was worried about it. Though it was going to be a small party, but the whole Adler family would be there, which meant Samuel Adler would also be there. She was not afraid to meet with the rest of the Adlers, but she didn’t have the guts to face Samuel Adler. She kind of regret of saying yes to the old lady. She put herself into a dilemma. Mrs. Adler was the few who were nice to her and helped her a lot, the old lady treated Elina like her own granddaughter. However, what she did to Samuel Adler was hard to forgive. If she showed up and be picked on by Samuel Adler again, it would be a nightmare. She used to want to get closer to him, now she just wanted him to disappear in her life. Elina stayed up for the whole night, and decided to go up there early. Gave the old lady a hug and the present, wished her happy birthday, and be done with it. If she left early, no one would have noticed her presence. Elina had made her decision, so she asked for a leave to Alice, so that she could get off work early to pick some gifts for the old lady. Alice heard that Elina was getting a gift for Mrs. Adler’s birthday present, and she decided to take the day off as well to go with Elina. They went to different shops at the mall, and Elina picked a bracelet for Mrs. Adler. Alice checked the price tag, and she hesitated:’Well, I don’t know...this bracelet looks nice, but it might be a little bit...’ Elina knew what Alice meant, it was just a eight thousand worth of bracelet. The Adler was the one of the wealthiest and most powerful family in Ashford, a gift like that was a bit too slumming. However, Elina thought that Mrs. Adler would look nice with this bracelet. She didn’t save much money for the past three years, and eight thousands were the maximum amount she could afford. ‘How about we pick that one, let me pay for you.’ Alice pointed to another bracelet, which cost one twenty thousands. ‘Nah, I will just stick with this one. Pack it up for me, please.’ Elina spoke to the saleswoman. She then turned to Alice:’Don’t get me wrong, Alice. I appreciate you doing this for me. But Doris..Mrs.Adler, she had everything in the world. I just want to give her something that can show my gratitude.’ While they were about to walk out of the jewelry store, they met Rania Layne.
