Aubrey was clutching her bag while Sadie was clutching a small purse. They sauntered towards the direction of the pithead. On the wall of the building was an inscription “Master Multipurpose Hall.” When Aubrey and Sadie got into the hall, they could see a great crowd of people. The hall was filled with people so that it would be difficult for one to pick up his money when it falls on the floor by mistake. Sadie and Aubrey were ushered to two seats. “Mum, you didn’t wear a white shirt on a black skirt,” Sadie said when mother and child were about to sit down. “Aubrey sat and said, “ You didn’t tell me that the audience are to put on a white shirt and a black trouser or skirt as the case may be,” Aubrey said as she gazed at Sadie’s face. “It escaped my memory, mum, though it was stated on the invitation card. I am sorry, mum,” Sadie said. “Well, I am not dressed shabbily; or am I?” Aubrey said. “No, mum,” Sadie said. “You’ve dressed well, ma; besides, everyone is not putting on a white shirt and black trousers,” a man sitting close to Sadie, who had been eavesdropping on mother and child's conversations, said. “Thank you, sir!” Aubrey and Sadie chorused. The Master of Ceremony (MC) walked towards the dais. Close to the dais was a panel of judges and on the walls of the hall were inscriptions like “William’s Foundation Music Contest”, “Non-Governmental Organization”, “Young Adults' Era”, “America Got Talents”, “Let Song Leads” and the host of others. “Hello…, everyone!” MC said. “Hi, sir!” the audience said. “Permit me to invite the presence of God the Father, God the son and God the holy spirit,” MC said and the audience clapped. MC continued, “Before we start anything, we have to pray. Join me as I welcome the co-pioneer of William’s Foundation Music Contest, in the person of Mrs. William as she gives us the opening prayer.” The audience clapped as Mrs. William sauntered to the dais. MC. bowed as he gave the microphone to Mrs. William. Mrs. William collected the microphone and started, “ Let’s close our eyes for prayer. Father, we exalt your name. Thank you for this seldom grace to be gathered here today. We are about to start the program; we seek your presence. At the end of today, we shall have the reasons to glorify your name. In Jesus’ name we have prayed.” “Amen!!” the audience chorused. Mrs. William gave the microphone back to the MC. “A round of applause for Mrs. William as she saunters back to her seat,” MC said and paused for the audience to clap. “It’s okay, I hope we are all set to clap our hands?” MC said. “Yes, we are!!” the audience said. “Alright. I will be inviting some dignitaries to the high table now,” MC said. “Alright, sir!!” the audience said with curiosity. The dignitaries sauntered to the direction of the high table as the MC called their names. The audience honored them and clapped their hands. “It’s alright people. On this occasion of William’s Foundation Music Contest, the 7th edition to be precise, it is time to recite the United States of America's national anthem, our star-spangled banner. Everyone should maintain a standing posture,” MC said. The audience stood up and everyone recited the American national anthem. “Good. You can sit down now! I appreciate the presence of the personalities at the high table, the panel of judges, the contestants, and I acknowledge everyone’s presence. I trust we will have a fun-filled day. Now, let all the contestants come out and sit on these vacant seats in my front,” MC said with a gesture and paused. As the contestants sauntered forward, the audience clapped their hands and screamed for joy; the orchestra displayed too. The contestants were dressed in blue shirts and black skirts or trousers, as the case may be. They also put on wrist watches and they appeared neatly. They all occupied the front seats. “Decorum, please! Now, without wasting our time, let’s start the event properly. Here are the dos and don'ts of the event, and I want you to listen to them painstakingly,” MC said and paused to look at the contestants' faces. He then continued. “Firstly, the time allotted to everyone is 2 minutes, so at the end of the 2 minutes, the bell would be giggled by the panel of judges. So, learn how to use your time well. Secondly, the way you dress may give you some points; so, make sure you are groomed. Thirdly, nobody is given a second chance. You get it once or you leave it. Fourthly, this implies to everyone, both the contestants and the audience. Make sure you clap for a contestant as he saunters forward. And lastly, we won’t tolerate any noise, backlash and the host of others. A round of applause for contestant one as he saunters forward; in the person of Master Miles!” Master Miles sauntered forward amid the shouts and claps. He climbed the dais and collected the microphone with his head bowed. “Your time starts now!” MC said before he handed over the microphone to Miles. Miles cleared his throat and sang the song, “Love Story by Taylor Swift.” It’s of no doubt that Swift wrote the song based on a real guy she was dating. Her family disapproved, inspiring her to base the song on the most famous “love story” of all, “Romeo and Juliet,” but this time with a happy ending. After Miles had sang the song for about two minutes with passion and gestures, one of the judges, Avery, giggled the bell and Miles had to stop. The audience clapped and screamed as Miles gave the microphone to the MC.
