Stop that!!” the senior palace guard, Dean, said and walked to the gate. As soon as the guard opened the gate, Adalyn came in and wanted to run into the palace, but was prevented by the guard. Dean knew that Adalyn was traumatized. He said, "Young lady, what happened?” “I am a shattered woman; I am here to show myself to the king before I finally strangle myself,” Adalyn said. “I am sorry for anything you may be passing through, but I don’t suggest suicide as an option. You should have waited for the morning before coming here, the king is already asleep, Dean said. “Guard!! Leave me alone!! Let me see my king!!” Adalyn said. “I am sorry, you cannot see the king now,” Dean said. Adalyn refused to yield to Dean. She screamed to the extent that everyone could hear her voice clearly within the palace. The king sauntered out of his bed chamber to the inner chamber and sat on his throne. “Leo!! Leo!! Come here!!” King Rehoboth said. “I am here, my king!” one of the Junior palace guards, Leo, said as he walked towards the king. “What’s happening within the palace? I can hear a woman’s voice,” King Rehoboth said. “I heard her voice too; I was about to check what was happening before you called me,” Leo said. “Go and check now and report back to me!” King Rehoboth said. “Alright, my king,” Leo said and walked out. “My king, why are you awake?” King Rehoboth’s first wife, Mackenzie, said and sat down. “I heard a hurting woman's voice, so I couldn’t sleep again,” King Rehoboth said. “I heard that too, but I thought it was a minor thing,” queen Mackenzie said. Leo walked back to the inner chamber, he said, “My king, the woman has refused to go; she said she would love to see you now." “Is she mad?! How can she be so adamant? Go and tell her that she should come back in the morning, that’s if she has any relevant thing to say,” Queen Mackenzie said and grimaced. “Alright, my queen,” Leo said, and took two steps backwards. “No!! Tell Dean to allow her in; her voice shows she is hurt,” King Rehoboth said. “Okay, King Rehoboth,” Leo said, and walked out. Leo walked to the gate and told Dean the king’s wish. Dean had no option than to accede to the king’s wish. Leo and Adalyn walked into the palace. “Here is she, my king,” Leo said. “Long live my king!!” Adalyn said and knelt down. “You can go now, Leo. May the ancestors bless you, woman. Your voice tells even the deaf that you are agitated and distressed; what’s it, woman?” King Rehoboth said. “Thank you, my king! Who am I to stand before you and my distinguished queen? You may not know me, or do you?” Adalyn said. “No!! I don’t! Who are you?” King Rehoboth said. “My name is Adalyn. I enjoyed a restful marriage until my husband's 30th birthday. My husband’s name is Louise, “ Adalyn said. “I don’t know any Louise from this part of the world; my queen, do you?” King Rehoboth said. “No, my king,” queen Mackenzie said. “You do, my king. Do you remember Gilbert and two other men that were killed at a birthday party?” Adalyn said. “I think I can remember. How is Louise connected to that?” King Rehoboth said, perturbed. “Thank you, my king. It was during my husband’s birthday party that Gilbert and two other people were killed,” Adalyn said. “Oh, No!! Where is your husband now?” King Rehoboth said. “Ever since we have gotten…,” Adalyn said and queen Mackenzie cut in. She said, "The king didn’t ask you for a c**k and a bull story!! The king said, where is your husband?” “My queen, let her talk, she is a worried woman. At least, she would be somewhat relieved after she had poured out everything on her mind. Adalyn, speak!! The king hears!!” King Rehoboth said. “Thank you, my king!! My husband bought land as an upfront gift for my birthday. Like a light-hearted man he was, he disclosed his new win to his colleagues at his place of work without knowing that there were wolves in human clothing,” Adalyn said gently. “What happened afterwards?” King Rehoboth said. “My king, could you believe that a man I trusted stole the new land document?” Adalyn said. “What?! King Rehoboth and queen Mackenzie chorused. “Yes, monarchs. My husband got to know about the theft when me and my daughter returned from Colorado. We needed attestation for the new land, so, Louise took us to the master room. But when we got there, we couldn’t see the document again. Since this happened when me and my daughter were not around, Louise couldn’t trace the theft to us. However, the retentive man he was made him remember the day he organized a mini-party between himself and his friend, Professor MacPherson. He told professor MacPherson to return the land document, but professor MacPherson said the land document was not with him. The case got to the vice Chancellor of the institution where the two of them worked. The vice Chancellor gave professor Louise and professor MacPherson a four weeks’ suspension with no salary and told them to sort out the problem at hand, else, they would lose their job,” Adalyn said. “Is that all? I haven’t gotten anything reasonable from all you’ve said,” King Rehoboth said. “You called for the long story, my king; I wanted to chide this woman, but you refused,” queen Mackenzie said and grimaced. “Woman!! Speak on!!” King Rehoboth said. “Thank you, my king. Professor MacPherson later told my husband that he stole the land document. We didn’t know that the professor was up to something. Some witnesses told me that professor MacPherson sent some armed and masked men to the Golden inn where my husband’s 30th birthday party took place. The armed men killed Gilbert, who told them he was Louise, and they killed two other men. After the incident, Louise changed his place of work and we changed our residence too,” Adalyn said. “Be fast woman!!” King Rehoboth said. “My husband went to a plaza days ago and didn’t return. However, just this evening, I saw my husband's dead body under our matrimonial bed,” Adalyn said amid weeping. “Stop weeping!! Woman!!” King Rehoboth said. “It has not ended there, my king; some unknown gangsters also killed a lot of people in our street; the people's remains are littered around the street. My only daughter is dead too. I am doomed, my king,” Adalyn said and continued weeping. “It’s okay, woman!!” King Rehoboth said. He stood up and consoled Adalyn. “Be silent woman, the king will do something about this,” queen Mackenzie consoled too. “Woman, you cannot go home now, it’s dark already. The queen will take you to the visitors' room. In the morning, you shall take me to your house,” King Rehoboth said. “Okay…, my king,” Adalyn said and sobbed.
