KAURY POINT OF VIEW
"Did you not sleep well last night? Look at your eyes, they're red and your eyebags are glowing! What happened, sis?" Betty greeted me the moment I stepped out of the house, with Kevin beside her.
I let out a deep sigh. And yes! She's right. My eyes are puffy because I cried last night, and I kept thinking about what the guy I talked to said.
Kevin handed me a piece of bread he was holding. I took it listlessly.
"You're zoning out. Did you and Angelo fight?" Kevin asked, puzzled. My expression soured instantly. That guy is so annoying!
Dammit! Damn bastard! It's all his fault! That cheating scumbag had the nerve to deceive me! I knew it! Guys like him are cheaters! They should be erased from the world!
"Babe, the bread can't breathe because of how tightly you're holding it." I snapped back to reality when Betty spoke, feeling sorry for the bread.
I had been squeezing it too hard.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to... Are you okay?" Tears started flowing again as I kissed the bread Kevin had given me.
I felt so awful. How could I involve an innocent piece of bread in this? It didn't do anything wrong. I hope it forgives me for getting caught in my anger.
"You're weird. And give that back to me if you don't want to eat it. And why are you crying?" Kevin tried to snatch the bread from me, but I quickly took it back.
"Don't take it! You gave this to me!" I snapped, wiping the tears from my cheek.
"Gave? Who said I gave it to you? That's a loan!" I slapped him in irritation.
"You're just like your useless friend! If you hadn't introduced him to me, I wouldn't be this brokenhearted! It's all his fault! That jerk has no right to date both me and Duday at the same time! Does he think I'm stupid? Well, I'm not! Just a little... If I ever see that guy again, he's in for it."
Just because he's the mayor's son, he thinks he can cheat on me? Sure, he's fair-skinned, but he's not handsome! He's tall, but he has no muscles! He has nothing to boast about! He's not a loss at all.
"Why? Calm down, you look like you're about to go to war. What really happened? Did you two fight?" Betty held my arm, and I nodded slowly. That bastard. Damn him! Damn it!
"Why did you fight?" Kevin chimed in again.
"We didn't just fight; we're breaking up! Cross my heart! Cross my fingers!" I pocketed the bread and straightened my clothes. I realized I had stepped out in just pajamas and a tank top.
"What!? Why? Ciara Kaury Sullivan, get your life together! Don't make hasty decisions! You know Angelo is the mayor's son, right? Life will be good! If you two get married, your life will be heaven!" I shook my head. I can't imagine marrying that damn bastard. A beast belongs with other beasts!
I pushed her hand away. "No, Betty. Our relationship has already brought chaos into my life! Imagine if I married that beast? Never! He's a cheater! Screw him!"
"What do you mean, cheater?" Kevin asked. I glared at him.
"You! You set me up with him, and he's a cheater! Did you know that last night I saw him at the amusement park? He told me he was busy and couldn't be with me! But that jerk was with Duday! And he lied to me!" I grabbed his hair tightly, almost pulling it out.
"Wait! Why me? Ow, that hurts! Not there, it hurts—Ow!" I let go of his hair in frustration.
"This is so annoying." I paused when I saw Betty standing there, not reacting. "Hey, Betty, why are you zoning out?" She looked at me and took both of my hands.
"Grab a machete, Kau." She commanded, her tone serious, which made me frown. A machete? "Hurry, just listen to me, get the sharpest one we have."
"What do you need a machete for?" She pointed in a direction, and when I looked, my anger flared up again as I saw Angelo’s car approaching our spot. The nerve! I quickly ran inside the house and grabbed a machete. "Am I supposed to confront him?"
"No! I will. Let’s see what this guy can handle. He cheated on you, right?" I nodded. "Well, he’ll get a taste of Betty’s wrath. He messed with the wrong person! Forget what I said! Cheaters like him deserve to be buried alive! Let’s reduce the pests in society!" I nodded in agreement.
Kevin seemed like he wanted to intervene, but I beat him to it.
"Leave her alone! Don't defend your snake of a friend!" I shouted.
"Who said I was defending him? i***t! I'm just getting a whip from our store!" I quickly moved away from him and smiled.
"You should have said that right away! Fine, go get it!" I waved him off and turned my attention back to Angelo's car, which had now stopped in front of us.
"Prepare yourself, Kaury. Blood will be spilled today!" I nodded and walked toward Angelo.
"Babe, about last night—" I slapped him hard, cutting off his sentence. "What the f**k!? Did you just slap me!?" I laughed softly. "What's so funny, Kaury!?"
"You! You’re hilarious! Really! You're a funny jerk! A cheater! What, did you think I’m stupid? No, you’re the i***t! I saw you last night with Duday, Manong Dudoy’s daughter! Did you think I wouldn’t find out? Well, you're wrong! Because I know! I know! You just didn’t know that I knew!" I took a deep breath before continuing. "What did you come here for, huh? We're done, Angelo! You're a cheater! Forget our three months together, because I will!"
