Chapter 66

1102 Words
The members of the Foster family looked down on Jack with disdain. They believed that Jack was only arrogant because he relied on Drake from the Destroy Steele Group. Now that Jack wanted to take back the project and force them to apologize, the Foster family was determined not to agree. Just then, Emily's figure appeared at the top of the stairs. "Don't even think about using me to threaten Jack!" she declared, walking down to stand beside him. Facing the sneering relatives, Emily let out a contemptuous laugh. "We were expelled from your family long ago. Since that's the case, the Foster family's current crisis has nothing to do with us! Stop coming to us to solve your problems!" "Emily, shut up! With so many elders here, who gave you the right to speak?" Hanks, relying on his status as an elder, shouted at Emily. "Even if your family was expelled, as long as your name has 'Foster', you can't ignore the family's plight!" "You shameless bastard!" Emily couldn't help but curse. "You dare speak so rudely to your elders!" Hanks, enraged, raised his hand to slap Emily. But before he could act, a powerful force struck his abdomen, sending him flying across the room. The Foster family members were all stunned, standing in silence, seemingly forgetting that anyone who dared to harm Emily would face Jack's wrath. Jack's icy gaze swept over the group as he said, "Will you leave on your own, or do you need me to make you leave?" Ladyship Foster's face turned dark, and with a heavy thud of her cane, she stormed towards the door. The rest of the Foster family, seeing her leave, could only meekly follow. Frank's face was livid as he pointed at Jack and shouted, "You! You get out! Don't ever come near my daughter again!" Having failed to persuade or threaten Jack, and witnessing him strike his elder brother, Frank felt utterly humiliated. "What are you doing?" Nancy stepped in front of Jack, glaring at Frank angrily. "Where was your courage when we were being punished? You only dare to be harsh with your own family, but you're so weak with others!" "That's... that's different!" Frank, who feared his wife, immediately lost his bravado under her scolding. "How is it different?" Nancy retorted angrily. "Let me tell you, Jack is the son-in-law I'm most satisfied with now. Everything he's doing is for our daughter's good! And you? What have you done for this family besides holding us back?" Embarrassed and unable to retort, Frank fled back to his room. "Jack, don't mind him. I think you handled everything perfectly today," Nancy said. "My side of the family is having a gathering tonight. Why don't you join us?" It was the first time Jack heard Nancy speak favorably of him, and she even invited him to a family gathering. "It's just my grandmother, uncles, and their families on my mother's side," Emily explained. "Sure, I'm free tonight," Jack nodded. "Don't forget your Lincoln Emperor," Nancy added as she headed upstairs. Jack couldn't help but smile wryly. It seemed her change in attitude was entirely due to that car. "Jack, my uncle can be a bit sharp-tongued and tactless. Don't take his words to heart," Emily warned. Jack nodded. As long as they didn't go too far, he wouldn't make a fuss. "Emily, I haven't seen your grandmother's family before. Why is that?" "Because when our Foster family went bankrupt, they cut ties with us. Now that we've recovered, they've reconnected," Emily explained. "I see," Jack mused. It seemed like they were just another bunch of opportunistic relatives. *** As night fell, Jack drove the Lincoln Emperor, bringing Emily and Nancy to the Eastwoods Hotel. "Jack, where are your driver and attendants?" Nancy asked, recalling how Jack had a driver the last time. "I gave them the night off. Since it's a family dinner, it's more appropriate for me to drive," Jack replied calmly. Nancy nodded, not suspecting anything. Emily, however, couldn't help but smirk. She guessed those people were likely hired for the occasion, just like the Lincoln Emperor. After all, how could a fake car come with a real driver and attendants? Soon, they arrived at the Eastwoods Hotel. Emily and Nancy went inside first, while Jack parked the car and headed to a private room called "Butterfly" as per the directions sent by Emily. "Jack, come sit here," Emily called out to him as he entered. The private room was already packed with people. Just as Jack was about to sit down, the woman beside Emily suddenly spoke up, "Can't he sit at a side table? Why squeeze in here? Has he never eaten at a high-end restaurant before?" The atmosphere in the room immediately became tense. "Yuri, there's clearly a seat here," Emily protested, displeased. "That seat is for your brother-in-law. Emily, you were raised in a prominent family. How can you not understand the importance of respecting elders?" Yuri said sharply, her tone harsh. "But..." Emily tried to argue, but a middle-aged man interrupted her. "We're family, so let's not argue as soon as we meet," said the man, who was Emily's uncle, Gabord Ford, and Yuri's father. "Emily, your boyfriend is that guy from the Steele family, the one who was kicked out for trying to r**e his sister-in-law, right?" Gabord asked, looking at Jack. "That was a misunderstanding! Jack was framed, and he's actually..." Emily hurried to explain. "Enough. Let your brother-in-law take the seat. As for your boyfriend, he can either stand or sit at the side table," Gabord said, his words clearly dismissive. Hearing this, both Emily and Nancy's faces showed displeasure. These people were blatantly looking down on them! "It's fine, I'll sit over there," Jack said, not caring whether these people respected him or not, smiling lightly as he spoke. Ignoring Nancy and Emily's dissatisfaction, Gabord continued, "Yuri's boyfriend is outstanding! He's a project manager at a real estate company. He's on his way here now, so let's wait a bit longer." "Hmph, we agreed to start at eight, and it's almost nine now. How much longer are we going to wait?" Emily muttered, clearly unhappy. Yuri overheard and immediately slammed her hand on the table, shouting, "Emily, do you still think you're the third miss of the Foster family?" She sneered, "We just learned that your family has been expelled from the Foster family. You're ordinary now. The fact that we're letting you sit here is out of respect for our ties. If you complain again, I'll throw you out!"
