Mum!!” Ayla said, but there was no response. “Where could this woman be?” Ayla thought. “Ayla, are you back?” Evelyn said. “Yes, ma,” Ayla said as she could recognize the voice. “Open the door,” Evelyn said. “Okay, ma,” Ayla said. She walked towards the direction of the door and opened it. “How are you, Ayla?” Evelyn said. “I not fine, ma,” Ayla said. “Your mum?!” Evelyn said. “Yes, I have been calling her since, I even dialed her phone number, but her phone was switched off,” Ayla said. “Your mum has been carried away by some unknown men,” Evelyn said. “What?! My mum?!” Ayla said and started sobbing. “You don’t have to do this; cheer up,” Evelyn said. “My mum has been carried away by unknown men and you want me to smile; no, I won’t,” Ayla said. “Do you have airtime on your mobile phone?” Evelyn said. “Yes, ma,” Ayla said and gave her mobile phone to Evelyn. Evelyn dialed professor MacPherson's phone number. “Hi, professor MacPherson!” Evelyn said. “Hi, Ayla! Is anything the problem?” professor MacPherson said. “This is Evelyn, not Ayla,” Evelyn said. “Oh! Evelyn! How are you?” professor MacPherson said. “I am not fine,” Evelyn said. “C'mon! What happened?” professor MacPherson said. “Your wife…,” Evelyn said and began to sob. “What happened to my wife?! Speak!” professor MacPherson said. “Your wife has been carried away by some men,” Evelyn said. “What?! When?!” professor MacPherson said. “Not quite long,” Evelyn said. “Who is crying there with you? ” professor MacPherson said. “It's Ayla,” Evelyn said. “Console her for me. Tell her daddy will do something,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright...,” Evelyn said. “How many men?” professor MacPherson said. “Five men; I guess the fifth man was the driver. A woman followed them too,” Evelyn said. “Could these be Charles and his gangsters? What have I done to them to warrant this treatment,” professor MacPherson thought. “Professor Macpherson..., are you there?” Evelyn said. “Sorry…, I think I know the men,” professor MacPherson said. “You do?! Please, do something very fast,” Evelyn said. “Alright, see you soon. Please, console my daughter for me,” professor MacPherson said. “Okay, I will; I have been doing that though,” Evelyn said, and cut the call. “Did daddy say anything?” Ayla said with curiosity. “Didn’t you eavesdrop on our conversation?” Evelyn said. “No, I didn’t,” Ayla said. “Okay; your daddy said he knows the men that took your mother away. So, cheer up! Daddy will do something,” Evelyn said. “Alright…,” Ayla said with a fake smile. “I admire your smiles, you know. Will you come over to my house for a meal?” Evelyn said. “I am not famished, ma,” Evelyn said. “Okay, if you insist. Don’t hesitate to come over to my house when you are famished,” Evelyn said. She stood up and walked towards the door.
