Regret?

~Evan~ 'Go and claim her!' My wolf growled at me as he tried to force me to go back. 'Knock it off!' I growled in annoyance as I made my way towards my brothers. Every fiber of my being wanted to punch the man in the face for touching MY mate. However, I stand by the fact that she is not property and she is not mine to claim due to instinct. She clearly had a chosen mate and she didn't need me interfering with that. Just being in the same room as me made her want to flee, so why would I want to claim a mate that didn't even want to look at me. "Cameron, I missed you," River beamed as the man put him on the ground. "I haven't seen you in a week!" "That is what happens when you work for a living," Cameron sighed, sitting down on a bench. "I work!" "Two days a month," Cameron chuckled. You would think that they didn't like each other by the way they bickered. However, the look that Cameron had in his eyes when he saw River told you all that you needed to know. The man thought that River hung the moon. "Well... that is what happens when you own your own business," River grumbled quietly as he pouted. "Not all of us were given a rental property when we graduated high school," Cameron reminded him as he pulled him onto his lap. "And that's my fault?" River whined, burrowing into him. "Never said it was," Cameron smiled, kissing the top of his head. "Now what were the four of you doing cornering the Moonlight Pack?" "Moonlight pack?" I asked, confused. "Yeah, the four of you idiots thought it was smart to corner the Moonlight's Alpha and his family." "YOUR MATE IS THE MOONLIGHTS LUNA!!!" River shouted, nearly shattering my ear drums. 'She is ours!' My wolf growled and I could feel his desire to rip River apart for even suggesting that our mate belonged to another. 'You need to tone down your obsessive need to claim her like an object,' I hissed at my wolf while I watched my brothers bicker back and forth about the fact that I was mated to someone who not only had a chosen mate, but was also already the Luna of her pack. I swear it's right when you decide to take control of your life that the moon goddess chooses to laugh at you. "Evan, this is a problem," My brother Gabe said firmly as he tightened his grip on my shoulder, pulling me out of my inner monologue. "Guys relax, there is no problem." I sighed, shaking my brother's hand off of me. "How is there not a problem?" Willow sighed, moving so that he was standing to the right of me with Gabe on the left. "Because you guys are under the assumption that I need to march up to her, yank her away from her mate, and forcibly claim her as my own." "That is typically what the mate bond makes us do," Cameron smirked as he softly kissed River's ear. "You're telling me that there is no part of you that wants to do that?" Willow asked, raising an eyebrow at me in question. Sighing, I shook my head, "My wolf wants me to do exactly that. However, I have no desire to do that. I always wondered what a mate pull would feel like, but I always told myself that if they were happy and already had a mate that I would walk away. There is no reason that I should uproot her life just because we are mates." "That is the exact reason!" River gasped, "Our mates are goddess given! You should protect that bond no matter what!" "Just because you were given a mate who was perfect for you and your situation doesn't mean that all of us were!" I snapped, my eyes glowing red as my wolf tried to take over. Taking a deep breath, I shook my head and looked at my brother. We are only a year apart and were raised like twins, so I hate fighting with him. "River... My situation is not yours. I wasn't given a mate who I had a secret crush on for three years... My mate belongs to someone else already. We don't have a friendship to begin with. Why would I take away her chosen mate, pack, and home... because of the fact that I am her mate?" "Secret crush?" Cameron smirked as River turned bright red. "I am so going to explore that later!" I laughed, standing up from the bench, placing River on the seat. Slowly he turned to me and I saw him more serious than ever before. "Are you sure about this? Evan?" "What do you mean?" "Are you sure you won't regret walking away from her right now?" Cameron asked before turning me around to face the club. I watched in sorrow as my mate exited the club with her chosen mate and the three girls they were with. She was bright red with his arm around her shoulders and I could see how comfortable she was, even with the girls teasing her. "Look at her," I whispered softly. "She is happy... she has a family. All I would be doing is setting off an atom bomb in her world and that isn't fair to her." "So what about the bond?" River sighed softly, standing beside me as my brothers and I stood in a line next to one another. Frowning, I looked after her and my heart hurt when she turned around and our eyes locked. A soft blush covered her cheeks as we looked at one another. "I'll leave it in tact. If I break the bond, she won't be able to have children... And she should have them." "But wolves cannot have children except with their mate." "Unless they have a bonded chosen mate. Based on how his scent is all around her, I would say they were bonded long before tonight." Smiling sadly, I looked at my brothers. "Can we please go do something else?" Each of them nodded as we headed to another bar. Why was fate so crule?
