Shounen-ai/Yaoi = Are two related media genres in Japan where there is a relationship between two boys or men. Shounen-ai means boy-love and is the more romantic version of the two. Yaoi is harder to translate as it’s more of an acronym than a real word, but in origin its meaning comes down to s*x stories between two men without much of a plot otherwise. Another term used a lot more these days is BL, or boys love, both in Japan as well as outside of Japan as a way to combine both of these types of stories under a single term. They’re both genres I read and watch a lot, even if some of it is so over the top that it’s kind of silly, but that’s half the fun of it.
