Chapter 26If Nil was watching Charlie, they didn't jump to send someone to pick her up. After Nolan took off, she set out on foot toward home. It made sense, she realized, that the Nil adults wouldn't come running out in the open. Unless it was Halloween, they couldn't exactly wear masks while driving around in broad daylight...which meant that whoever came to get her would have to reveal his or her true identity to her. So much for complete secrecy. Not that Charlie minded a little walking. She did it often enough on nights when she couldn't sleep, walking for miles around town.
