Chapter 5

This is the most peaceful morning we've had for a while, no arguments, no quarrels , no fighting, no sabotages, just students being students, at least that's what I thought until everyone suddenly started checking their phones , I checked mine too and I immediately understood the astonished looks on the faces of the students. The picture was as clear as day , it showed Kane breaking one of the school rules , " No boys allowed in the girls dormitory". I could see everyone staring towards Kane' s direction , Kane looked like he wanted the ground to just open up and swallow him , in that brief moment he went from bully to bullied. Kane walked out of the cafeteria face down and accompanying him were his minions who usually followed his every command. I could hear whispers from all directions, students chatting and gossiping about what had just happened, no one knew who did it as it had been sent from an unknown account but I had a good guess of who it could be , "Arabella" . I knew she could be mean and wicked but I didn't think she could go this low , was this how far she was willing to go to ensure she gets the throne? That's too cruel even for someone like her . I was almost starting to pity Kane ,I mean I know he was wicked and a bully but he didn't deserve this, if this gets to the school Authority he will be expelled immediately and and it'll hard for him to find a school that accept him given the fact that he's already in his final year . I scanned around the crowd for Arabella and I found her at the left corner of the cafeteria hiding a slight grin. Then I decided, it was finally time . I stood up with a black pen in one hand and my handkerchief in the other , I walked straight towards the cafeteria entrance and to the hallway . Then I saw it in the distance, the notice board. I rushed over to the notice board, only five names were remaining, the other names have been cancelled, I scanned the remaining five names , Arabella, Hermione, Kane , Mercury and Everett. I was just about to add my name when one of Kane's minions came , shoved past me , scribbled something and left , when he was done I checked the notice board to find that Kane's name had been cancelled. I guess Arabella has succeeded in making another person forfeit the competition, Great. Well I can't complain, in a way she's helping me by taking out the competition. I quickly wrote my name and hurried towards my first class of the day. My first class today happens to be a general class which means that we'll be having a joint class with all the other divisions. Immediately I walked into the main hall , my phone alarm buzzed , I always set alarms for all my classes for the day so , since my alarm just rang it signifies that class just started. It was already too late to start looking for seats so I just sat on the closest empty seat I could find , I tilted my head right to find Everett sitting right beside me . I knew Everett mainly because we were paired up with four other people for a project sometimes ago, we haven't really engaged in conversation after that so I can't say we're friends. Class was shockingly quiet today which bothered me a lot because I'll have to deal with the awkward silence between me and Everett, this was one of the days I wished something will happen, like anything, to distract me from my own mind . " I saw your name on the notice board yesterday , didn't know you are participating? " Everett whispered , " I am participating, are you surprised? " I answered in a hushed tone . " I'm not surprised, I think it is time your clan step up and fight" Everett answered, " I guess so " I said . " You scared? " Everett asked , " of who? Arabella" I asked , he nodded. " Not really, I'm mostly scared of ...., nevermind" I answered, " what? You don't want to tell your opponent your weakness" Everett said , " it's not that " I answered, " then what ? " Everett asked . " Why do you care so much ? Let's focus on class please " I said and looked towards the board, " If you say so ,I was just curious " Everett said . " Sorry for shouting at you like that it's just been a lot of pressure lately, forget it you won't understand " I said , " are you kidding me ,I do understand, you're not the only one with the faith of your entire clan resting on your shoulders. It can be a lot a pressure " Everett answered. " So , I'm guessing you've been practicing right ? I asked , " I've been trying, what about you? " Everett said . " A friend has been training me " I said , " well that's nice , maybe you'll last to the semi finals" Everett said , " I'm going to win, Everett " I said , " dream on Serena . When I become ruler I'll probably appoint you as one of my maids. You'll look ridiculous in a maid uniform" Everett said in a mocking tone , " good luck making that dream come true " I said and turned towards the board. For the next couple of minutes we didn' t say a word to eachother, we just sat there in complete silence . The air didn't fell heavy again, it felt lighter like maybe we've just become friends. After about thirty minutes, the bell rang for end of lesson, I started packing my things into my bag while still sitting at my desk, then Everett stood up and walked towards the door but stopped by the side of my desk , " it was nice speaking to you Serena , catch you later " he said and continued walking towards the door , " see you later , Everett , hopefully in a guard uniform " I said as I stood and hung my bag on my shoulder. " Don't bet on it" Everett said and walked out of the classroom. That was probably the first time I had engaged in a conversation with Everett except from group projects or class activities. It was kind of nice talking to someone outside my friend group and Matilda for a change. Speaking of Matilda, I haven't seen her in a while, I should probably stop by her dorm room later and say hi . I should also start taking training more seriously cause Everett won't fail to rub it in my face if he wins the competition.
