Arturo and Alexei sat up in bed, smiling at Renaud. Dumas had called her former colleague four days before, being careful not to arouse too much suspicion in his wife, Marlette. It wouldn't do for her to think that Renaud was involved in anything deeply important or remotely sinister. Renaud had so far justified his trips to Switzerland by explaining to Marlette that his expertise in fertility treatment was often called upon by his old mentor and colleague, and that she often required his assistance with her latest experiments. He had told Marlette some, though not all, of the story of the Clinique Sobel, and she understood that he needed to maintain his link with Doctor Dumas.
