Chapter One
Chapter 1
As I walked through the hallway, the sound of students chatting and lockers clicking filled my ears . This hallway was one of the places I liked the least ,not because of the burgundy walls and silver lockers or the red carpet on the ground or the incredibly massive glass windows . I hated it because it was always crowded and because I couldn't walk by without a pair of eyes following me , students looking from all corners of the room. Some looked at me with pity , some with a mix of confusion and sympathy while some looked at me with pure disgust. I sometimes wondered if having a dove as my beast was the only crime I committed or there was something else. I have already grown used to the stares and have learnt to just ignore them because there was no need borthering myself over people who didn't understand that being different wasn't a crime and it was indeed a great privilege to have the dove as my beast. The dove is a very peaceful, majestic and faithful friend,it has a very good memory too, yet it was always treated like it was worth nothing. As I thought to myself about how unfair that was I heard someone call out my name from behind me. "Serena! Serena!" She shouted as she ran towards me .
Matilda was my best friend and my sister. Our Mother had her exactly 24 hours after me so we considered ourselves twins and we were practically inseparable. As I watched her small frame come to view , I couldn't help but notice that her red tie was a bit crooked and her curly black hair was quite a mess, strands of hair were laying on her almond skin." What's the problem Matilda"I said as I looked towards her. " You forgot your tie, Serena "she said as she pointed towards the collar of my black blazer . It was then that I realised that I had forgotten my tie while leaving in a rush to get to the cafeteria so I can get a sandwich and pink milkshake before they finished. " Thanks Matilda" I stuttered before I collected the tie from her and wore it. After that I searched through my bag for a comb and handed it to Matilda. " My hair is messy , isn't it " she asked in an assured tone, I nodded. " Of course, silly me " she said as she rushed towards the girls restroom to fix her hair . I shook my head and adjusted my tie , typical Matilda .
The smell of baked bread , eggs and bacon tickled my nose as the cafeteria entrance stood just inches away from me , the sound of students chatting and spoons chiming on plates filled my ears . There is nothing better than a good breakfast to start your day , I thought as I entered the cafeteria. The cafeteria was a large room , about the size of a football pitch. To the left of the entrance is the food counter where various foods are displayed and to the right were four rows of seats and tables. Fortunately, the line for the sandwich wasn't so long , Thank goodness. I quickly grabbed a tray and stood in line . The girl before me had a model like figure, long red hair and porcelain skin. I couldn't see her face as she was backing me but due to the purple tie she was wearing i guessed she was from the royalty Division. The school was divided by divisions according to the animal you possessed. There were five divisions and the colour of your tie indicated your division, my tie was white in colour and it indicates that I belong to the sapphire division, we were often referred to as the weakest division because our animals were completely harmless. Red indicates the garnet division, and they are the strongest and fiercest of all divisions, my sister Matilda belonged to this division. Purple indicated the gold Division and they were the most elegant , yellow indicated the onyx division and they were the fastest and teal represented the quartz division and they were the smartest and most cunning of all divisions. Then I realised that the purple tie girl was Arabella, like the Arabella, the bearer of a white tiger and the most respected girl in school. What was she even doing on the line? She has minions who follow her every command and most of the time , they brought her food. While I was stuck in my own head someone bumped into me, I could easily recognise that voice from anywhere. " Get out of the way loser" he said, it was Kane , the all known school bully. I was just about to tell him that he was the one who bumped into me but I didn't have time for his drama this morning. He did cut the line and stood right in front of me, blocking my view of the Arabella. Great , I didn't even try to explain myself, I just waited for my food and walked off .
