Kaira waited for a good fifteen minutes after feeling the Glimmer take off before she left her room. She didn’t want to give Tarkus any reason to change his mind about giving her more access to the ship.
As she climbed up the stairs she felt curiously nervous. Until now the stairs had represented a route into unknown territory. At first to a place where she was terrified Tarkus would suddenly appear from and capture her. Then, later, it was somewhere Tarkus retreated to and shut her out of.
This time when she reached the top she found that the door was open. She stepped through and glanced around. There were doors to the left and one across from her, but to the right was a security door that stood open. Through it was the flight deck… and Tarkus.
