Attraction.
Of course, I was drawn to the Lycan King. In a deathly way though. This was the reason Leila was agitated and wild.
I walked hastily towards them, and the instant my eyes figured out where they were. It was like a predator looking out for his prey. This was something I remember being good at. But the question was, was this Lycan King even better? Was he better at preying than me?
Guess there was only one way to find out, Leila.
My wolf went in tune with me, almost growling out loud. I knew I had to keep her in check. I just knew it. One move from her and we’re both dead.
Myself and Kate, I mean.
I hated her nerves but that didn’t mean I would want her dead.
The dried leaves crunched on the floor with each step towards them. I saw as the four of them, averted their gaze to me. It was like I was interrupting their little moment. Cause these were people all similar. They craved power and wanted more and more of it.
We were nothing alike.
My eyes scanned the men and I wondered which of them was the Lycan King. Whoever it is, should better watch his back. Cause he had a great thing coming. I won’t and ever, will let Ezekiel’s death be in vain.
“Oh, Katniss, you’re here!” With a goody-shoe polite voice, Kate let out with con masking her expression. She had a pure smile no one could have guessed it was. Anyone who heard that voice right now would assume we were the best of friends in the world. No one would even, in fact, perceive that we were the worst of enemies.
It’s simple.
I hated her, she hated me.
Thus, I kept silent, not missing the evil smile she gave away and the evil glint in her eye. I knew what that look meant. She was telling me to stay away from the Lycan King.
And, I was born to piss her.
Ladies and Gentlemen, hang on because today is going to be a great show.
“This is Ryder, the Delta of the Frost Kingdom, and Gray, the Beta of Frost Kingdom.” I shook their hands respectively as she introduced them to me. Kate moved to talk again when the other man came forward. My breath hitched when I noticed his demeanor.
The man who was the Lycan King, raised his hands in the air that minute, stopping Kate from introducing him. My gaze swept over his entire position. As I eyed what he looked like, I couldn’t but notice him.
He had this beastly and dark aura. Something that wasn’t screaming in power but wasn’t at the same time silent.
It was like he was a natural.
As if he didn’t have to combat to get it. Instead, that appearance was just all around him.
It was almost like this creature would be the reason parents warned their children not to play in the woods.
With his face locked with dismissal, his features were rough. But somehow, it was as if they were able to create a beautiful face. My ears waited desperately to hear his voice. This was another lesson I learned when hunting for prey.
Know everything about them.
“I certainly will not condone anyone introducing me. You should know your place, wolf.” he seethed dangerously, to Kate.
“That is like an insult directed at me.” he spat out, adding. Kate, trembling from his anger, immediately bowed her head down, in order not to piss his wolf more.
“I’m truly sorry, Your Highness. Please accept my apologies from the sincerest part of my heart.” she pleaded with a submissive stance. Her palms were locked together, under her jawline, with her thumbs intertwining each other.
Every wolf in our pack had a strong thing for respect. Whenever a wolf submitted in that position, it meant he was truly sorry and the other party took back his aggression.
But this was the Lycan King.
He could snap her neck off and no one would have a say on it.
This was why tension overrode the whole moment. His Beta and Delta didn’t utter a word. Instead, they dutifully stood upright and stiff. I watched beads of sweat roll down Kate’s head in amusement. I folded my hands, with a smirk.
Never knew she could have this sort of reaction to anybody.
She never reacted like that to anything. This was entertaining to watch. I couldn’t possibly have the same reaction, could I? I knew I wasn’t afraid of him in any way.
“Unimpressed,” Leila commented. She was quite stubborn and liked exhibiting dominance.
“Don’t make a scene, Leila. We’ll just have to observe the cards before we commence playing,” I replied to her. For a moment, I noticed the Lycan King directing his eyes towards me. It was something swift so I didn’t get a chance to react to it.
“Nick Xander; I am, the infamous Lycan King of Frost Kingdom,” he directed to me with a gruff look. Who still speaks in that old-fashioned way? Guess the rumors were true afterward. He had lived a thousand years and was used to their primitive way of speaking.
“It’s a pleasure, my King. I am Katniss Gryffon, a warrior of the Blood Moon pack and the last child of Lycan Alpha Gryffon,” I replied, introducing myself.
I gave out the best polite smile I could give to the one who murdered my best friend. But I didn’t stretch my hands to him like Kate did. I was certainly not doing that to my worst enemy. Neither was I bowing down in submission.
It seemed like he didn’t even care. Likewise, did he even notice that? His dark and intimidating gaze drifted from me back to Kate immediately.
“I would be spending a night here and you’ll be warming my bed to repay your sins. Carry on with the inspections,” he voiced out to Kate. She stood up. I didn’t miss the amusement of her features. It was like she played her cards well and even got it with a bonus.
“Wait what?” Leila called out, shrinking her nose with disgust. The Lycan King walked directly behind us. He followed us as we inspected the unit. Kate did most of the talking. It was like she was born for it.
After some while, we escorted him to the main unit to meet our parents.
...
“What do we say? It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty.” Alpha Gryffon breathed out. I was used to calling him that even though he was my father.
My mother extended her greetings too, paying her respect. I mind-linked my mum, telling her of the part Kate needed to warm his bed. She was disappointed but did a great job of hiding it.
Our part in the game ended there because this was the role of my parents. We were dismissed but still hung around. It took half an hour before they all came out. I didn’t miss the tension and unsettlement in my dad’s voice as his mind linked us all.
“All members of the pack should report to The Fronters, now!” he ordered, with a cold tone. It didn’t take so long before all pack members showed up there. An Alpha’s order was like a wake-up call.
Defy and you just had to be dead.
Everything was settled and we took our positions. I stood beside my brothers, Hayden and Hunter who were beside Kate. I saw Ida amidst the crowd. She gave me a warm smile, assuring me that everything would be okay. Thus, I breathed out a sigh.
“We just hope,” Leila stated, candidly.
Everyone awaited as the Omegas and Gammas set the stage in a hurry. When they did finish, my dad made his way towards the stage to address us all.
The Lycan King, on the other hand, was seated at the most treasured part of The Fronters. His Beta and Delta were both on his side with a blank expression. They just watched everything being run.
Dad adjusted the microphone to address us. We used this medium as the members of the Blood Moon pack were too many. We were almost up to a thousand. This was unusual in a wolf pack. A wolf pack was usually hundreds but our pack was a mixed breed system.
We had wolves who were Omegas or Gammas, rogues who needed help because their pack banished them, and the Lycans. The Lycans were few though because we were the most powerful. Thus, we could wipe out thousands of wolf packs out there.
A Lycan could wipe off hundreds of mere werewolves. They were like gods brought down by the Moon Goddess. This was why people gave them respect at the minimum.
“There would be an alignment with the Frost Kingdom starting from this day.” Lycan Alpha Gryffon started. I noticed Dad looked a bit unwell. But it took someone close to him to notice. He didn’t approve of this and I knew that.
But he was playing safe because no one dared disobey or confront the King of all Lycans. It was like playing a death card and tossing without caution.
Why was this alignment happening?
No, no, not happening. This can’t occur. This wasn’t how I expected everything to turn out to be. This wasn’t the game I prepared for.
It was like everything he taught us till today had just come to a waste.
Why would father agree to that?
Did the Lycan King feed on his fears?
“Our Majesty, The Lycan King, noticed Blood Moon isn’t advanced in the training aspect. Whereas, this makes space for future enemies. This is the reason he’ll be introducing us to the technologies of his pack.”
“From today onwards, the Frost Kingdom will be handling the training section.” he instantly declared, going straight to the actual point.
