Chapter 3, Dear Me!
Keith's POV
I could not figure this all out. I had met this Iris's cute little sister. Who seemed to talk her up a lot. And then I met her mother.
Each chance I came close to meeting the mysterious Iris, she was never around. Was she avoiding me? Did she not like me? Or my music? Had Laurie already gotten to her and told her that I was awful. That she should not date me? That was not fair.
But that was something Laurie would do to me. She tended to warn her friends about me. Then they would not give me a second glance. And the fabulous Keith Partridge was without a date.
Our manager was curious about Miss Iris to. It seemed she could sing. Her mother talked all about the shows she had performed in back in Michigan. I was wanting to see if she would sing in the band with us.
So I could meet her and hear her sing in person.
If she would ever allow me to get near her. Yesterday I got a glance of her beauty. Mom and I were coming home from the taco stand in town and had dinner.
Iris was going home with Emily. She flashed a pretty smile and waved at least. She had beautiful dark eyes and hair. She was about as tall as me. She could be a model she was so pretty.
I sigh. Maybe I could offer her a ride to school with Laurie and myself? Would she go for that?

"Mom says come down for breakfast before it gets cold" Danny bursts into my room.
I jump a bit alarmed. "Don't you ever knock?" I grumble. I was in a bad mood.
"What is with you?" wonders Danny.
"Tell me has Laurie poisoned Iris against me already?" I wonder.
"Huh?"
Danny looked confused.
"Has Laurie told Iris I am a player? A ladies man? Is that why she has not met me yet?" I wonder.
"No"
"Then what is it? Why am I the only one she has not met?" I have to know.
"If you must know she has a thing for me" Danny brags.
I burst out laughing. "You are kidding me"
"No so does her little sister" sighs Danny.
"That I can believe" I chuckle.
"Come down for breakfast boys" orders Laurie from downstairs.
"Coming" calls Danny.
We head downstairs.

"What was taking you both so long?" mom wonders.
"We were talking about Iris. How Keith is the only one she has not met yet" Danny tells everyone. We sit down at the kitchen table.
"Maybe she can spot a rat from across the street" giggles Laurie.
"Shut up" I mutter.
"She wants to meet Keith" says Chris.
"How would you know?" I ask.
"She is shy" adds Tracy.
"Oh?"
"Emily told us" Tracy informs me. "she does not hate you"
"Good" I sigh. We eat breakfast. "should we ask her if she wants a ride to school?" I ask Laurie.
"I do not see why not" Laure agrees.
After we eat, Laurie and I go over next door to offer a ride to Iris. I nervously ring the doorbell. Her mom answers.
"Hello kids what can I do for you?" asks her mom.
"We were wondering if Iris would care to ride to school with us?" wonders Laurie.
"She would love to but she rode her bike already today" her mom tells us.
"Oh, I see. Thanks" I sigh. We head on our way then drive to school.
"Iris is a very shy person. Once she gets used to everything give her time to settle in. I am sure you two will be fast friends. She is wonderful" brags Laurie.
"I hope so. I never had a girl avoid me so soon" I admit.
"Have a good day brother. You may see her today. She is going to be in our choir class today" Laurie reminds me.
"That is right! And we can hear her sing" I exclaim. That gave me an excited feeling.
"Right" Laurie tells me.

We head into our school. Then I could not wait for choir. It was our last class of the day. The day seemed to go bye so slowly to.
Then I was early for choir. Mrs. Bichard was thrilled I was early. I was to help her play the panino for the class today. I have a flock of girls surrounding me asking me what tempo they sang best at. And if I thought they were a good singer. I got this every week.
"I told you last week Amy you are a alto. You can't hit those high notes" I remind Amy Weeks.
"But I get a sore throat when I do" mutters Amy.
"Sing the way I showed you." I remind her.
"Yes Keith" says Amy as she bats her eyes at me. "Anything you say"
Laurie made a gagging face at me. Then rolled her eyes and made me laugh. The bell rang. All the girls went to their places. Was Iris there? I scan my head to see if I could spot her in the crowd.
"Keith here are the new songs we will do this spring concert" says Mrs. Bichard. She places music in front of me.
"Alright" I say. "are we all here?"
"Sorry I am late. I was trying to find this class and I am new" I hear a soft voice say in a rush.
My head whips up. I see her. Iris Steele. My heart leaps in my throat. I could not take my eyes off her. Her eyes meet mine. She had a deep blue eyes or were they brown?
Maybe hazel they changed a bit. Her hair was a dark brown. She had blue eyes. She had yet to smile. Or move. She looked like a deer in a headlight with a car right in front of her.
She was a stunning creature.

"You must be our new student. All the way from Michigan. Miss Iris Steele! I heard about all the awards. It was in your transcript. I cannot wait to hear that voice of yours" brags Mrs. Bichard. She shakes hands with Iris. "Have a place over there and stand beside Amy" our teacher tells her.
Then Iris whispers something to our teacher.
"Oh, if you can't sing today that is alright dear. You will have time" she tells her.
Iris glances at me then winces. I glance over at Laurie. She did hate me. Right? She could not sing in front of me. What was the deal? Laurie shurgs. Then smiles at me.
"Keith begin to play that song I gave you" instructs our teacher.
By the end of class the girls flocked around me. All but Iris of course. I was disappointed about that one. I see Laurie talking to her. I sigh. I was frustrated. Then the bell rings.
"I have to go girls see ya" I tell the crowd. Then I go to see Laurie. And then Iris was already out of there.
"Do not be upset. I invited her over to practice with us. She said yes" says Laurie.
"You are the best" I brag.
I was happy now.
"I know" answers Laurie. She grins.
We head home. It was practice day. Reuben was there to hear us. And beautiful Iris was coming over soon. I rush up to my room when I got home. Changed my clothing. Added some after shave to smell better. I had gym that day to. Then I rush back downstairs.
"Keith before practice get me some potatoes at the store they are going with our dinner" orders mom.
"Can I get them after practice?" I ask.
"No get them now..." she orders.
"Fine..." I grumble.
She hands me money. I get going to my car then rush into town. I get the veggie for mom. And rush back home. Iris was probably there. When I pull in the drive way I hear music playing. They were playing "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do"

"Remember when you held me tight? And you kissed me all through the night?" that was a girl singing. Iris was singing with the band. I trip on a rock in the drive way. Then drop the food out of the bag. I stumble to get it.
"Now I know I know that it is true, I wish that we were making up again" she sings with the back ground singers. She was groovy. I rush in there.
Then right as the song was ending and everyone was smiling dancing. She turns around to see me there. She has that deer in headlights look on her face again.
I go to shake her hand once the song was over. A smile on my face. Then she trips on the plug. Then knocks into Danny. Knocking over the drums.
"I am sorry. I am so sorry" she exclaims. Her face is all red. Then before I can say another word, she bolts out of there.
I almost got to meet Iris properly. She hated me. It was clear.
