Chapter 8: The Hunters Part 1 (Nick's POV)

1914 Words
I got in Dylan’s car, still furious about what happened. I hate Jeremy so much. He is the future Alpha of the ‘Dark Moon Pack’, the only other pack in the area, but they are not half as strong as us, and he is a real asshole. He treats women like objects and when he is tired of one he just tosses her away. The moment I saw him touching Amy my wolf was fighting to take over, but I couldn’t let him, not while she was around. But when he called her a w***e he just snapped and I couldn’t keep him from taking control, he just wanted to tear Jeremy apart.  Luckily the bouncer intervened, if not I don’t know what my wolf would’ve done.  “You wanna tell me what the hell happened back there?” Dylan suddenly asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I growled menacingly in response.  “Hey, don’t take it out on me!” Dylan yelled angrily. “You’re right I’m sorry…” I started, feeling bad about growling at him, “It’s just, Jeremy is such an asshole, I can’t stand him!” I said frustrated. “What did he do?” He asked curiously. “He was molesting Amy, he touched her and wouldn’t let her go… and then he called her a w***e which made my wolf go insane” I explained, feeling my blood boil again just thinking of it.  “You’ve gotta stop doing this, every time you see him something like this happens… I know you both can’t stand each other, but you have to be careful, especially now, with Amy around!” He pointed out.  He was right, I can’t be acting like this, not anymore… I have to be careful with the things I say or do, now more than ever. It’s just so hard keeping my wolf under control with her around. The entire night I danced with other girls, just to try to get her out of my mind, but my eyes kept tracing back to her, always searching for her. She just looked so irresistible and she was MINE. No one else was allowed to have her nor touch her. I wish I could just mark her and claim her so they wouldn’t even try to. “I know, you’re right.” I finally responded. “When am I not?” He said chuckling while raising one eyebrow. “You’re such an i***t” I said smiling.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Amy’s POV ~ April was driving the car while I was looking outside the window. The events from before kept repeating itself in my head, like a song you can’t get rid of. It was all I could think about. I just hope Nick is okay.  I still don’t get why he defended me, I thought he didn’t like me… “Are you okay?” April suddenly asked, breaking the deafening silence while giving me a pitiful look.  “Yeah, I’m fine.” I sighed deeply, “I just don’t understand what the hell happened back there… everything went so fast.” I said, still confused about the events. “I know—” she started, but before she could continue I cut her off. “I mean, who the hell was this guy?! I know Nick knows him, do you know him?” I questioned her, I needed answers. April took a deep breath before answering. “His name is Jeremy. He’s our age and lives near the town. He’s home-taught, that’s why you haven’t seen him at school today. He used to, when we were younger, but after a few fights, his parents decided it was best for him to be home-schooled. Ever since I remember, he and Nick have this rivalry between them, like they are arch-enemies. They clearly hate each other’s guts. And they always get into these fights about the stupidest things.” “So, this is what you meant when you said that he has a short temper…” She chuckled, “Yeah, exactly!”. “It was just so strange… I felt like it wasn’t Nick who was attacking him… it looked like someone else was in control of his body. If that even makes sense.”  “Mmmm, I don’t know… I’m just glad that nothing happened to you and that you’re okay.” She said thankfully while giving me a warm smile. The car came to a stop in front of my house and before I got out she said, “Now, don’t try to think about it too much and enjoy the rest of your weekend okay!” I nodded.  “I mean it!” She yelled while she saw my troubled look. “Fine, I’ll try.” I rolled my eyes before I got out of her car and into my house.  My dad was in the living room with the television on. By the way he was snoring I knew he was asleep. I tried not to make too much noise while I covered him with a blanket and turned off the tv. He woke up and looked at me with surprise when he saw I was early. “You’re home already? How was it?” He asked. “Oh, it was great! I’m just really tired, it’s been a long day.” “Okay, see you tomorrow love.” He said while he closed his eyes again.  I went upstairs and changed my clothes and took off my makeup. When I was done I laid down on the bed trying not to think too much about what happened tonight. And in no time I dozed off in a deep and well-needed sleep.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Nick’s POV ~ We pulled up on the packs house driveway and I got out of the car saying goodbye to Dylan. The moment I got in the house I immediately noticed something was wrong. There was a lot of commotion and everyone was gathered in the kitchen. “What’s wrong?” I asked curiously while everyone looked at me. “Nick, what happened, why are you bleeding? Did they do this to you?” My mom asked worriedly, while taking a close look at my wounds. “What are you talking about? Who are they?” I had no idea what she meant by that and was starting to get worried. “Hunters… one of the pack warriors was on outlook at the northern pack border. When we sent him a mind link and he didn’t report back, we got worried and went to check on him. We found him with a silver arrow in his shoulder.” Ryan, my future third in command said after a moment of silence. “What!” I growled furiously “What are they doing here? I thought they left years ago?!”  “Yes, they did… We have no idea why they came back… They must be out for something.” my sister stated with a panicked look on her face. “Who got hurt?” I questioned. “Jake.” My mother whispered carefully with a sad look on her face. Jake was one of my closest friends and I trusted him with my life. He was going to be my second in command, my Beta.  “Where is he?” I growled. “He’s in the pack hospital, we haven’t heard any news yet…”  “I’m going to check the border, I’ll take some warriors with me! When you hear anything about Jake you mind link me, okay!” I grunted, filled with rage. We transformed into our wolves and started running to the northern border. I took three of our strongest warriors with me: Ryan, Liam and Ben. They were all about my age and they were powerful wolves and excellent fighters.  In no time we reached the border. The smell of the hunters was still lingering in the air together with the scent of Jake’s blood. I could feel my blood boil, just thinking about what they did to him.  We searched the area but there was no trace of them left. They must’ve ran away when they saw more wolves coming to check on Jake.  The cowards.  We searched the area a little longer but it was no use so we decided to go back to the pack house.  When we arrived at the house my mom was waiting for me. “Any news?” I asked with hope in my voice. “He just got out of surgery, he’s in a coma but they said he was going to make it.” She said, giving me a weak smile.  “I gotta go check on him.”  “Nick, you need to rest. You look tired and you need to let me take care of your wounds.” She demanded. “Mom, I need to—” I tried to convince her, before she interrupted me, giving me an angry stare and growling, “Nick”. “Fine…” I sighed.  I got upstairs and took a shower and when I was finished my mom came upstairs to clean my wounds. “You’re going to tell me what happened?” She asked while cleaning them.. “Nothing…” she gave me a disbelieving look in response. “I got in a fight with Jeremy…” I confessed mumbling.  “Again?”  “He was mistreating this new girl…” I didn’t want to tell her that ‘this’ new girl was my mate.  “Well, it’s good that you protected this girl, but still, it doesn’t justify you to fight him!” She said,  kind of annoyed. “Mom, I don’t need a lecture now.” I said, not feeling to talk about this at the moment.  “Okay, we’ll talk tomorrow darling. Just try to get some sleep.” She said while placing a kiss on my forehead. I felt exhausted, but I couldn’t stop thinking about Amy… I can’t risk anyone finding out about her being my mate, not while there were hunters this close to our pack.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Jeremy’s POV ~ I can’t believe I got kicked out again because of Nick. I hated him so much… he was supposed to be this big Alpha, but he was weak and didn’t deserve to be the Alpha of ‘The Crescent Moon Pack’, I did.  I was stronger, faster and bigger than him. And I didn’t let a stupid human make me snap like that. Why on earth would he even care about this girl. Okay she was beautiful, but she was still human. I started thinking, could she be his mate? His growl did sound possessive and he was staring daggers at me. Why did I even care? I got pulled out of my thoughts when I arrived at the pack house and I saw fire coming from inside. There was chaos everywhere. What the hell was going on?! I started running towards the people that were lying motionless on the ground. Some were dead and others barely alive. I looked up and suddenly saw two guys dragging my mother away by her hair and my father in silver handcuffs. I transformed into my wolf and ran towards them.  “Nuh-uh, try anything and they die!” The guy warned me the moment he saw me approach. He was human, I could smell it. Suddenly I was surrounded by more guys, each of them carrying a weapon. They weren’t just any humans, they were hunters. What the hell were they doing here?! “Switch back!” One of them commanded. I did as they ordered me to, not wanting anything to happen to my parents.  “Don’t hurt him, don’t hurt my son!” My mom screamed out. “Ah so the family is complete.” The guy that looked like their leader said “Kill them, we have no use for them. The boss only wants the leaders of ‘The Crescent Moon Pack’.”  They wanted that i***t Nick and his family. And because of them they were killing my entire pack! Before they could shoot my mom I growled menacingly, “WAIT!” I paused for a second thinking about my next words carefully, “What if I can help you get to them?” I spoke, raging with anger. I wanted revenge.  He raised his hand, giving the signal to hold on.  “And how would you do that?” He asked curiously, his eyes narrowing. “I know how to get to Nick, the Alphas son.” I said firmly. “How?” He snarled at me.  “I know who his mate is!” I replied with a wicked grin on my face.
