❤Cassandra
It was hard watching Warren storm out of the council chamber room, but it had cut Cassandra like a knife watching Felicity storm out. She turned to her mate and sighed. Had they done the right thing? She wasn’t sure and yet she knew that the wolves deserved more. Both Warren and Felicity had been right, they no longer deserved to be called the council. Not only had they been in control for well over fifty years, but Cassandra realized just how tired she really was. Looking over at the other members, who she considered family, she knew that they too were tired. Although Xander and Kaila where younger, they too looked warn out. Was it time for them to step down?
“I know what you are thinking,” Dimitry whispered as he reached out and placed his hand on her knee. She quickly covered his hand and smiled sadly at her husband. “And I agree,” he said before he leaned over and kissed her cheek. “We have all given our lives to be a part of this council,” he announced to the others. “Felicity and Warren are upset, and they have every right to be. If it was any of our children, we would be the same. We can no longer sit here, it is time for us to let go,” he said seriously. She watched as the others slowly nodded in agreement.
“What are we going to do about this current situation?” June asked curiously and Cassandra stood up.
“We are going to do everything we can do. Let’s consider this our last mission, our big bang on going out,” Cassandra said loudly. The others nodded in agreement before they all went their separate ways. Cassandra followed closely behind Dimitry to their small home in the pack. She didn’t look around; she knew that by not confiding in Felicity had been a sin. It was wrong. She should’ve done more. Once they were safely inside, he turned to her.
“We should’ve seen this coming,” he stated, and she nodded. A few years ago, they had been given a tip about a couple who had been investigating, fishing around wolf business. At the time, nothing had happened, and they had forgotten about it. When the first couple of shifter children had been taken, they should have done something. Instead, they had done nothing. Now their own kind was being taken and Cassandra felt as if it was her fault. If only they had acted more strongly back then, maybe this situation could have been avoided.
“We need to tell her,” Cassandra blurted out. However, when Dimitry nodded sadly, she knew that telling Felicity the whole truth was bound to backfire.
“We also need replacements,” he said.
“What are you suggesting?” she asked curiously, the current situation taking a backseat.
“We know of only one other Alpha Luna,” he remarked and that’s when it hit her.
“Of course!” she hurried past him to grab her phone and quickly dialed Felicity’s number. How had she missed that?
“What do you want?” the sound of Felicity’s voice should have made her feel better, but Cassandra knew she deserved the hostility in her friend’s voice.
“How far have you gone?” she asked.
“Not very far, why?”
“Can you come to the pack?” Cassandra asked as she turned to face her husband. “It is rather urgent,” she added.
“Alright, we will turn around,” Felicity said before hanging up. Cassandra placed the phone back on the small desk and sighed.
“Will they come?” Dimitry asked even though he had been listening in on the short conversation.
“Yes,”
“Then prepare yourself for the wrath of Felicity Ryker,” Dimitry’s attempt at making a joke was unsuccessful. Cassandra was all too much aware of just how feisty Felicity could get. She had after all worked with her many years ago.
❤Felicity
Felicity glanced out of the passenger side window and sighed as she took in the familiar surroundings. Once upon a time, she had trained with these wolves and now she felt sick. Whatever reason Cass had for calling them back had better be good. Not only was she feeling tired, but she was still very much worried about her missing son. The dead-end they had hit with the council had been a hard thing to swallow. She could only hope that Cass was going to offer something more, something better. Warren pulled up alongside the small home Cass and Dimitry shared and she hopped out of the vehicle. Cass was standing in the open door with a sad smile and Felicity quickly looked away. She hated how emotional she felt being back here and seeing who she had thought was a good friend.
“This better be good,” Felicity snapped as she approached Cassandra. The small welcoming smile fell from her lips and Felicity felt a stab of remorse.
“I don’t know if it is or isn’t but please do come inside,” Cass said as she stepped to the side. Felicity entered their home and smiled as she looked around the cozy place. It was just as she remembered. Dimitry was sitting on his favorite armchair by the roaring fire, sipping on what she knew was hot cocoa. Felicity went straight to the two-seater and sat down. Warren was close behind and sat down next to her. Cass went over to Dimitry and sat down on the arm of the chair. “A few years ago, we had been given a tip about a couple who had been investigating our kind. Aside from some information, the couple disappeared, and we honestly forgot about it. However, when the first of the shifter children had been taken, we should have done something useful, but we didn’t. I suppose we thought that so long as we were safe then it didn’t matter. We were wrong to think like that, we should have warned our own kind, but we didn’t. Now, I know they are missing, and we will do whatever we can to find them,” Felicity wasn’t sure how she felt about Cass’s little speech, but she was angry. “The thing is we as the council have been around for many, many years and we aren’t on top of things the way we used to be. We’ve gone soft, so to say,” Cass said with a soft giggle. Felicity forced herself not to roll her eyes. “We also realize that its time for the council members of today to step down. The council needs to continue, and with you being an Alpha Luna, it makes sense that you should be the one to continue the good work,”
“What?” Felicity yelled out in surprise. “Surely you can’t be serious?”
