Unexpected Werewolf

Amara was taken aback when she saw who walked into the meeting room. She had no idea that they were expecting another werewolf. Had she known, she would have made sure Kiara was prepared for the encounter. Kiara was completely unaware of the fact that she was surrounded by werewolves, let alone that she was one herself. Amara wanted to keep it that way, but this new development complicated things. Amara quickly made a mindlink to Marcus to express her disbelief and frustration. "What the hell do you call this?" she asked. "Why on earth are you bringing in another wolf, Marcus? You do know how much of a high risk this is?" Marcus seemed uneasy as he responded, "I had no choice, Amara. Cooper hasn't reported back since he went out on patrol for rogues, and we need someone with his influence to sign this deal off." Amara felt uneasy hearing about Cooper's lack of appearance, but she knew she had to stay focused on the situation at hand. When she looked back at Kiara, she noticed something that made her even more aware of the gravity of the situation: Kiara was interacting with the surprise guest in a way that suggested they were fated mates. For werewolves, a fated mate is like winning the lottery while being addicted to drugs. It's the universe's way of saying, "This is your person, your soul, your extension, your everything." It's the strongest invisible pull that exists, and for werewolves, it's like watching two love-sick puppies forever doting on each other. But what was causing Amara distress wasn't just that Kiara had found her fated mate. It was that she and her mother Grace had spent the last seventeen years protecting Kiara since their pack was destroyed by the Rogue King. Grace and Amara belonged to the Lotus Pack, which was run by their Alpha Conley and Luna Athena. They were a force to be reckoned with, as they had the biggest territory due to the size of their pack and the power they possessed. Luna Athena's alpha blood made her stronger than most Lunas, and being fated to another Alpha made them even more powerful once they mated. However, having the biggest pack within the Jaded Meadows also made the Rogue King jealous, which grew his greed and his need to have power over everything. Alpha Conley and Luna Athena were well aware of how the Rogue King thought and acted, and they were able to devise a plan with their trusted Beta Grace to save Amara and Kiara. Luckily, when the Rogue King attacked, Grace was able to successfully escape his grip and make her way to safety in Visceria. There, she gave up her life as a werewolf and embraced a human identity to protect herself, Amara, and Kiara. Through contacts she had, she was able to falsify documents that portrayed her as having adopted both Amara and Kiara from a local adoption agency. Grace did her best to nurture Kiara into the leader she knew she might have to become. Fortunately, other pack members who survived the King's attack came to her aid and pledged their allegiance to her and their future Luna. Those were the men standing in the room with Amara and Kiara. Luckily, Grace had also sought out a mage to help mask Kiara's true identity. The mage was able to disguise Kiara as just a regular human by making her wolf dormant. She pointed out that if Grace hadn't found her within a year's time, it would have been too late, as most young adults meet their wolf at the age of thirteen and shift for the first time. Amara noticed that the mage's magic was still effectively working, as Kiara had no reaction to the mate bond whatsoever. However, this caused the unexpected guest to notice, and Amara watched as his facial expressions went from confusion to being intrigued. For now, he will come to the conclusion that Kiara is human, which gives them some time. "Marcus, Angus, and Todd, we are going to have to move our plans forward. This little mishap is going to put all of us, especially Kiara, at high risk. For now, go along with the meeting like everything is fine to avoid any suspicion," Amara said through the mindlink. They all agreed, and Amara knew she needed to update her mother as well. "Ma, something urgent has come up. I've organized a lunch for Kiara, and I'm going to need you to meet us there, please. Kiara is going to need us more than ever now." Grace replied instantly, "Goodness gracious, darling, what happened?" Amara made it short and quick, as Kiara was about to start the presentation. "I don't have time for questions, just trust me on this, please." With that, she returned her focus to support Kiara through her business pitch. A room full of wolves and secrets, what could go wrong?
