Chapter one
Selene’s POV Loneliness and boredom are the tragedies I have encountered every day, ever since I lost my parents. Living with my uncle Aidan is something I wish I could change. Loneliness and suffering become even more intense as the days pass by. I suffer in silence and cry out, but nobody listens to me. The only individual I can share my emotions and thoughts with is my childhood friend Freya. There are days when I have felt like taking my own life and leaving this harsh world to join my parents, but I have fought the urge to do so. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of finding a partner one day who will take me away from Aidan's house and free me from all this pain and loneliness. I know that I will start a new life and find peace. The only person I will miss is Freya, who has been comforting me during these hardships and difficult times. Every day, I hope that a mate will come. Days feel like months, and months feel like years. The torture from Aidan feels so long that I am astonished that I still have life in me. No one wants to come close to me as a friend apart from Freya. Aidan takes me to his friend's house Elia, who is organizing a party where they will be wining and dining. He instructs me to serve all the guests and clean Elia's house. As I step into the hall, I see that there are already guests present. There are about five different packs of wolves, including our pack. They and our Alpha are huddled together, holding their wine glasses close to their chests and laughing at their jokes. Elia instructs me to bring a bottle of wine and serve anyone whose glass is empty. I walk towards them, holding the wine bottle and two glass cups. As I walk, my hands shake because I have been working all day without food. Also, the presence of everyone gathered there made me even more nervous, as I have never attended any gathering like this since I lost my parents. I am terrified, and suddenly, I trip and the wine bottle falls to the ground, splashing its contents on one of the guests named Felix. As soon as that happens, I look at him and see his furious gaze, which sends shivers down my spine. I start to shiver as I apologize repeatedly. I can feel my heart beating quickly as if it wants to explode in my chest. I quickly bend down in fear and tried to pick up the broken pieces of the bottle. My hands continue to shake as I sweat and pant intensely. Suddenly, while still cleaning up the broken glass, I feel a shadow towering over me. I look up and discover that it's Aidan, my uncle. He slaps me in the face and kicks me to the ground. I groan in anguish and begin to weep, but he doesn't stop. He continues to kick me many times in the stomach. I start puking and weeping, but he repeats the action over and over again, all while calling me names and berating me for spilling the pricey wine. As I grieve, I wonder why he hates me so much that he treats me like a slave. And no one comes to my rescue. This is my hell, and I am becoming tired of living in it. I try to rise up, but my strength fails me, forcing me to let out a scream of despair due to the pain flowing through my body. Eventually, I managed to drag myself back home, crawling to my bed without any food or water. The pain from the pounding lingers in every inch of my body, but I know that I have to keep strong. Despite the darkness that surrounds me, hope flickers within my heart. I refuse to let this terrible world break me. Days stretch into weeks, and weeks turn into months, yet my life remains untouched. The bruises on my body vanish, only to be replaced by fresh ones. Aidan's wrath seems never-ending, and I have become nothing more than a punching bag for his frustrations and hatred. But deep down, I know I am stronger than he thinks. One night, while I lie in bed, nursing my wounds, I overhear a conversation between Aidan and his wife Nadia. They converse in quiet whispers, but their words carry a sense of urgency and energy. "Selene does not belong here. She is weak, a liability to our pack," Nadia says. "Don't worry, she will still be gone, it's just for a while," Aidan replies. "We have no patience for weaklings. I have no need for her. It's time we relieve ourselves of her burden," Nadia answers, her voice oozing with scorn. My heart sinks at those words. I attempted to sleep, but then I heard my name shouted. It was really noisy, but I was so engrossed in my fantasy dreams that I didn't notice what was going on outside. I felt at ease there, which could have been because I hadn't yet found a partner to take me away from Aidan and his wife. I don't understand why Freya always wishes she could be the one with Aidan. It might be because Aidan is influential among the pack and is friends with almost all the Alphas in different packs. She doesn't know that Aidan treats me poorly as if I'm not his brother's daughter. "Selena!" I heard my name again, and this time I tried to bring myself back to reality, but it was too late as Nadia reached me first. "Oh no!" I jumped out of bed, soaked with cold water. "You moron!" "You didn't realize it was already morning and you needed to get out of bed," Nadia yelled at the top of her lungs. I trembled from both her ranting and the cold that was entering my healing wounds. "I'm sorry, Ma, I tried to plead. "Shut your mouth," she snapped.