He started to approach me, but Betty stopped him.
"Go ahead, Angelo the cheater, come closer! Do you see this? This machete will slice through your pride, you jerk! Don't touch her! Face me, you ugly liar!"
"Stay out of this, okay? And I'm not scared of your machete! You should be afraid of me! You should pay your mom's debt before you talk to me like that." Angelo's smirk made Betty pause.
"Oh right, Kau. Mom owes his mom money! I forgot, sorry. You know I love you, but I don't want our lives to get messed up." She handed me the machete, and I smiled awkwardly.
"You were so brave a minute ago," I whispered to her.
"Everything changes, Kau. Besides, just slap that jerk repeatedly, and you'll get your revenge. Or if you want, you can confront him with this machete." I frowned and lowered the machete. I value my life too much.
"Just leave, Angelo! There's nothing left to discuss! We're breaking up! Go be with Duday!" I turned to walk away, but he quickly grabbed my arm, pulling me into his chest.
"Stay out of this, Betty. Don't interfere!" His grip on my arm was strong, almost painful. "And you...how dare you slap me? I cheated because it’s your fault. You're too reserved," I struggled to break free, but he was too strong.
"It's my fault!? Who do you think you are!? Let go of me, it hurts!" I shouted.
"Of course, it's your fault! Look, Kaury, you know I've been good to you. But I have needs too! And you can't meet them! You're my girlfriend, it's your responsibility to make me happy and satisfy me. But you're too reserved!" His words made me even angrier.
"You're disgusting! That's the truth! You're just a pervert, that's why you cheated on me—ahh!" I screamed louder as he pulled my hair even harder. "Let go of me!"
"It hurts? Stop being difficult then! It's your fault you're in pain! Fine, you're right, I was with Duday last night...but that doesn't mean I don't want you anymore, Kau. You're my girlfriend, and I will always come back to you. So just forget what happened, okay?" I shook my head.
I regretted ever getting involved with this man. He had seemed so decent at first, like an angel.
He showed us he was polite, and he courted me for nearly two weeks. I should have known better.
But if I had known this would be the outcome, I would have avoided him!
"No, Angelo! I don't want you anymore! We're done!" His grip on my hair tightened even more.
"Is this because of that man?" I frowned. "That man last night, who was he? I clearly heard his voice. You're a cheater too, Kau! You were with another guy! Don't act all innocent!" Why was he bringing that up!?
"Just let me go! Leave!" His expression softened, like the angelic face I used to see.
"I'm sorry...please forgive me? It won't happen again, Kau. It was just a one-night stand with Duday. She just filled the gaps you couldn't. You should actually be grateful I'm still with you; many are vying for my attention, but I chose you. You're lucky to have me; you should know my worth." Lucky!? Yeah, right!
At that moment, I pushed him hard, nearly knocking him off balance, making him let go of me.
"I don't care about you! I will never come back to you, Angelo. You're a cheater, and that's the truth. It's not about your needs, you're just a pervert! You even admitted many are after you! Go to them! Don't ever bother me again! You're a plague!" I turned away from him quickly.
Only now did I notice that Betty was gone. Just a moment ago, she was all brave, but she left me too. Those two are really going to hear it from me!
"You're really fighting me!?"
"Ah! Ouch! Let go of me!" I screamed non-stop as he dragged me towards his car. "Where are you taking me!? Let go of me, I said!"
"I need to teach you a lesson. You're coming with me." No! I didn't want to go with him! I struggled until we reached his car.
"Let go of me—" I started to struggle harder when he slapped me hard across the face.
"I told you to stop, now you're hurt." He grinned.
I was about to close my eyes as he opened the car door, but then I felt a strong force pull me away from Angelo.
"What the hell!? What do you think you're doing!?" Angelo yelled in anger, his face red with rage. I couldn't see who pulled me because of the impact of Angelo's slap.
"Taking her. Why? Can't you see it?" Wait, that voice...it's so familiar.
"Hey, give her back to me. Don't involve yourself in this, return her to me while I'm still being nice."
No...please don't give me back to him. That's what I wanted to say, but I couldn't move my mouth.
"Okay." My eyes widened at the man's words. "On one condition..." Please don't...I don't want to go back to him!
A grin spread across Angelo's face as he looked at me. "Okay, what is it?" I couldn't hold back my tears as they streamed down my face.
"Die first." The man's voice deepened, sending chills down my spine as I slowly opened my eyes.
"What?"
"Die first. I'll give her back, but you need to die first."
"Who are you fooling? Don't you know who I am!? I'm the mayor's son! I can make your life miserable!" Angelo's face turned even redder.
"I don't care. And you? Don't you know me? Let me introduce myself. I'm Kian Harley Krefandez, and I am an attorney. I filmed what happened. If you want, we can settle this in court. I don't care if you're the mayor's son. The fact that you laid a hand on her is already enough to put you in jail. Now, fight me."