“We are deadly serious,” Dimitry said calmly. “You and Warren are exactly what Cass and I are. A power couple, ultimate supreme wolf shifters,”
“But how do we just take over? How does it work?” Felicity asked as she looked over at Warren. Her mate was speechless, and she wanted to kiss him for being so adorable.
“It won’t be easy, and we know that we cannot expect anything up until we have found the missing shifters, including your son. When the time comes, we can have a meeting and discuss everything,” he said. Felicity nodded slowly as she processed this new information, this new opportunity, this new adventure.
“We would like for the two of you to stay here, to work with us on this,” Cass added.
“And we could use whatever resources to find our son?” Warren asked.
“Not just your son but all the shifters that have been kidnapped,” Dimitry answered. Warren turned to his mate and took her hands in his.
“This could be it,” he whispered. “This may just be what we need to find them,” he added. Felicity kept quiet as she thought about all the possibilities the council could offer and then she frowned. She still wasn’t sure about taking over the council but that was something she could worry about later.
“Alright, we will stay,” she announced. Warren squeezed her hand and Cass smiled along with Dimitry.
“Wonderful, I will see about getting a place ready for you,” Cass said as she jumped up and left the living room. Felicity watched her and then it dawned on her. She stood up and excused herself before rushing outside. The dial tone was annoying as she waited for Sasha to pick up the call.
“Felicity? Is everything alright? What did the council say? Felicity?” Sasha threw out the questions so fast that Felicity giggled. “What on earth is so funny?”
“If you give me a second to answer then I will tell you everything,” Felicity said slowly. She heard Sasha sigh loudly but kept quiet. “Alright, the council is going to help us find them,”
“Yes! Thank goodness!” Sasha shouted in her ear. Felicity cringed but giggled.
“But that is not the best news, I mean of course it is good news but there is more,” Felicity said quickly. Sasha kept quiet, giving the floor to her. Felicity smiled, thinking of all the possibilities. “Cass and Dimitry want me and Warren to take over the council,” she gushed out with excitement.
“What?”
“You heard me, sister,”
“That is good news!” Sasha said with just as much excitement. “Why are they stepping down though?” she then asked.
“Well, I would think it would be obvious. They have been the head of the council for so many years, they aren’t getting any younger,” Felicity explained as she rolled her eyes.
“That’s true, what about the others?” Sasha asked.
“I’m not sure about the others but that is something we can discuss after we have found all those that have been taken,” Felicity said while thinking about it. How cool wouldn’t it be to have her family with her on the council?
“Sounds good, so I am to assume that you and Warren will be staying there?”
“That is correct, which is another reason I called,” Felicity paused, unsure of how to continue. She had never asked anyone to look after her children like this before.
“Don’t worry about them,” Sasha whispered. “They are safe here, I promise,” Felicity sighed in relief.
“Thank you,”
“Of course,” Sasha said. They chatted for a few more minutes and then Felicity asked to speak with Willow. When her eldest daughter came on the line, Felicity swallowed back her emotions.
“Hey mom,” Willow greeted.
“Hello Willow, I need you to listen to me very carefully, ok?” Felicity started.
“Ok,”
“Your father and I are going to stay here at the council for a little while. We are going to use their contacts and resources to help find the kidnapped shifters, including Warrity,” she explained.
“Oh, that is good news,” her daughter remarked.
“I know you want to be at home and all that, but can I please ask you to help Sasha out?”
“Yes, mom,”
“And please behave,”
“Yes, mom,”
“I mean it Willow. This is big, your brother is gone. We need to find him, please just-”
“I know mom, I promise to behave and to help wherever I can,” Willow said softly, interrupting her mother. “Just bring him home,” Willow added.
“We will,” Felicity promised. “I love you,”
“I love you to mom,”
“Kisses and hugs to my other babies ok?” Felicity wiped at the tears that fell. She missed all her children.
“Will do, and mom?”
“Yes?”
“Be safe ok?” Willow said and Felicity nodded. She couldn’t speak further, and she knew that Willow understood. “Send my love to dad,” Willow added before hanging up. Felicity shoved the phone back into her pants pocket and wiped at her face. She hated being weak, but she would never be ashamed of showing her love for her family. Never.
“Willow?” Felicity jumped at the sound of Warren’s voice. “Sorry, babe thought you heard me coming out,”
“It’s alright, yes, that was Willow. I informed Sasha of our plans to stay here and she will take care of our kids,” Felicity explained to him.
“That’s good, how is Willow holding up?” he asked.
“She will be just fine,” Felicity said as she pressed herself against her husband’s chest, finding warmth and comfort from her mate. Warren wrapped his arms around her, and they stood like that for a little while before going back inside. Everything was about to change and suddenly Felicity Ryker had hope.
