The car hooted and one of the security guards opened the gate. The car moved out through the gate. “Mason, Ayla would have missed you,” Evelyn said from the front seat after Mrs. Anthony had driven the car for about 5 minutes. “I miss her too and want to see her,” Mason said from the back seat. “Mason, Ayla and Landon send their regards to you and Evelyn often,” Mrs. Anthony said as the car made a U-turn. “That’s nice of the youngsters!” Evelyn said. “I am quite disappointed in Landon. He made me go through these messes,” Mason said grimly. “There you go again. You caused everything and you ought not to blame others. The juvenile couldn’t behold how you maltreated me,” Evelyn said, and turned her neck backwards. “You are right, Evelyn. I am sorry for what transpired between us and I am making a promise to change from now onwards,” Mason said. “I hope you will change; you are a man with raw talents. You have to make use of talents,” Evelyn said. “Alright, Evelyn. Thank you for staying with me when I needed you most,” Mason said. “Don’t mention it,” Evelyn said. “I am sorry to chip in. Mason, I thank God for your new resolutions and I pray you will not go back to your vomit,” Mrs. Anthony said. “My sister, that’s worth praying for because Mason has a soft heart,” Evelyn said, and everyone laughed. “You have started again, Evelyn. We need to be silent as Mrs. Anthony drives the car. You don't need to be on my back again!” Mason said, and Evelyn laughed. “It’s okay, people; I hope we get home soon,” Mrs. Anthony said. Mrs. Anthony continued driving the car and at exactly 7:32 pm, they got to Mason’s house. The trio alighted from the car and walked towards Mason’s house entrance door. When they were closer to the door, Evelyn knocked at the door twice. “Where could this boy be? Landon! Landon!” Evelyn said, but Landon didn’t show up. “He must be asleep by now,” Mrs. Anthony said. “What sort of sleep could that be?” Mason said and knocked on the door harder. Landon could hear the knocks emanating from the door; he stood up from the bed and walked to the sitting room with no hesitation. “I am coming! Hold on!” Landon said when he was closer to the entrance door. “The youngster is here…,” Mrs. Anthony said. Landon opened the door and saw Mason, Evelyn and Mrs. Anthony. “Welcome, dad! Welcome Mum! Good evening, Mrs. Anthony” Landon said. “Good evening, Landon; what kept you so long? We've been standing here knocking since,” Mrs. Anthony said. “I am sorry; I was already asleep. The knocks interfered with my sleep,” Landon said grimly. “It's okay; we are sorry for that,” Mrs. Anthony said. Landon collected the food flak Evelyn was holding with her left hand and walked away. “Mrs. Anthony, you've done enough today and you need to go home now, so that you can rest,” Evelyn said. “You are right, Evelyn,” Mrs. Anthony said with a smile. “Thank you, Mrs. Anthony and send my regards to your husband when you get home,” Mason said. “Alright, Mason; I will. Please, take care of yourself,” Mrs. Anthony said. “Alright. I am feeling drowsy already,” Mason said. “The drowsiness is everywhere. Goodnight!” Mrs. Anthony said. “Goodnight, Mrs. Anthony!” Evelyn and Mason said. Mrs. Anthony walked to where she parked her car, she sat on the front seat and drove the car away gently. Evelyn and Mason walked to the sitting room, they sat down on the couch. Landon was already sitting on one of the couches and was gazing at the empty mug on the table. “How are you, dad?” Landon said. “I am fine after you've altered my being,” Mason said. “I am sorry, dad. I couldn’t behold how you maltreated mum, so I had to do what I did. Please, forgive me and I promise to be the Patriot you love me to become,” Landon said with a quavering voice. “There is no need to cry, Landon; you've done what every child who has a heart for his mum would do,” Landon said and stood up from the couch he was sitting on. He sat beside Landon on a couch and held Landon's right hand. “Thank you for your understanding,” Landon said and smiled. “You are welcome, son,” Mason said. “I love the intimacy between father and son, though I am becoming jealous,” Evelyn said as she clapped and everyone laughed. “You can be jealous. Who cares in the first place? Landon, do we?” Mason said and glimpsed at Landon’s face. “No, dad,” Landon said. “Landon, you are not serious. Have you eaten?” Evelyn said. “Yes, Mum; Mrs. Anthony gave me a plateful of rice, but I miss your food,” Landon said. “Don’t worry, son; mum is back again. She would give you the best food she can,” Evelyn said. “I trust my mum,” Landon said. “Everywhere is restful now and we need not to disturb the peace that had dominated the street. I want to go to my room now,” Mason said, and stood up from the couch he was sitting on. “There we go,” Evelyn said and stood up from the couch. “Goodnight, Dad! Goodnight, mum!” Landon said. “Goodnight, Landon, and no nightmare,” Evelyn said. Evelyn and Mason left the sitting room for their bedroom while Landon left the sitting room for his.
