Chapter 3

Kaury "Are you trying to scare me? Do you think I'm afraid of you? You're just a mere attorney!" The man behind me didn't flinch. I wanted to turn around to see his face, but I forced myself to stay composed in that situation. "Give her back to me! Don't waste my time!" There weren't many people around us, as we were close to the forest. In fact, we were surrounded by many trees. "I'm not trying to scare you. I'm just stating a fact. You're right, I'm just a mere attorney, but I can take you to court. Even if you're the child of someone important. I'm giving you a warning." I suddenly felt his hand on mine, guiding me until we reached his car. Before getting in, I glanced back at Angelo. He was also looking at me, as if to say this wouldn't be our last meeting. I quickly looked away and got into the man's car. I didn't know why I got in; after all, I didn't know him. Once inside, I finally saw his face. And I wasn't wrong! He was the guy from the amusement park last night! No wonder his voice sounded familiar; I heard it last night. He was also one of the reasons why I couldn't sleep peacefully! I didn't expect to see him again, and I wanted to ask where we were going since he started the car, but I chose to stay quiet. I didn't know how to start a conversation with him either. I just looked out the window when he suddenly stopped in front of a*****e. When he returned, he had an ice cube. I watched as he grabbed a cloth from the back of his car and placed the ice cube he bought in it, then handed it to me. "You're blushing," he said gently, I am stunned. I quietly accepted it and slowly dabbed my cheek, which still stung. "Thank you. I thought you were going to take me back to him, but you didn't, so thank you so much! If you hadn't helped me, he would probably have taken me by now," I said with a faint smile. Tears accompanied my words. "Hey, why are you crying?" I couldn't look at him and bowed my head. "I'm just hurt... because... because I got close to him too, honestly, I was happy with him. I thought he was really nice, I thought he loved me... But he didn't, because he betrayed me. It's hard, no matter how hard I try to be brave, I can't stop it," I said bitterly. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm telling you this." "It's okay. Just tell me what you want to say, but it's better if you stop crying. That jerk doesn't deserve your tears; he doesn't deserve you at all," I took a deep breath and nodded slowly. Damn that jerk, he doesn't deserve my tears. I admit that in our nearly three months together, I was happy with him. Angelo made me feel like he was content with me. So naturally, I believed him; maybe it's unavoidable to be foolish in a relationship, right? Perhaps everyone goes through that. Being foolish in love, and that's what happened to me. I let myself be swayed by what he showed me that I almost forgot to scrutinize his true character. He had plans for the two of us, he even said he would introduce me to his parents. Everything changed when I rejected him. One time, he got drunk and came to my house. Of course, I was worried so I let him stay for a while, he said it was his friend's birthday and they celebrated together, I was annoyed because he didn't tell me beforehand. I chose to take care of him, but that night he became violent towards me. I wasn't ready for that, so I didn't let him touch me. I thought our relationship would return to normal, but no, because he started to change. He was always busy and we rarely saw each other, and he was always angry and annoyed whenever he was with me. I just understood him because I knew he had a lot of work, until I caught him at the Amusement park. That was reason enough for me to break up with him, he cheated on me and that wouldn't change. "Your thoughts are deep. The ice is melting, give it to me." I came back to reality when he took the cloth from my hand. I was going to move away but he wiped my cheek with it. "I-It's okay, I'll do it myself," He didn't answer and continued what he was doing. "Kian... is that your name? Why didn't you tell me last night? You made a fool out of me." He lowered his gaze on me. "I told you we'd meet again," he stopped for a moment to smile at me. "Kaury, Ciara Kaury is my name," I introduced myself to him. "You have a beautiful name, it suits you," Why do I feel like there's something inside my stomach? What am I feeling? It feels like I'm tickled in my stomach! Damn it, maybe this is what I get for eating sweets and junk foods. "Are you from here?" I changed the topic and tried to go along with the weird feeling inside me. "No, I and my friends are on vacation here," I nodded. "Ah, the resort in the next town? It's always full there, but we can't afford to go," We planned to go there several times, but even the main dish we couldn't afford. So in the end, we just bought something from the plaza. "Yes. You're right, but I think I'll be coming here more often," I was stunned again because of his smile. "You'll be coming here more often? Why?" I asked curiously. I was surprised when he came closer to me, I thought he was going to do something but he just adjusted my seatbelt and whispered