Chapter Two: No turning back Good memories of her mother flooded her mind. The warmth in her mother’s laugh as she bid her to come was all she needed; a place with her mother was all she wanted, but everything faded when the searing pain on her neck returned. Her eyes shot open, and her hands clawed at the spot, but it only burned, and her throat opened up for louder screams. “s**t-” The words were faint against her screams but she heard them. She was in the back of a car, before she could process further, the door to her side was pulled open, and a figure leaned over her with a small bottle in her hand. “Here, drink this. It would not stop the pain entirely, but it would subdue it.” The owner wasn’t giving her an option to choose. She blinked back the tears in her eyes, trying to make out the face of the person, but all she was left with was the bright blue eyes under the dark shadows. “What’s in there-” “Don’t ask questions, Satori, if you want that burning pain to stop, then drink.” Her name sounded familiar on his lips, and so did his description of her pain. She grabbed the bottle and swallowed the contents. It tasted like iced salt, her cheeks caved inwards, but the pain on her collarbones subdued. Now that she was much saner, her eyes scanned for the quickest exit. She needed to get back home. Home, Nora, Zain. “Don’t even think about it, in case you forgot, you have powers.” Powers? She remembered the floating furniture and the look in Nora and Zain's eyes. What had she done? “You didn’t hurt anyone, well, I stopped you before you could, but right now you can’t return home.” She stared at him as he moved away from the car into the night light, where she caught sight of his black hair and black coat. He was a bit over 6’2 and had a scar on his right brow. “Look, the girl, your ex-friend’s parents are hunters. If they found out what you did or what you were doing, they’d look for a way to neutralise you,” he paused, his gaze focusing up ahead. “Or better still, kill you.” His words were stumbling blocks in finding her way in this present reality. “I don’t understand,” she admitted. “I don’t expect you to, no one told you anything,” his brows narrowed at something in the distance before turning to her. “If we don’t leave here soon, I don’t think I’d be able to meet up with your appointment at the academy.” “Academy?” She sat up straight as he shoved his hands into the pockets and brought out a silvery envelope with a black seal on it. “Here is your invitation from Principal Constantine. He would be happy if I came back with you in one piece.” “What if I don't want to go anywhere with you? Who is Principal Constantine, and what is this academy? Wh- what is goi- going on? What am I?” The shuffling in the background interrupted them. The blue-eyed man moved closer to her in a defensive stance. Tori only stared, trying to figure out what was going on “Do you know how to drive?” he asked, “What? No, i-” a low growl erupted from the woods. It was menacing, it was deathly. Tori swallowed as her hands clutched the bottle in her hands. “What was that?” “Rouge Werewolves out for your head and mine at this point,” he moved his arms away, revealing a set of knuckle claws. They glistened under the moonlight, sharp and dangerous. “So we are going to do this two ways,” he said, urging her to move closer to him. “You cover your eyes and ears, or you let me carry you.” “Why-” her answers cut short in her throat when a large beast, big and hairy, jumped out in the open, its dark eyes blaring with death. “Satori! Your hands now!” The blue-eyed man yelled at her, and she dashed forward at the same time the wolf launched at them. Without hesitation, Satori raised her hands to cover her head from the terror approaching, but only loud whimpering filled the night. “Bloody hell.” The blue-eyed man cursed gently, and Satori opened her eyes. “Your hands are doing a lot of damage, best wear this- it'll stop you from tearing me to shreds. ” He tossed her a bracelet made of dark metal. The edges were carved and laced with small purple gemstones that sparkled. Tori looked at the unfortunate creature, unalived on the ground. Her lips trembled at what she had done. If what the blue-eyed man was saying is true, then this place would not be safe for her or those around her. No one would miss her; her stepfather would be glad she's gone. She had almost hurt Nora and Zain, even if they had hurt her first. The fear in their eyes was an image she wasn't going to forget easily. ……………………………......................................................................................................................................................................... In the high towers of the east building, a woman stood by the tall windows watching the storm from a distance. “Tell me, isn't it ironic that when the mark shows, a storm brews in the distance. Even the earth knows what's coming to it.” She turned around, her golden eyes lightening from the shadows. “We need to get the girl.” A masculine voice said impatiently. The woman only laughed. She understood him; the girl was important for what they had to do. “Patience Edgar, our people at the academy are awaiting her arrival, and the boy, he’d be of great use, that even Constantine won’t be able to see it coming.” “You want to trust the boy to get her?” Edgar said with clear disagreement in his tone. “Do you think he'd do it after everything?” “Trust me, Edgar. He won't have a choice.”
