(Season 1)
CHAPTER 48
The witch's words hung in the air like a challenge. Lara's eyes narrowed, her grip on reality tightening.
"I'm willing to risk it." Her voice was a low, steady growl. "What's the spell?"
The witch's gaze lingered, searching for doubt, but found only determination.
"The spell is: 'Tenebris ex anima'. You must speak it with conviction, and be prepared to surrender to the darkness."
Lara's lips formed the words silently, her mind racing with the implications. The pain, the risk, it all faded into the background as she nodded. "I'll do it."The witch smiled, her eyes gleaming with a mix of curiosity and concern.
"Very well. To cast the spell, you'll need to find the Nexus Stone in Ravenswood. It's hidden deep within the Shadow Sanctum, guarded by creatures of the night and shadows that will kill to protect it."She handed Lara a small, intricately carved wooden box.
"This contains a map to the Sanctum. But be warned, the shadows in Ravenswood are not to be trifled with. You'll need to be prepared to face your darkest fears."Lara took the box, her fingers closing around it like a lifeline.
"I'm ready." Her eyes locked onto the witch's. "Let's do this." The witch's face was a map of ancient lines, her eyes pools of wisdom and warning.
"The Nexus Stone is not just a tool, child. It's a key. A key that can unlock the very fabric of life and death. Are you prepared to wield it?"Lara's grip on the box tightened.
"I just want Kalen back."The witch nodded, a small, knowing smile playing on her lips.
"Then you must first face the Shadow Keeper. He guards the Sanctum, and he'll demand a price for passage. A memory, a truth, or a promise. Are you willing to pay?"Lara hesitated, the weight of the unknown settling in. But her mind flashed to Kalen's smile, his touch, and her resolve hardened.
"I'll pay whatever it takes."The witch's smile grew wider, her eyes glinning with a hint of approval.
"Very well, child. The Shadow Keeper awaits. But remember, once you give him what he wants, there's no taking it back."She waved her hand, and the air in front of them shimmered, revealing a path into the darkness. The scent of damp earth and decay wafted out, making Lara's stomach twist.
"One last thing," the witch whispered, her voice barely audible. "The Shadow Keeper is not one to be trifled with. He'll try to take what's most precious to you. Don't let him take Kalen's memory. Most importantly you have to come back before the red moon comes out. "Lara's eyes locked onto the witch's, a spark of determination igniting within her. She stepped into the darkness, and vanished.

Time past quickly and the time for the red moon draws near. The Limited time that was given to Lara draws near, but no sign of her...... But the witch was certained that Lara would make it. Few more minutes, Lara appeared. The witch smiled
"well come back, now held back. You don't have much time" she said.
"thank you" Lara was exhausted and weak but she was grateful. The witch knew what she had given....... She had given her life span in exchange for the spell.
"then you must head back to tenebrous. The spell requires a blood sacrifice and it must be that of the caster. The darkness that has claimed him might claim you just remember that" The witch's words were a cold splash of reality, snapping Lara back to focus. She nodded, her eyes fixed on the wooden box in her hand, the Nexus Stone burning with an otherworldly energy within.
"I'm ready," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. The witch handed her a small, curved dagger.
"Then go, child. The red moon rises soon. May the shadows guide you."Lara took the dagger, her grip steady despite the weight of the witch's words. She knew what she had to do. She turned, stepping back into the darkness, the witch's parting words echoing in her mind: "May the shadows guide you."

As she emerged from the shadows, the palace of Tenebrous loomed before her, its spires reaching towards the crimson moon like skeletal fingers. Lara steeled herself, the Nexus Stone burning in her hand, the dagger ready.
She entered the palace, moving silently through the halls, her heart pounding in anticipation. The throne room, where Kalen's body lay, was just ahead. The guards, loyal to the end, lay slain, their bodies testament to the power that had taken Kalen.
Lara approached the throne, her eyes locked on Kalen's still form. The red moon's light cast an eerie glow, making his skin seem almost... alive.
She raised the dagger, her voice steady as she spoke the words: "Tenebris ex anima."
The spell surged through her, the pain almost unbearable. Lara's vision blurred, her knees buckling as she plunged the dagger into her own chest. The world went dark, and the sound of whispers filled her mind...
Everyone present were shock. Those who recognize the forbidden ancient spell froze in horror. This is not right! The cost of the spell was a life for a life. Only the strongest are able to with stand the darkness and no was heard of the last thousands of years.
The whispers grew louder, a cacophony of tortured souls echoing in Lara's mind. She felt herself being pulled into a void, her life force ebbing away with each passing moment. The pain was a living thing, consuming her, threatening to drag her under.
In the throne room, Kalen's body began to twitch, his chest heaving as life force surged back into him. The air seemed to ripple, the shadows twisting and writting as the spell took hold.
The witnesses stood frozen, horror etched on their faces. The witch, watching from the shadows, her eyes shone with a mix of sadness and awe.
Kalen's eyes snapped open, glowing with an unnatural light. He sat up, his movements jerky, unnatural. His gaze fell on Lara's crumbling form, and a whisper escaped his lips: "Lara..."
The sound was like a crack in the dam, unleashing a torrent of darkness that threatened to consume them all. Kalen's eyes locked onto Lara, and he rose, his movements unnatural, as if pulled by an unseen force.
The darkness closed in, and the screams began...
She dropped weakly in his arms, she coughed out blood as she tried to smile. It worked! He is finally back. Her mind kept chanting in joy..... She knew her life was slipping away but she was happy she did it.
Kalen's face was a blur, his voice a distant echo. Lara's vision was fading, her body weak from the spell's toll. She felt his arms around her, his warmth seeping into her cold skin.
"Lara, no... don't leave me," Kalen's voice was a desperate whisper, his words cutting through the haze. Lara's smile was a faint, bloody curve on her lips.
"H...happy..." she whispered, her eyes locking onto his. "You... back."Kalen's face contorted in anguish, his eyes shining with tears.
"I'll never let you go. Stay with me, Lara."The darkness closed in, and Lara's grip on reality loosened. Her mind whispered one last thought: Worth it... He is back...
Kalen's hold on Lara tightened, as if he could will her life force back into her body. He crled her to his chest, his tears falling onto her face.
"No, Lara... don't go... I owe you one... remember?" His voice was a raw, broken whisper. "You can't leave me now... I'm back... I'm back because of you..."The throne room was a tableau of horror, the courtiers and guards frozen in shock. The witch watched, her eyes pools of ancient wisdom, as the drama unfolded.
Lara's lips moved, forming a single word: "I ... Love ...you" Kalen's scream echoed through the halls, a primal sound of grief and rage. He held her close, his body shaking with sobs.
"Don't leave me... please..."The darkness closed in, and Lara's world went black. But in her mind, a smile lingered, a sense of peace settling over her. She had brought him back.
