Ayla took the phone from the table. “Here is the phone, dad,” Ayla said as she handed over the phone to professor MacPherson. Professor Macpherson checked the screen of the phone and saw the caller. It was Peyton. “Good evening, Mrs. Peyton!” professor MacPherson said. “Good, evening, professor MacPherson. How are you doing today?” Peyton said. “I am fine; how about you?” Professor MacPherson said. “I am not bad,” Peyton said. “I hope everything is fine?” professor MacPherson said with curiosity. Peyton smiled and said, “ Everything is fine. I only called to let you know that Charles is back from the seminar.” “Alright…; thank you for letting me know. I will definitely be at your house tomorrow evening,” professor MacPherson said. “It’s okay, we will be expecting you,” Peyton said. “And please, tell Charles that I will be at your house tomorrow, so that he can remember me in his schedule,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, I will,” Peyton said. “Send my regards to Margaret. Goodbye!” professor MacPherson said. “Goodbye, sir,” Peyton said and hung up the call. “Who was that, dad?” Ayla said. “She is a wife to my friend, and I have an appointment with her husband tomorrow evening,” Professor MacPherson said. “Alright, dad. It means you won’t come home on time,” Ayla said. “I will sort things out very fast, so that I can come home early. Besides, I wouldn’t love to keep you perturbed,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, dad. It’s getting late already; can we go to Mason’s house now?” Ayla said. “Sure! There we go,” professor MacPherson said. Professor MacPherson and Ayla stood up from their couches. They walked towards the pithead and Ayla opened the door. Gently, they walked to Mason’s house. “Hello, is anyone at home?” professor MacPherson said when they were closer to Mason’s house entrance door. “Just some seconds!” Landon said and walked towards the pithead. He opened the door and said, “Good evening, sir.” “Hi, Landon,” Ayla said. “Good evening, Landon. I am here to see your dad,” professor MacPherson said. “Please, come in!” Landon said with a gesture. “Thank you,” professor MacPherson said. They entered the sitting room and sat down on a couch. “Hold on sir while I inform my dad,” Landon said, and Professor MacPherson nodded his head as if he had lost his vocal organ. Landon sauntered away from the sitting room. When he got to the door to Mason’s room, he said, “ Dad, are you awake?” “Yes, I am! What’s the problem?” Mason said. “Professor Macpherson and his daughter are here to see you!” Landon said behind the door. “Alright,” Mason said. “What should I tell them, dad?” Landon said with eagerness. “Just tell them I will join them in a jiffy! I have to wear trousers on these boxer shorts,” Mason said. “Alright, dad,” Landon said and sauntered away. Mason quickly wore long trousers, he wore a pair of slippers and walked out of the room. When he got to the sitting room, he could see Ayla sitting close to professor MacPherson on a couch and Landon sitting on another couch. “Good day, sir!” Mason said and walked closer to them. “How are you, Mason?” professor MacPherson said. Mason sat down beside Landon and said, “ I am fine, sir. How are you, Ayla?” “I am fine, sir, “ Ayla said. “Good. Professor MacPherson, how was today's work?” Mason said as he gazed at father and child who were sitting close together. “It was tedious, sir; but we thank God,” professor MacPherson said. “That’s good, sir,” Mason said. “Dad, I want to go and help Mrs. Evelyn in the kitchen,” Ayla, who had been preventing herself from looking at Landon, said. “Alright…,” professor MacPherson said. Ayla stood up from the couch and left the sitting room. “You can go to your room too, Landon,” Mason said. “Alright, dad,” Landon said and sauntered away from the sitting room. “Mason, I said I would see you when I come back from work and here I am,” professor MacPherson said. “Yes, sir,” Mason said as he nodded his head in affirmation. “Well, let me hit the nail on its head; you need to turn a new leaf,” professor MacPherson said and gazed at Mason’s face. “You mean I should change?” Mason said. “Yes, sir; and not only that. You must hold the olive branch with Evelyn and Landon,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, sir. Thank you very much,” Mason said. “You are welcome, sir. I guess you have a bachelor's degree in accounting?” professor MacPherson said. “Yes, I have a bachelor's degree,” Mason said. “The good news is that I have secured a job for you in my place of work as a junior lecturer of accounting,” professor MacPherson said. “Wow!!” Mason screamed and drew Evelyn’s attention. “What’s it, Mason?” Evelyn said as she rushed to the sitting room. “Professor Macpherson said he had found a job for me as a junior lecturer in his place of work,” Mason said exuberantly. “After all these years! Thank you, sir,” Evelyn said and tears ran down her face. “What’s it, Evelyn? Why are you crying?” Mason said. “I am only overwhelmed with joy,” Evelyn said. “I can see that…,” professor MacPherson said with a smile. “Thank you once again, professor MacPherson,” Evelyn said, and walked back to the kitchen. “I am very happy, sir; thank you for the gesture,” Mason said. “You are welcome. At least, the television will be restful from now onwards,” professor MacPherson said, and the dyad laughed. “Do you mind a cupful of water?” Mason said. “Yes, sir; I am not thirsty. Before I leave for the office tomorrow, make sure your credentials get to me,” professor MacPherson said and stood up from the couch. “Alright, sir; I will do just that. Are you leaving now?” Mason said as he gazed at professor MacPherson’s face. “Yes, sir. I need to have some rest…,” professor MacPherson said. “I was about switching on the television so that we can watch film before our food is ready,” Mason said. “I don’t think there is need for that, Mason. I have to rest now. Tell Ayla to meet me at home,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, sir. Can I at least see you off?” Mason said. “That won’t be necessary, sir; thank you very much,” professor MacPherson said. “Alright, sir. Goodnight!” Mason said. “Goodnight, Mason! No nightmare…,” professor MacPherson said. He sauntered towards the entree, pulled the door and it went open.
