Chapter 4, My Muse! Iris's POV I could not believe that I had knocked over Danny the drums and everyone else in the band when Keith startled me when he walked in. He took me by surprise was all. I was not expecting him right away. I did not mean to run off like I had on him. I sigh as I lean on the front door. Emily would be running back home to see why I had taken off like I had. How was I going to ever face Keith or Laurie again? I was an utter disgrace to them all. I could not properly function about Keith. He had been my muse. My inspiration for such a long time. I had built him up in my head and now what? How hard was it to say hello? Nice to meet you? Apparently for me it was impossible to be done. ♡♪♬♪♡ "Iris, I thought you were going to sing for Rueben today and Mrs. Partridge? Why are you home so early?" mom asks me. "They were going to have you over for dinner to" "Mom I can't ever show my face there again. Do not make me go over there ever" I mutter. "What did you do? What happened?" she sighs. I tell her everything. Then my face turns red. "Honey that is not that bad" she laughs. She was trying to stop herself from laughing at me. "Mom it was not funny" I argue with her. The doorbell rings. "I am not here" I stammer. I rush up the stairs. Then I hide around the corner up the stairs. Mom answers the door. "Hello, Miss Steele. I brought Emily back for you both" Keith was here at my house. My heart races at the thought. Making my head spin. "Mom where is Iris?" asks Emily. "She is not around" mom tells her. "I sent her to the store" mom lies for me. "Oh, to bad I was hoping to talk to her" Keith tells mom. "She is home! I see her up the stairs! Iris!" calls out Emily. Now my face is really red. The little brat. "Hi I am still here" I mutter softly at the top of the stairs. "Emily want to go run to the store real fast with mom?" mom asks my sister. "Yes" Emily tells her. They head on their way. I manage to make my way down the stairs to Keith without falling over myself. ♡♪♬♪♡ "Hi there" he softly says as he smiles at me. "Hi" I make myself say. "I am sorry I scared you back there" he chuckles. "I am sorry I made a fool out of myself" I sigh. "Laurie explained. I get it your shy. It can be hard to meet new people" he sweetly says. "It is a lot to get used to" I admit. He goes to shake my hand. "Let's start over. Hi I am Keith Partridge. You are new here?" "Yes, I am. My name is Iris Steele. From Michigan" I say as I shyly take his hand in mine. His hand cups over mine. Large in my small one. Protective like as he shakes my hand. His touch was warm. Welcoming. I quickly take my hand back. "Pleasure to meet you" I say to him. "Why is it hard to sing in front of me?" he asks me. I wish he hand not asked me this.... "It is hard in general. Back home I knew all my friends in school. I freeze up. Get nervous. I can't focus. And I will be honest....your family is my favorite band. I could not believe it when mom said she grew up with your mom. And we were moving here" I giggle. "Have you ever been nervous to meet your favorite singers?" I ask him. "Once, I came close to meeting Michael Jackson backstage. But the crowd gathered fast. I did not get to meet him. But I saw him. I was in aw of him. I understand that" he tells me. He was easy going to talk with. ♡♪♬♪♡ "That must have been something" I say. "It sure was. Can I say something?" he asks. I nod. "Certainly" "I heard you singing. And you have a gift. You have a lovely voice" he informs me. I blush with pride. "Thank you that means a lot to me. I love to sing. My grandmother used to sing. I get it from her" I explain. "Rueben is dying to manage you. But he worries about your shyness" he admits. I nod. "I get that. Let me work on the school choir then we can go from there" I say with a smile. "Would your family like to join us all for dinner as we planned?" he asks me. His eyes sparkled. He was so much more handsome in person then on tv. "Yes, I would enjoy that very much" I answer. I leave a note for my mom. "She already headed over there. They did not go to the store" he tells me. "I should have known" I laugh. He escorts me back over to his place. Mom and Emily were already over there. Everyone was waiting on me to join them for dinner. "I saved you a seat beside me" Danny lets me know with a grin. "Thank you" I tell him. I sit beside him. Keith sits on the other side of me. Danny does not look pleased about it. "Did you work it all out?" Laurie asks with a wink. "I think so" I say with a nod. "I hope you will all like dinner tonight. I am so glad we have this chance to get together" says Keith's mom. "I used to hang out with your mom all the time. The slumber parties" she laughs. "We have had so many good times. Now our kids will grow up together" adds mom. ♡♪♬♪♡ Keith steals a glance my way. I smile then he smiles back. We begin to eat dinner. I try to talk as much as I could. I was still so shy and nervous. But it was subsiding. Thanks to Keith reaching out to me. Then Mrs. Partridge served us dessert. She made us a lovely chiffon cake. It was better than the store-bought cakes. I was impressed. We were chatting. Mrs. Partridge and my mom were singing as Danny played songs for them. "I am so glad things worked out now" Laurie tells me. "Thanks, things take time. I will be alright" I tell Laurie. "I know I am going to love living here" "We are glad you moved here" Keith replies. Then smiles. That really made me smile. "I am glad we did to" I tell him. New friendships. New beginnings' for us. ♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡♪♬♪♡
