It Had To Be You

Chapter 5: Awkward

"Well, hello there." He said trying not to blush.

"Hello." I giggled while rolling to my side.

"Ahem." We look to see dad.

"Hey dad." I said innocently.

He just shook his head and asked "are you staying for dinner?"

"Sure." He answered to dad.

"Okay, and no funny business." Dad said to us and then left. I turned to see Shannon who was red. I couldn't help but giggle.

"Don't mind my dad, he is just overprotective." 

"It's ok." He said sheepishly.

"You know, I never thought that we would be hanging out." He told me. "Same for your friends, I mean you guys are like popular, and today you all hung out with me."

"It was nice to hang out with everyone, I've always been ignored, mainly cause I like to study and read a lot, then there's the fact that they all called me names cause I wear glasses." He sighed.

"Well, we might be popular, but we are not your typical popular kids who like to label people and discriminate depending on your social status." I said to him. "I love reading a good book too." I smiled.

"Hi people." We look down to see Alex.

"Hey sleepy head." I picked her and put her on my lap.

"Hey, Alex." 

"Psst, Shannon." 

"Yeah." He whispered.

"Can we have ice cream." She said innocently.

"Of course, after dinner we can, if it's okay with your mom." 

"Yeah."

After dinner we went for ice cream, talked for a while, Kyle and Sebastian talking all kinds of shits, I swear they are too much and forget there's a three year old present. Let's not forget Alex decided to smash ice cream on everyone's faces, her words were, 'food fight mommy'.

We all left and said goodbye, Shannon took me and Alex home.

"Thanks for the ice cream." I smiled.

"You got lucky she didn't smash ice cream on your face." He chuckle.

"I'm her mom, she knows not to pull those on me." I chuckled.

"I had a great time with you and your friends." 

"What about me." Alex pouted.

He grabbed her from the seat behind and put her on his lap. "You are my favorite, I always enjoy your little company." He smiled as her face lit up.

"You should be mommy's boyfriend." She pinched his cheeks. Yeah, so not awkward, thanks a lot Alex. "Grandma is at the door." She got out of the car and ran towards her.

"Well, uuhm." Words couldn't come out of his mouth, leave it to Alex to make things awkward.

"Pay no attention to Alex, kids say all kinds of things." I giggled he was really red.

I leaned in and gave him a kiss on his cheek. "See you tomorrow, Shannon." I waved goodbye  before getting out of his car.

"Bye, Krystal." He waved back. He waited till I was inside and then he drove off.

"Come here, baby girl." She started running knowing what she did. Mom just laughed.

I went to give Alex a shower and then changed her to pj's.

"Mommy?"

"Yes." 

"Who's my daddy?" 

Ah s**t, I did not see this question coming for at least a few years. How do I say that her father is nothing but a piece of trash and deserves to be buried alive.

"He died when you were very young." I said trying not to remember what happened.

"Was he nice?" 

"He was a big meanie." I sighed.

"Oh, like Andrew?" 

"No, he was worst. But he is in a better place." I said to her and she just hugged me.

"I love you." 

"I love you more, baby girl."

A month flew by and I've been getting to know Shannon better, and yes he is still shy, but I like that. Alex and him have bonded a lot to the point he calls her princess. My heart melts everytime. 

Maya and Sebastian are dating. And they are both unholy. Johanna asked Maya if she could pinch Sebas ass. She said no that those cheeks belong to her. I swear my friends are very unholy. Bri and Kyle still together, I mean no one could break them up, one girl tried to flirt with Kyle and Bri punched her.

"Excuse me, do you know what class is this." I turned to see a guy.

"New here?" I asked checking his schedule.

"Yeah, just moved to the city, and first day of senior today." He said.

"You have some classes with me."I gave his schedule back.

"Cool." He smiled. We made it there and I went to sit on my desk, Shannon wasn't here, weird he usually arrives early.

Everyone arrived and the teacher too.  After twenty minutes later, Shannon entered the classroom. Then I noticed why he was late.

Bullied.

"Take a seat, and I don't like tardiness." The teacher said to him angry.

"What did I miss?" He asked Like nothing happened.

"Shannon, who did that?" I asked in a worried tone. He had bruises on his arm and a few on his face, and his glasses were a bit broken.

"Don't worry about it, I'm used to it." He sighed.

I grabbed his face, "Shannon, no one should be used to this, bullying is not ok." I saw a tear fall, my heart ached for him.

"Come on." I grabbed his hand and walked out.

"Where are you two going?" The teacher asked us.

"Out of here, you are a very insensitive person, I can't wait to leave this hell hole." I snapped at him and everyone went silent.

We were both good student so I decided to skip the day, Shannon needed someone. We went to the beach where no one would bother us.

"Talk to me, Shannon." 

"How did you know I was being bullied?" 

"Because my cousin was bullied here, and he was bullied for being a 'nerd'. His parents moved him to another school and he is doing great there. You need to say something about this."

"I can't." He sighed.

"Shannon, what if things get worse, I don't want that to happen." 

He sighed and said "Rose, Andrew and a few of his friends. They said I was nothing but a mistake, that I should've been aborted." He started to cry.

"They say this because, I was also a product of rape." My heart dropped, I didn't know that part of Shannon. Tears were falling from seeing him like this.

I gave him a hug and let him cry on my shoulder like he did last month with me. "I'm here for you."

"We're all here for you." We look up to see our friends.

"We're sorry we followed you, but we knew something was up." Kyle said to us.

They all went to sit down next to him. "We got your back, and those fuckers will pay tomorrow." Sebastian said to Shannon.

"You are not alone, you got us." Bri smiled at him.

Our friends can be crazy and many more things, but when it comes to friendship, they all got your back. And I was thankful for them.
