Chapter Three: Welcome to Redgate. The opening of the large gates caught her attention, it seemed to go farther and higher the closer they got. “Welcome to Redgate Academy.” The man said that as the car entered the compound, the roads were lined up with neatly trimmed trees, and in between were concrete men, each wearing a hat. The castle was larger than anything she had seen, the walls firm like gorilla glue. They climbed out of the car, and a woman with pointy ears and black eyes walked up to them. “Grey, you are late,” she said through tight lips, passing glances at Satori, who was still taking in her surroundings. “I'm here now, aren't I?” he replied and turned to Satori. “Tori, she’d be taking you to your dormitory so that you can rest. Later in the day, you'd see the principal.” Tori stared at him with questions in her eyes. “Here is safe, no one can hurt you here,” he affirmed. His eyes darted to the bracelet on her wrist. “Also, you may want to take that off when you're about to go to bed.” Tori eyed the bracelet again and nodded slowly, reluctantly following after Gwen. They walked to the main doors, which parted open on their own. The interior was adorned with silence as they walked past two men stationed by the door. The building looked larger from the inside than she had expected. The ceilings were hung with chandeliers and paintings that she couldn't comprehend. They walked through another hallway before Gwen halted in front of a statue, which was of a woman mounted on a horse. “Der.” Her soft voice whispered through the statue, and a low rumble echoed before the statue moved, leading into a closed end. With creased brow,s she watched Gwen move into the cubicule. “Come now,” she followed, her mouth ready to ask questions when the cubicle moved backwards farther away from the statue. When the cubicle stopped moving, Gwen turned to Tori with a small smile. “There may be some students awake in the common room, don't indulge them until tomorrow when you're fully registered.” Tori nodded; she had no intention of speaking to anyone until she was settled in. True to Gwen’s word, there were a couple of people awake, and their eyes were fixated on her. She noticed a group of six people sitting around a round table, and the air around them was heavy with commanding authority. Her eyes locked with a pair of bright blue ones- in the dim light, she saw his face. His high cheekbones and strong gaze held her; they weren't friendly, instead, it was menacing. It was for a few seconds, but she caught his gaze raking over her face and then downwards- the only thing exposed was her collar bones. She adjusted her jacket and averted her gaze towards Gwen. Even as they disappeared up the stairs, she could still feel his hot gaze on the back of her neck. “Those are the Red council, the student leaders of the school. Each is a representative for each of the ranks.”Gwen enlightened as they walked further up the stairs. “The head is Ed, he's a vampire noble-” “The blue-eyed boy?” she inquired as they stopped in front of a wooden door. “Oh no, darling, that is Kairos. He's a werewolf and not one that likes people that much.” She pushed the door open, revealing a space with a bed to the left, a wardrobe to the far right and a study desk just beside the mirror. “This would be your room.” Tori walked in, her eyes sweeping over the books tucked in a shelf, “I’d come get you in 6 hours, there's a shower behind that door- you'd have what you need.” “Thank you-” Tori paused, not sure how she should address her. “Call me Ms. Gwen. Lock your doors, too. See you later, Satori.” After Gwen left her alone, Tori closed the door and, with tears in her eyes, she knelt to the ground, clutching her chest. “Mum, what is happening to me?” Her voice is drowned out by low sobs. “What am I turning into?” Her fingers graze the mark on her collar, and she has never noticed it until this night. Rising to her feet, she walked towards the mirror to check the marking. It was a crescent moon with silver scales inside. Her hair was a mess, and she snorted with a light chuckle. “Explains why blue eyes was staring at me,” she muttered, raking her fingers through her hair. She inspected the bracelet on her hands and then stared at her reflection in the mirror. “Who would've thought my life would turn out to be like this in under 6 hours?” she whispered, followed by a rumbling from nearby. She moved towards the window, even though the street lamps were lit, it wasn't enough to reveal all the dark spots. The lightning flashed again, and this time it caught something just below; even with her being far off, she saw the outline of the figure she had seen earlier. Another flashing light, and the figure was gone. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….................................................. Satori stared at the box in the middle of her room. The sharp thud had scared her awake. She couldn’t sleep even though she was safe, so many questions raced through her mind. The box that had appeared had a note with cursive writing on it, with a signature at the edge. Good morning, Satori. Here’s your uniform. Get dressed, you’d need to be ready in 40 minutes. Gwen. She did as she was asked; the hot water in the shower was what she needed. It had dampened her hair, and while she thought about the questions she would ask, she noticed the shampoo she had used was floating right next to her. It took her 30 minutes to be ready; she had blow-dried her hair, leaving it in its afro form. The uniform sat well on her body, the skirt stopping just below her thigh, the blazer was fitted, and the white button-up shirt covered her collar. She held the tie up in dismissal when Gwen walked in. “Great to see you fit into your uniform. Let’s go.” She tucked the tie in her pocket and followed. She had previously cleaned her boots and wore them instead of the loafers in the box. Unlike yesterday, the hallway was more crowded, and students wore the same clothing she had, only that they looked like they fit there. Several of them passed glances at her, and she returned them too; they were creatures with distinctive features. Pale skin, slim eyes, longer limbs, long ears, scaly arms, fangs. She missed her step and crashed into someone. “Oww,” she rubbed her arms as she stared up at the person. “Sorry, love, did I make you fall for me?” The voice said calmly, his tone was flirtatious, and his eyes deep with desire that she could get lost in them. “Orin, back off. You’d scare the poor girl.” Another guy said hitting the boy on the arm. He was about 6’2, with deep green eyes. Orin was the same height, but he had golden honey eyes and scales which flared on his skin but disappeared immediately. “I know she’s not scared, Ruel,” Orin said and moved closer to Tori, “I’m sure she feels safe. See you around Satori,” he gently kissed the back of her hand before walking away, leaving Tori dumbfounded. Who were they? And how did he know her name?
