HIS LOVER IN DISCRETION

I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm, got up and headed towards the bathroom for a start of a new day. Dad wanted me to oversee the business here in Nantes, France. As much as I loved working here, it is totally boring, my friends aren’t here to keep me accompany and all I do is go to work,come back late, have dinner and sleep. The annoying cycle have been going on for about six to seven years now. I couldn’t bear to go to San Francisco, I couldn’t look at him and explain to him that he is making a mistake getting married to her. It was my fault but at the same time, I can’t risk his mom killing her. It wasn’t fair. I got downstairs after having a quick shower and dressing up. I eat the regular yet annoying cereal I always have. “Have a good day Sir” Melinda said and I headed towards the door and I wave her off. I got to work and started for the day, halfway through my work, Rissa burst in. I hated the girl guts but have no choice but to play along since her dad and mine were business associates. “Hey babe” She said while chewing gum before making herself comfortable in front of me. “Is there any problem?” I asked. I just want to finish work and go home. “I can’t see you again?. Anyways, mom wants you to come over for dinner this night, she said she wants to make an important announcement before you leave” She said and I frowned at her. “What do you mean by leave?” I asked. “Your dad said you are going back to San Francisco next week” She said while coming over to my to my seat and placing a kiss on my cheek. YUCK. “I will see you later this evening” She said before finally taking her leave. I immediately call dad. “I want an explanation right now” I said immediately he picks up the call. “What a good way of greeting your father” He said sarcastically and I roll my eyes. “The explanation now” I demanded. “Well, the last time you were here was like seven or eight years ago, I want to come and try and get an idea of how things are done here” He said. “I can’t” I simply said but he isn’t having any of it. “You are not going to give me the same bullshit of excuses that you’ve been giving. Your mother wants to see her son and am not getting any younger. You need to take your place in the company”. He said and I groaned. “Does it have to be so soon?” I asked. “You’ve been delaying it. You have no choice now, unless you want your mother to come over there and hand you your ass” He said. After contemplating for a while, I finally decided to go. I mean how bad can it be. “So we should be expecting you by next week?” He asked and I replied with a yes. I got to Rissa’s parents house and ring the doorbell before waiting for a reply. It wasn’t that I hated Rissa, I just didn’t have any sort of romantic feelings for her. To me, she is more or less like a younger sister but our families especially our mothers don’t seem to get the memo. “Why do you always have to knock? This is also your home. You can come in anytime” Justina, Rissa’s Mom said while grinning at me. “I appreciate all of you for coming here”Justina began when dinner started. I thought this was supposed to be a family dinner, was it really necessary for her to invite her friends. “I want to announce that my daughter is officially engaged to Jeremy” She said and I started choking on the Apple juice that I was having. I don’t remember ever proposing to Rissa. “Am so happy for the both of you” Justina said while I am completely dumbfounded. How can I get engaged behind my own back. “A toast to a better future for both of you and that your relationship will last longer than ever” She said while everyone broke into cheers and congratulations starts pouring in. “Can I have a moment?” I asked Rissa. “Of course”She said while smiling before leading me to her room. “What the f**k was that about?” I asked once the door was locked. “What do you mean?” She asked in a naive tone. “Ohhh…..Please spare me the bullshit. What in the world was your mom talking about because I don’t remember asking you to marry me” I said. “We have been together since we were kids. What do you think she was going to do?”She said. “And I thought I f*****g told you that I don’t love you” I said and she smiled. “When we get married, you will have no choice but to fall in love with me” She said. “Have anyone ever told you that you’re a crazy, delusional person?” I asked. “You better explain to your mom that whatever she is thinking is not going to happen” I said. “And you should also get ready to inform your parents that the deal will be off if you try any of that s**t” She threatened before walking away while slamming the door. I got to San Francisco the following Monday after failing to make Rissa and her Mom see reason why I can’t get married to her. “You look mad” Jason, my elder brother said immediately he saw my face at the airport. “Why wouldn’t he be?. He is engaged to someone he doesn’t like at all” Joshua, my younger brother explained. “I really think you should explain to Mom” Jason said. “And tell her what?” I asked when we got inside the car. “I don’t know, probably that she is making the biggest mistake ever by trying to get you married to a psychopath” He said……………………..
