I woke up on Nana Ida’s bed, the next day. As I tried to recall the events of the previous day, I heard the door open. Through the corner of my eyes, I peeked to have a glimpse of who it was.
“Just in time, dear. Was about to drag your weak bones off the bed,” she giggled out. She opened the curtain, making an offensive ray of light, hit my forehead. I groaned, sitting up with a flat palm covering my face.
“The curtains, Ida!” I cried out to her instantly. Sun hasn’t been my thing ever since I was a child. I just didn’t want to have anything to do with it. Most Lycans walked at night. We were death walkers who seldomly moved during daytime.
“What about it? If you want to avoid the sun, then get your ass up,” she said. I shifted immediately from the bedside, sitting on the sofa.
“Whatever,” I muttered. I watched her directions. She poured a cup of tea, before walking up to me.
“Have it,” she said. “You need it more, it settles the mind,” she added. I collected the teacup from her, immediately sipping from it. The bitter taste made me shrink my nose.
I glared at her. “What the hell did I just drink, Ida?”
“Don’t fret, dearie. It’s just a special herbal tea that helps in relaxing of the mind. Life hack— it works better in the morning,” she chuckled. I immediately dropped the cup on the nearby furnished stool. I put on my shoes, sighing immediately.
“We need to go,” Leila said.
“I know,” I told her, with a frown. I needed to see what was going on, outside. I also wanted to know how last night went for my overconfident sister, Kate.
I tucked in my oak stake correctly and my daggers, zipping it by the side of my trousers. I also checked my other weapons if they were intact. When I was sure I was ready to go, I hastily put on my leather jacket.
Since the Blood Moon pack was a little near to the Frost pack, we took our fair shares in the weather. Thus, we seldom bathed. Besides, we focused more on enemies than on self-care or hygiene.
I certainly wasn’t one of those people who cleaned up weekly. I left a day in between because it suited my interest. I trained a lot more and, thus, sweated more. I had to find time later in the night to bathe by the pool.
I grabbed my leather jacket which she folded neatly.
“See you later, Nana,” I uttered, strolling out of the room. She held my hand that very second.
“Just be safe.” With a stern look, she told me. I nodded and she let go of my hand, slowly.
…
On my way outside, I noticed everyone was twice busier than they would have been before. The Omegas and Gammas worked so tactfully, doing their chores diligently. My ears could trace the chattering though.
“Have you heard of what happened to Lycan Kate last night?” The other nodded to this question.
“It’s the Lycan King. He was said to reject her body on sight,” she whispered. A look of horror immediately designed her face.
“What might be the reason? Lycan Kate is such a beauty. Luscious silver hair just like the Luna’s, a good heart and an amazing body. Why will he reject her?” she asked.
The other drew nearer to her, whispering again.
“Don’t know but I heard he’s on a search for his mate. History says a Lycan King’s wolf, can only sense his mate, in a bare and naked form,”
“Yes, that’s true. But he’s the Lycan King. One order and we’ll all strip before him. Why isn’t he doing that?”
“Maybe he has some humanity after all—”
I immediately cleared my voice and they shook abruptly on their spots.
“W-We apologize, Lycan Katniss,” They both let out, bowing down.
“Carry on with work immediately,” I answered. They did as I just said. I strode out towards the corridor, making my way towards my room. My boots stamped on the floor as I walked. My thoughts were instantly filled with my elimination plan.
I wanted a way to eliminate the Lycan King and get revenge for Ezekiel’s death. Me and Jennifer had the same agenda and mission. The only thing was that I wasn’t good at working with people. I was trained to work alone. As a deathwalker, I was taught to fight with everything I had.
A muffled and thin sound made me stop in my tracks. With my empowered Lycan vision, my steely blue eyes averted to the direction I heard it from.
“Where is that coming from?” Leila asked, at the sudden sound. Something that took a Lycan’s hearing, to figure out. I found myself following that sound. I arched my brow when I stopped at the entrance of one of the hundreds of rooms, in the pack house.
My wolf sniffed the air.
“Hold on, I know that scent,” Leila thoughtfully breathed out. Gently, my hand opened the door. I came to a realization when I saw a figure on the floor.
Kate, my sister. She looked unhappy.
Her clothes were barely hanging on her body. She sobbed a lot, which put my mind in a mist of amazement. Quietly, I made my way towards her.
I sighed.
I bent lower and was about to open my mouth to make a statement when she stopped me.
“Don’t bother.” she seethed. “Don’t say it ‘cause I’m not going to hear you out, anyway.” she grimaced again. I stood up from my spot and took a step back from her.
“Wasn’t going to sympathize with you, nonetheless,” I said. She immediately raised her head. I could see mascara stains beneath her eyes. In a way, she deserved this. She bit more than she could chew, thinking the Lycan King would mark her as his mate.
“I knew it. I knew you came to make fun of me.”
She knew what? She had this thing of making everything about her. To think that I was too busy planning the Lycan King’s death. I didn’t even think of doing that.
“You guessed wrong. Came to tell you to keep it low because you were being too much of a disturbance.” I mocked, with a slight grin. I watched as her claws elongated and her eyes reddened in anger.
“You b*tch!” she yelled.
Overlooking her anger, I began to walk out of her room.
“She’s such a waste of effort.” Leila snickered out. I knew she was right.
For the sake of the pack, I stopped in my tracks, looking back at her, “Are you going to mar that reputation because of the merciless Lycan King?”
“What are you talking about?” she retorted, with a frown.
“All these years of being the perfect epitome of a good Luna... Are you tarnishing it, because he jilted you from his chambers last night?” I asked her.
No reply came from her. Instead, she looked down. I could tell it was shame. My wolf scoffed at the sight of her looking so weak.
Unable to bear it, we walked out of the room.
…
Towards the evening, I managed to have a conversation with Dad, regarding the alliance with Frost Pack. He explained that it was somewhat of a necessary evil and this was what Alphas did, to preserve lives.
Nothing made sense to me. Instead, I became so furious, even walking out on him, with rage. I walked to the pool to have a bath to calm my nerves.
I knew Alpha Gryffon let go of lots of things because I was the last born. Due to the circumstances that surrounded my birth, he treated me with some leniency, which I also knew. Finding the reason behind that would be later.
Sighing off, I gently peeled the clothes off my body, keeping it in a safe place. There was nothing safer than having a night bath in the pool. This was because only a few knew that a pool existed here.
It was like a code among the Lycans, because this place was surrounded by a high wall, and only a Lycan speed and strength, could jump.
“I feel hazy,” Leila told me. I got in the pool immediately, holding both my body and hair wash. Slowly, I massaged it through my body, humming as I bathed.
I was sure to scratch the dirt, off my neck and other delicate places, I felt needed to be scrubbed. My mind wandered to a million thoughts, while I bathed. I urged to know the Lycan King’s weakness, and how I could easily terminate him.
A gentle breeze blew. The waters slowly swayed, leading to goose pimples on my entire body, including the n*****s. As I reached to wash my hair, I felt a presence in the water, which made me freeze on my spot.
“Mate.” some seductive voice whispered. My eyes bolted and I felt the hairs on my back rise. I wriggled my brows wondering who it was exactly. Slowly, my gaze angled towards the direction I heard the voice.
A strong arm instantly gripped my waist, making me shriek. The hand went around my mouth, preventing me from making the intended sound. My wolf immediately recognized the scent.
Lycan King Nick.
How did he find this place?
