Chapter 21

821 Words

Chapter 21Silver slid into the isolation tank, naked except for his underwear, a wired skullcap, and the breathing mask that was attached to the ventilator. The suspension fluid was cold and he did not like the idea that Mahi’s body had lain in it, decomposing. He had cleaned the mask but there was no time to drain the tank and replace the fluid, if there was even any available. His shoulder was probably going to get infected. Completely submerged, he could see Marcus giving him a thumbs-up, distorted through the mask, fluid, and window on the tank. It reminded Silver of when they first met and the full measure of the man had been obscured through his uniform and his worry. If he was concerned now, he did not show it. Silver hoped he survived, if only so he could honestly thank Marcus.
