Chapter 1: Hidden Edge
Emily Thompson stood in front of the dilapidated apartment building, her hand tightly clutching the heavy bunch of keys. The sun filtered through the sparse clouds and dappled her face, but it couldn't dispel the haze in her heart. There was a barely perceptible determination in her eyes. Although her body was trembling and her heart was bleeding.
Emily's husband, Mark Thompson, is a businessman with a glamorous appearance, but his heart is colder than ice. Not only does he have a new lover on the outside, but he is also planning how to drive Emily out of this home so that his lover can rightfully become the mistress of this family.
Emily's mother-in-law, a mean old woman, always finds fault with her in various ways, from housework to appearance. Every day for Emily is like walking a tightrope, carefully balancing family harmony and her own dignity.
But no one knows that Emily is actually a hidden business genius. She holds a secret business empire in her hands, a secret she has never revealed to anyone. This empire is the legacy left to her by her father, and she has been operating it silently until today.
Today, she decides not to hide anymore. She wants those who once looked down on her and those who once bullied her to see clearly her true strength.
Emily took a deep breath and pushed open the door of the apartment. Her mother-in-law was sitting on the sofa in the living room, holding the remote control in her hand and staring at the TV with a look of disdain.
"You're back? Why are you so late today?" There was full of sarcasm in her mother-in-law's voice.
Emily didn't answer. She just walked quietly in front of her mother-in-law and took out a document from her bag.
"What's this?" Her mother-in-law frowned and took the document.
"This is my divorce agreement." Emily's voice was calm and firm.
Her mother-in-law's face instantly became ugly. She didn't expect this woman who had always been trampled under her feet to dare to propose a divorce.
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you can survive after leaving this family?" Her mother-in-law's voice became shrill.
Emily smiled faintly. There was a hint of coldness in her smile that was hard to detect.
"I can not only survive, but also live very well." Emily turned and left the apartment without looking back.
She knows that this is just the beginning. Her counterattack has just begun.
