Landon was sitting beside Mason on the couch, the youngster was flipping and glancing through the pages of a photo book. “Well done, father and child,” Evelyn said. Mason raised his head up and said, “Thank you, Evelyn. Since you said I listen to news on the television too often, I have resolved to read newspapers.” “That’s very good,” Evelyn said. Landon raised his head up, he fixed his gaze on the basket in Evelyn’s right hand. “Where are you going to, mum?” Landon said. “Son, I am not here for you; keep glancing through the book. Mason, I am going over to professor MacPherson’s house. I need to give Ayla her lunch,” Evelyn said. “It's alright; extend my regards to her,” Mason said, and faced the newspapers. “Alright…, I will,” Evelyn said. She sauntered towards the direction of the pithead, opened the door and left. “Oh, my God; the sun radiation is intense,” Evelyn said when she was almost close to professor MacPherson’s house. When Evelyn got to professor MacPherson’s house, she knocked on the door twice and said, “ Open this door, Ayla.” “Hold on, I am coming...,” Ayla said. Before this time, Ayla had been watching films . She left the film and walked towards the pithead. She pulled the door and it went open. “Good afternoon, ma,” Ayla said. “Good afternoon, Ayla. I have brought something for you to eat,” Evelyn said. Ayla smiled and said, “Thank you, ma. The film made me forget that I haven’t eaten.” “Then you must minimize the time you spend watching films,” Evelyn said. “Alright, ma,” Ayla said. “Here in this basket is a plateful of spaghetti,” Evelyn said and handed the basket to Ayla. “Thank you, ma!” Ayla said as she collected the basket from Evelyn. “You are welcome. The radiation from the sun is intense, let me rush back home,” Evelyn said. “Alright, ma. We will be coming over to your house when dad comes back from work,” Ayla said. “Alright, I am excited,” Evelyn said with a smile. “Goodbye, ma,” Ayla said. “Goodbye,” Evelyn said and walked away. Ayla closed the door and walked towards the electronics, she switched them off and walked to the dining room. When she got to the dining room, she placed the basket on the table and sat down on a seat. She removed a plate from the basket and uncovered it. “This looks delicious!” She muttered and carried a spoonful of spaghetti. Evelyn pushed the door and it went open. She walked towards Mason and Landon. “I am back, Mason,” she said. “Welcome, Evelyn. Please, come and sit down,” Mason said with a gesture. “Thank you, Mason,” Evelyn said, and sat on one of the vacant couches. “I guess you've given her the food?” Mason said. “Yes, Mason. She was so engrossed in watching the film that she forgot she hadn't taken anything,” Evelyn said. “That’s hilarious. I guess she will eat something now? Did you meet professor MacPherson at home?” Mason said. “No, I didn’t; I guess he hasn’t returned from work,” Evelyn said and sighed. “Alright. You look tired. I would love you to take a nap,” Mason said. “I am off to the bedroom,” Evelyn said and stood up. “Alright, Evelyn,” Mason said. As Evelyn sauntered away from the sitting room, Landon said, “Mum, make sure you don’t sleep too long, so that you can start the cooking on time.” “You can start the cooking if I don’t wake up on time!” Evelyn said with a faint voice. “You've not trained me to be a cook, mum!” Landon said, but Evelyn couldn’t hear him anymore. “And who will eat the food made by you?” Mason said. “Everyone, dad,” Mason said. “I doubt it, 'cos I can never eat food prepared by you,” Mason said, and fixed his gaze on Landon’s face to see his reaction. “That’s unfair, dad,” Landon said. Manson continued reading the newspapers while Landon continued flipping the pages of the photo book.
