~Lilly~
My mind was running a mile a minute and I felt like I kept getting run over by a car. I was thrilled to see Evan again. I wanted to give him a hug and have all of this pain go away... but he looked at me as if I was a virus. I know the crown can be intimidating, but was it really enough for him to hate me?
"What are you thinking about?" My father asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Frowning, I realized that we were dancing and tried to figure out how I had gotten to the dance floor. "I... was just a little overwhelmed with everything."
"Were you thinking of your mate?"
Gasping, I stopped dancing and looked at him, "You know?"
"I could smell it on you both," Lyal sighed softly, taking my hand to pull me out of the ball room and into the elevator. Once the doors were closed, he hit the emergency stop button.
"Okay, you are really freaking me out!"
"This is the only place in the palace that is 100% sound proof with no cameras," He shrugged easily as he took a seat on the floor. "So... the Chef is your mate."
"Could you say that with a little more disgust in your voice?" Frowning softly, I fell to my knees beside him. "I... I met him when I went to the bar with the others last night."
"And it was instant?"
Nodding sadly, I looked at him, "I'm sorry to disappoint you like this. I know you want me to marry a prince and be the perfect queen and all I keep doing is screwing up."
"Have I been that overbearing?" My father asked with a voice so sad I almost cried. "Have I been so controlling that you think I would try to pull you away from your mate?"
"Dad, you literally threw me a party to pick who my arranged husband would be! Last night was the first time I'd ever left the castle! I think repunzle has been less repressed than I have."
My father watched me as I tried to catch my breath and eventually pulled me into his arms as I cried. "I am sorry," He whispered against my hair, shocking me. "I thought all of these years that I was protecting you when I was doing nothing but hurt you. I am sorry it took me so long to see that."
"What changed your mind? Just yesterday you were set on me marrying a prince and being proper and not an embarrassment."
"Joy." He chuckled softly, making me look at him like he had lost what little sanity he had left. "I saw the look in your eyes when I let you go to the club. The light in your face when you were bantering with your cousins and they were telling you of your adventures... I also saw the pain in your eyes when you were talking to Evan. If that much sorrow exists, then I can only imagine the joy that was once there."
"It... it doesn't matter I am the next queen."
"So? Your mother was a maid in the castle and she was an excellent queen. Why can the head chef not make a magnificent king?"
Frowning, I stared at him, convinced that he had been invaded by a body snatcher. "Mom got to you didn't she?"
"That... that may be part of it," He blushed, making me gag. "But it was a realization I have needed to come to for a while. I am sorry it took as long as it did."
"Its okay... can I talk to you about something though?"
"Am I going to like it?"
Shaking my head, I took a deep breath and began to fiddle with my dress, "I...I don't want to be queen."
Silence fell over the elevator and I could feel my father's Alpha aura filling the room and then receding as he tried to calm his Lycan. "What did you say?"
Looking at him, I whimpered sadly, "Don't make me say it again. It was hard enough to admit in the first place."
"Since when."
"Always!" I snapped and then I saw it in his eyes... hurt. My father stood on the floor and pressed the stop button again so the elevator would start moving again. "Daddy?"
"We will discuss this when I have calmed down... right now I fear the words that will come out of my mouth."
Nodding, I said nothing as we made our way back to the ball room. "Daddy..." However, before I could take his hand, he pulled away from me and began talking to the visiting diplomats. I knew that face... I had hurt him, disappointed him, and more than that, I had broken his heart.
Whimpering sadly, I walked to Cam and wrapped myself in his arms. "Lilly?" He asked in confusion as he hugged me back.
"Just... just hold me please. I'm borrowing him for now, Terra."
"Go ahead," She smiled sadly as she rubbed my back.
"What happened?" Avery frowned, joining us.
"Oh you know the usual. I found my mate and now I'm the world's biggest disappointment."
"Thats it!" London growled, taking my hand to drag me to the kitchen.
"London what are you!" snapping at her, I wanted to kill her until I smelled his scent. Lifting my head, I saw Evan before me and as confused as I was, I was relieved. "Sis?"
"No words!" She snapped, dragging Evan to the window seat and forcing him to sit. Then she all but threw me into his arms. "No words. Don't talk. Mate scents help when you are overwhelmed. Use one another and then go back to being idiots for all I care." She said nothing else as she left the room, all but cussing us out.
"Sorry..." I whispered, moving to sit up. Evan grabbed me instinctively and held me against his chest so I could hear his heart beat.
"Just... sit still." he whispered softly.