to me. "Because of someone." **** "Thanks Jirah, if you hadn't told me that they were already hiring, I wouldn't have known," I thanked her while I was busy wiping the tables. And yes! I finally got accepted here at the café where I applied. "What are you talking about? It's okay. You know, my boyfriend's friend is my friend too," I just forced a smile and looked away. After a while, Betty and Kevin arrived. "Kaury!" they shouted at the same time but I acted like I didn't hear them and continued cleaning. I haven't forgotten that! They just left me, so they are not allowed to make me mad. It's been almost two days since it happened, and today is Monday and my first day here at Gred's Café. "Kaury... hey, please pay attention to us!" I faced them and crossed my arms. "This is the menu, ma'am." "Kaury, please... Sorry, don't get mad at us," I didn't say anything even though I really wanted to laugh because of Betty's look. "You know, I was just scared, okay? And another thing, you suddenly disappeared! I came back, but you weren't there." "Yes, Kaury. Why did you suddenly disappear?" I glared at Kevin, who was now hugging Jirah. "Quiet down! You said you were going to get a whip? Why didn't you come back? Fake friend. From now on, I don't have friends!" I pouted. "We're sorry! I promise it won't happen again! If that guy shows up again, I won't even look his way." I fell silent. "Don't follow me, Betty. I'm going to work. Go home," Kevin said. "You know, Kevin, I heard Mang Inasal has a promo tonight. It must be nice to eat there, right?" Betty frowned as she faced Kevin. "Yeah, right! Let's eat there later," I bit my lower lip. Mang Inasal... I want to eat there too. "Sure. Let's eat there later, okay? My treat." He walked away, so I shouted loudly. "Fine! I forgive you guys! But later! I'm coming, your treat! Or anyone's!" After saying that, I entered the pantry to put away the rag I used to wipe the tables. And to avoid them! They obviously did that to get my attention. They're lucky I'm weak when it comes to Mang Inasal. "Thank you, come again," I greeted the customers. I finally perked up knowing my workday was over. "I got this, Ate Mina. You still have plans, right?" Ate Mina is my coworker here. Even though it's my first day, we already understand each other. We became friends quickly. "Are you sure? I need to leave too because my baby has a high fever." I nodded and took the mop from her. After cleaning up, I took off my apron and fixed my hair, which was in a ponytail. I glanced in the mirror for a moment, checking my cheek. The swelling was gone, but I couldn't forget what that beast Angelo did. Okay, Ciara Kaury, focus. Forget him. That was the last time we met, after he dropped me off at home, I never saw him again. Maybe their vacation is over. Okay, erase. I need to leave! Mang Inasal is waiting for me! I hurriedly left and locked up the café. It's small, but it attracts a crowd. I left the key because I'm starting earlier than Ate Mina. Our boss is on vacation too. I walked quietly. There weren't many people because it's late. I sped up but stopped when a car halted right in front of me. This car. "Got you." "A-Angelo," I whispered weakly. "How are you, babe? Miss me?" I quickly turned and ran, hearing his laughter, and when I looked back, he was following me! Trembling uncontrollably, I stumbled, causing him to catch up. "Angelo... what do you want from me!? I thought you'd leave me alone for good!" "Yes, babe? Does it hurt? Stop running, you're making it difficult for me. Let your boyfriend take care of you, okay?" I shook my head. Is he going crazy? We broke up! He's not my boyfriend anymore! Why does he need to follow me!? "Angelo, what do you want now!? I've broken up with you! You should be happy! You can do whatever you want now! You can be with any girl..." I stepped back as he approached. He smiled faintly. "I don't know either. You have a point, but I can't stop thinking about you. I don't want to break up. I'm sorry, but I own you, Kau. From the first day you said yes, I marked you as mine. Always." "You're losing it." "Yes, because of you. Let's start over, okay? I won't deceive you anymore. If you want, we can get married. What do you think?" I squeezed my eyes shut and ran again. "Help! Help!" I kept shouting. "Damn. You're running from me again!" I heard him yell, but I didn't look back. I just kept running, not knowing where I was going, and I knew he was still following me! Please... someone help me... "Run! Just keep running; I'll make sure I catch you!" I was almost out of breath. There was only one person I hoped could help me now, and I don't know why he came to mind. Kian... I hope he comes. "Got you!" "Ahh!" I automatically fell to the pavement from exhaustion. He succeeded in catching up, now gripping my arm tightly. "You're so stubborn! Do you want to get hurt!?" My eyes closed as I saw him raise his hand, ready to slap me. "Ahh f**k!" He let go of me, causing me to open my eyes. "Do you really want me to take you to court?" "Let go!" Angelo struggled to release his grip, but he seemed weaker. "Are you okay?" He turned to me, and I quickly nodded, smiling. "Kian..." He arrived.
