The Surprise

We order our coffee and then decide to take a walk around the block. I started to feel a little better. Everything that bothers me is melting away as we walk and talk.
Liam: Are you new here?
Me: Yeah. I've been living here for a year now. You?
Liam: Nah. I moved away years ago. I'm only back because my dad's IT company wants a new image. So he wants my creative brain.
Me: Funny, my fiancé works for an IT company called--
Liam: Eleco?
Me: How'd you--
Liam: My dad is Mr. Elec.
Me: OMG?! He was the one who announced Kai's promotion to head of IT. By the way, your dad is hot for his age. You're going to age gorgeously.
Liam: Thanks. I guess i have something to look forward to when I reach his age.
He laughs awkwardly. I probably shouldn't have called his dad hot. But it's true. I stared at him in shock. But as I look closer, I can see the resemblance between them now. Well, hell any girl he gets with is going to have a gorgeous future to look forward to. So the creepy girl is his sister and Kai's boss is his dad. Jeez, it is a small town.
Me: So you are visiting your parents?
Liam: Just my dad and sister. My mom passed away from breast cancer ten year ago.
Me:Your mom passed away?
Liam: Yeah, we all haven't fully recovered yet from her passing.
Me: Im so sorry to hear that.
Liam: Thanks. But i'll be fine. I do miss her though.
We continue walking before I stop in my tracks. I started thinking about the night Kai called me. He said that voice was Mr. Elec's wife. Now how is that possible if she's dead? Monica's words replay in my head. He wouldn't. He loves me. Right?! Yes, of course he does. He said I'm the only girl he wants to be with.
I've been distant from Kai for the past few weeks. I start getting ready for work when I start to feel nauseous. I ran to the bathroom and started throwing up. The nausea passes. I went into the kitchen to grab a donut that Lilly had brought home yesterday. I take one bite and the nausea comes back. I'm back in the bathroom throwing up. I went to knock on Lilly's door and tell her i was sick, and I couldn't work today. She says OK and to feel better.
I stayed home and all day, no matter what I ate, I kept throwing up. I decided to go to the clinic. While I am waiting, it finally downs on me what it could be. I grab my stomach.
Receptionist: Melanie Miles.
I stood up and followed the Receptionist. She leads me to a small room and asks me to sit. This is the worst time to possibly be pregnant. My mind is in full panic mode. I'm sitting in the room waiting to see a nurse. She finally comes in.
Nurse: What brings you in today, Ms. Miles?
Me: I've been throwing up all day and can't hold anything down
Nurse: Are you sexually active?
Me: I am.
Nurse: With or without protection? Are you on the pill? Any contraceptives?
Me: No pills or contraceptives. And only once unprotected.
The nurse is making note of this. She asked me a few more things, then asked me to follow her. She has me pee in a cup, give it to her, and go wait back in the room. After a few minutes, she came back in.
Nurse: Ms. Miles, congratulations. You're two weeks pregnant.
What?! I can't believe it. I'm happy but at the same time sad after knowing that Kai's been acting suspicious. She gave me my proof of pregnancy paper. I thanked the nurse and headed home. The whole way home I couldn't stop staring at the paper. I texted Lilly the good news. She suggested we go to the guys to celebrate. I agreed. When she got off, we headed over.
We arrive at the guy's house around eight a night. Kai isn't home. I haven't told Kai yet about the pregnancy. Everyone has been drinking and celebrating but me. Obviously, I can't drink. Kai came through the door about an hour later. The moment I saw his face, I rushed to the bathroom to throw up. I cleaned up and headed back out only for Lilly to spill the beans.
Lilly: Kai, I'm going to be auntie again.
Kai: What do you mean?
Me: LILLY PLEASE --
Lilly: Melanie's pregnant!
Kai looks over at me. I ran back to the bathroom. I can't face him right now. I wish this was all a dream right now. Dammit Lilly sometimes just shut up. I'm not really mad at her though. I should've told him. He knocks on the door. I ignored the first knock. A few seconds later he knocks again.
Me: Go away.
Kai: Babe, why didn't you tell me?
Me: I said go away!
I start crying because it's too soon, and I'm not ready. Especially with Kai acting the way he is. I told myself I wouldn't regret losing my virginity to him, but it's starting to set in now. I hear his phone ring and he answers. I listen the best I can.
Kai: Not now Sara!
Kai: Wait, what?
Kai: Your what?
He punches the wall and that's the last thing I heard before he says she has to go. What did I just hear? I fling the door open. He is almost out the door when I caught up to him. He was not getting out of this. Everyone is looking at us. They try to play it off that they aren't listening by moving to a corner of the kitchen, but I know they are, and I don't care.
Me: WHO THE f**k IS SARA?!
Kai: No one.
Me: No one?! Try again.
Kai: She's my assistant.
Me: Why am I just now finding out you have an assistant? Also, just finding out it's a girl? And she's calling you at nine at night for something not work-related?
Kai: Melanie, relax, it's not good for the baby.
Me: f**k you Kai.
I called for a cab and went home. I can't f*****g believe him. How could he hide something like that from me? The only reason to hide something like that was if something was going on. I finally arrived home and paid for my cab. I bump into Liam. If anyone knew anything about Sara, it would be him. After all, he is the boss' son.
Me: Hey Liam.
Liam: Hey Melanie. You ok?
Me: Actually no. I'm not OK at all.
Liam: Want to talk?
Me: Do you have some time you can spare?
Liam: For you, I got all the time in the world.
I smiled and asked him if he would like some coffee. He agrees, and we head up to my apartment and have a long conversation.
