Pack.Inspection

My thoughts were still consumed with my best friend’s death, as I ate. A few moments later, Dad came into the sitting room. He uttered something as he walked towards us. “The Lycan King has been going around packs for inspection,” My dad said, with a hand straightening his black hair. I gulped on the drink that was presently in my mouth. “Wait, what?” I asked, wriggling my brows. My worst enemy would soon be showing up in my pack. Here in Blood Moon? Why? Dad nodded his head, before staring at me. I knew that look. That was a pitiful look. A look that held worry towards me. Because he thought I was a sorry case. He gave me one of those when my best friend got killed. And I detested it. “I’m certainly not kidding, rainbow.” He answered me with my nickname this time. He called me that from childhood since I was the last born. My hands immediately fisted into balls, with fury. I was presently controlling my wolf from not venting her anger. My father as the Alpha, didn’t care if you were his blood relations or not. Once you broke the pack rules, you had to be ready to go straight to the dungeon. In the dungeon, you wouldn’t get any good food to eat for a week. That should teach you to do the needful when around an Alpha. It was all about lessons being learned the hard way. How do I know…? With my rebellious ways, I’ve been there of course. My brothers made a cat whistle from the sitting room that minute. They had resolved the previous argument they were having a few minutes before. You see what I said about them making you look like a fool? You could tell from that… “You didn’t know, Kat?” Hayden called, asking me where he was. I immediately nodded my head, with my gaze on him. “Well now you do,” Hunter chuckled out. He patted Hayden’s shoulders and they began laughing so hard. Guess you could see how petty they could both be. They weren’t just birds of the same feathers. At least birds of the same feathers could sometimes fight… Then maybe not talk to each other for a week? My brothers were nothing close to that. They couldn’t do without each other every single day. So, I’d say they suited each other badly. My mum came in the instant they made fun of me. Walking straight to them, she smacked each of their heads with a baking spoon. “To think you are both her elder brothers! Stop making fun of my little princess,” she exclaimed. They both yelped, standing up from their spots immediately. I rolled my eyes at the fact that she just called me little princess. Mum just didn’t think I had grown up for any reason. She always told me I’d always remain her baby girl. “Every Gryffon and resident should be at the central house this minute!” Dad announced to us with his Alpha tone. His pupils dilated. He summoned Katherine to show up. You might have been wondering where she was or what she was doing. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you… As the firstborn, Katherine was aiming to be the perfect epitome of a Luna. Every morning when she woke up, the first thing she thought of, were the pack members. She would then order the Omegas and Gammas to distribute food and clothing to the pack. They respected her and loved her. She was the perfect example of a great daughter, unlike me. I wasn’t just interested. I respected the food and clothing she gave them but I just didn’t want to live up to please anyone. So far, I learned that the pack members could be big ingrates. Following how the crew left Ezekiel to die in the hands of that merciless Lycan king was solid proof. When everyone gathered at the center house, Dad looked around to make sure we were complete. There was mum, my two brothers, Katherine, Ida and me. I noticed Katherine wore a purple formal gown today. Her silver hair was perfectly plaited with flowers around them. Her chin was up high like a great Luna. She was sort of a goody-two-shoes. I remember having issues with Mum, about wearing gowns. I just didn’t like how nice and naïve they made me appear. I could only thank my moons that I was 18 and of age. This meant I could get to choose my clothes. I was more of a ripped person who preferred denim and leather jackets. A kick-ass style was what I liked. Ida gave me a warm smile from where she stood. She had been my nanny since I was a child. But she wasn’t anymore. We were close though. I went to confide in her and I always felt as if she understood me perfectly. “Since the Lycan King has been inspecting packs for a while now, I must divide you all into units to stay at each branch,” Dad started. By staying at each branch, we were to monitor the pack folks as they explained to the visitors, how we ran things here. “Hayden, you’ll be staying with Ida and your twin brother, Hunter. I will be with your mum at the main unit. While Katherine would be paired with Katniss,” he finalized. My eyes bolted immediately at his statement. I gave Katherine a disdainful look that instant. I hated the fact that we were both paired together. Our personalities just didn’t go. She was a total goody-two-shoes and I wasn’t. “Any questions?” Dad asked. “Yes, please,” Katherine replied with a soft and polite tone that burned through my skin. “Shoot,” Dad told her. “What time will the Lycan King be showing up at our pack?” she asked. I felt disgusted that she knew what that King did to my best friend, yet she mentioned his name. “noon, be ready by then,” he replied to her. I watched with a frown as she bowed her head, using the old tradition of the Blood Moon. “Thanks, Father.” “Any more questions?” he asked again. Hayden and Hunter raised their hands at the same time. They ended up making everyone laugh, without making a point. … The next morning was a tight schedule for everyone. They were all nervous about meeting the Lycan King but I knew I wasn’t. I hated his entire being and wished him dead, even without knowing him. As I wore my leather jacket, I put some shades on to protect my eyes from the sun. In my boots was a pocket knife, coated with wolfsbane. The second leg held an oak stake for dangers. Lone wolves attacked our pack numerous times and I had to be on guard. I reached the unit with Katherine before noon. She ended up walking and cross-checking the water area. From a distance, I noticed how easily she related to the pack. Scoffing at that, I checked the barn management. As I conversed with them, I heard footsteps behind me. I tucked out my knife and turned towards the person immediately. Without looking up, I used a leg to tackle the person immediately. I settled on the figure, stretching my knife towards the person. I was immediately flipped over and trapped in the figure’s hands. “This is why I always win against you,” she said, smoothly. I then realized who had trapped me. Katherine. Her silver hair, was in curls today. It made her look like a total witch. “Enlighten me,” I uttered out. “You fight with too much rage, Katniss. That causes you to lose focus on protecting what’s truly important,” she said, smiling. “And did I ask for your tutor, Missy Perfection?” I seethed, with a hateful glance. Katherine had always been compared to me while we grew up. People always said I was nothing like her. Beautiful, smart, or polite. As a little kid, I never understood their reasons. “Here is a perfect example of how you don’t listen to anyone,” Her eyes and lips pressed firmly together in mockery as she said this. With an enraged look, I told her, “Get off me.” She let me go immediately, standing up straight. I watched as she straightened her gown perfectly. “Try not to throw yourself at the Lycan King today. We were made for each other,” she said. I cringed my brows and almost puked when she said that. But I wasn’t going to show her that she affected me. To top this, I let out a chuckle, giving her a wide grin. “You think I’m like you, don’t you? I forever hate that King for taking my best friend away from me.” I answered. “Then we’re safe then,” she told me. She came forward, handing me the knife I was previously holding. “How did you…” I trailed out, in amazement at how exactly she had taken the knife. It was surprising I didn’t notice her taking it. I watched with annoyance as she headed out of the barn, with her gown swaying along with her. My legs trotted out of the barn the instant it was noon. I went to the water area only to see Katherine, laughing with a group of men. They were just three in number, all big, muscular and well-built. One of them caught my attention from a distance. Something unexplainable drew me to him. Like a sudden attraction that I never foresaw. My wolf became so agitated and wild.
