I closed the pages of my book, the minute my wolf mentioned Cynthia.
Most times, I accorded the Moon Goddess for giving me a wolf like Leila. She knew just what I needed.
“Leila,” I spoke to her inwardly.
“What b*tch,” she sarcastically replied.
“You’re an angel sent from by the Moon Goddess,” I appraised her.
Ida stared at me, still sitting on her private chair. Her hands held a bottle of manicure oil. My glance still held the frown it had on earlier.
“Well, what child? Are you going to keep glaring at me like some enemy?” she breathed out, as she took care of her nails. I stood up in my tracks, with the closed book in my hands.
“I need to be somewhere, Ida,” I smirked at her, striding towards the door. My hands reached for the knob. I reversed to return her book before going out. The door slammed shut.
I strode through the hallways, with so much confidence written off in my heart. In a way, it seemed like I knew exactly what I needed.
“That Lycan King has to pay for what he did,” I said, to Leila. “If the pack members are too blind to see that, I’ll be dealing with it myself.” I finalized.
As I strode to the weapon unit of my pack, my boots clinked to the floor. The black jacket which ended right at the back of my legs, fanned widely as I took bold steps towards my motive.
A rumbling sound suddenly geared out of the unit. I stood right in my tracks, knowing Cynthia’s personality. She was a feisty one for sure. It was just like her red hair depicted her nature.
“Thought you went missing, Katniss.” she breathed out from where she was positioned. Her voice echoed around the room, due to the inordinate amount of space around.
“Long time Cynthia, now is that any way to greet an old friend?” I retorted, asking her.
As the Beta of the Blood Moon Pack, she was quite strong for an ordinary wolf. She used her speed to her advantage and moved like a shadow most times.
“Quit the crap Kat darling, why exactly are you here to see me?” she spat out. She left the new weapon she was working on, walking towards me. I had a clearer view of the cargo trousers she was wearing as she worked, with some grey top. Some murky pigments from her work were imprinted on it.
“You sure know your way around things, that’s exactly why I like you.” I mischievously said.
“Say it already,”
“I came to make a deal,” I stated.
“I am all ears,” she said, in a code. I understood what that meant instantly.
Blood Moon was a type of pack that had ears everywhere. And sometimes, no one knew if the bad guy could be lurking around.
So, we only shared secrets in a mind link.
That way, absolutely no one would interfere.
“I need you to help me delay the Lycan King from leaving.” I urged, zoning in the mind link.
For the wolves, a mind link was something sacred. Our instincts naturally transported to a sacred white room, as we conversed. Clothed in white garments, it was almost like an illusion, but it wasn’t.
Because whoever you shared the mind link with, could see you in person, in the white room. It was like a channel through which our thoughts were configured.
“What’s the reason for this strange request, love? Why would you be risking your life to delay the Lycan King?” she asked.
“My sister has feelings for him,” I blurted out.
“She loves him and I can’t bear to see her hurting when he eventually leaves for his kingdom.” I lied despicably.
“I see through your lies, child. There’s no soul who doesn’t know of your rocky relationship, so why the act?” she answered me.
“Oh common, be creative Katniss,” Leila said, rolling her eyes at me.
“I’m trying you dim wit, remain calm,” I answered. This was not the first time I had to lie to get what I wanted.
“Whatever, I’ll be telling you the truth.” I breathed out, scoffing.
“I’m attracted to the Lycan King. I’m not the romantic type so I’ll be needing more time to get in tune with my feelings for him.” I lied again, hoping she bought that. “And for that to happen, I’ll be needing him to stay,” I added.
“Good story,” she let out.
“You don’t believe me?”
“Not that, let’s get this straight. I don’t care about why you’re doing this. My interest is what’s in it for me,” she said, with a grin. Her red hair and the white cloth made her appear more like a Salem witch, awaiting trial.
“I deal with deals, child.” she grimaced, adding.
Of course, I knew you do.
I figured that out even before I came here.
I thought.
And I knew her weak point. Thus, I intended to use it to lure her to help me.
“You’ll have Lucien,” I said.
A look of disbelief was imprinted on her face. In anger, she cut off the mind link as we teleported back to the real world.
Lucien was a badass wolf.
Ripped, tattoos all over his muscle build. I could say he was my type of guy. A year ago, Alpha Gryffon sent him to be blessed by the Divinations (resided at the end of the last land Blood Moon Pack owned).
It was sort of a tradition that every male wolf performed. Like a welcome to manhood. But Lycans didn’t partake in it though. Since we were like gods.
“I’m not playing any games here, Katniss. Don’t f*cking promise what you can’t keep.” With a glare, she told me.
Her liking for Lucien was something I still tried to figure out. The problem was her love was unrequited. I certainly couldn’t make him like her.
“I’m real, my old friend. Consider it done, the instant you grant my request.” I piped out, with a wide grin.
I noticed the smile of approval on her side.
…
“Prepare the Royal send-off,” A Gamma announced. King Nick’s entourage all marched out, following him. I stood right in the middle of Kate and Hayden, with Hunter right beside his twin. Dad and Mum gracefully escorted the Lycan King in a polished and shiny regalia.
While Nana Ida was amongst the front VIP seats. She wore a relaxed expression at it all, looking at me like she suspected something.
“Is this your plan? To watch him leave?” Leila seethed.
“A little patience from your side would do,” I answered her.
A guard rushed in that instant, “Alpha Gryffon! Something big just happened!”
“You would dare interrupt the send-off party for the Lycan King? It better be worth it!” Dad replied. “What is it?”
“It's the Fronters…”
“What about it?”
"It’s on fire.”
The pack members let out a gasp. So, did I. Who did this? This was certainly not what I had in mind to happen.
The attention of the Lycan King was instantly drawn from just ahead. His footsteps lurked toward the guards that announced the misfortune that had just occurred.
My gaze swept over the attire he wore today. It was an all-white train suit, that gave me utopian vibes. All clenched around his body muscles, there was an illusion of an angelic aura radiating from him.
It was certainly with the choice of outfit he chose to wear today. His royal stepped forward and halted directly in front of Father, who wore an insecure look.
“Wasn’t wrong either way when I said, this pack has zero technological capabilities. And now, security issues,” he seethed.
“The training room getting burned down? Prepare the chambers, once more.” My heartbeat thudded at those words.
“Seems like my stay would be prolonged until this little issue is fixed,”
