"I won't be here for a few days. I have to go out of town for some business." He says as he pulls up to my apartment building and I turn around to meet his eyes.
"When do you leave?" I ask as I reach for my purse and bag from the back seat.
"Tomorrow afternoon. I was wondering if you wanted to spend the night at my place?" I begin to wonder if spending the night together is such a good idea considering the mood he was in not less than an hour ago. However, the idea sounds tempting seeing that I haven't seen him for a three days and from tomorrow I won't be seeing him for a couple more days.
"I'll meet you back at your place, I need to take my car because I've got work tomorrow." I say with a smile and he shakes his head.
"I'll take you to work tomorrow." He says and I give him a look.
"That's not such a good idea, not after what happened today." He rolls his eyes at my words.
"I promise I'll be on my best behaviour." He thrusts out his pinky and I let out a soft laugh.
"You better." I wrap my pinky around his and he gives me a boyish grin. God, this man is gorgeous. "I need to shower, you don't mind waiting?" I ask.
"Go, let me get a parking." I push open the door and step out, but not before he pulls me to him and leaves me with a knee shaking kiss.
"So, Luke is here again." Drake states as he steps into my room uninvited and closes the door behind him. I'm packing an overnight bag when my eyes meet his and they move from mine to the bag. "Going somewhere?" His big brother tone kicks in and I give him a smile.
"I am." I don't offer him anymore information because he's not an i***t, he can figure it out.
"You guys together or what?" He takes a seat on my chair at the desk and spins around before looking at me with a raised brow.
"Something like that. What's with the questions?" I let out a soft laugh and his serious expression tells me that this conversation isn't a joke.
"Just be careful." He's not the first one to tell me this and it does spark a hint of curiosity.
"I thought he was your friend." This time it's my turn to raise a brow at him.
"He is, but that doesn't mean I won't kill him if he hurts you." A smile makes it's way to my face.
"I love you but you don't need to kill anyone for me." He gives me a sad smile. "I can do that all by myself." He lets out a laugh and stands to his feet before walking over to me.
"I know you can, but I can't help but worry about you. You're like my little sister." He wraps his arm around my shoulder and I shove him off me.
"You're three months older than me Drake." I give him my best glare and he pulls me to him before wrapping his arms around my shoulders. I lean my head against his shoulder and wrap my arms around his back.
"I'm just looking out for you. Don't let him mistreat you and if you have any problems, tell me. I'll fix it. I don't like it when you're in pain. You're good at hiding it but you don't need to, not from me." He places a kiss on my head and I wrap my arms around him tighter. "And I love you too." He gives me one last squeeze before he pulls back and I turn around immediately so he doesn't see the tears in my eyes.
We walk down the hallway to his apartment and he lives in the penthouse of one of his hotels. He pushes open the door and I step in first, the first thing I notice instantly is that his scent is everywhere in this apartment. We walk into the massive open plan living room and kitchen, the size of his living room and kitchen is Drake's, Brooke's and my bedroom put together. He has plush black leather couches and a massive HD T.V. mounted on the wall. His apartment is stunning but clearly he hasn't decorated it because there are no carpets or side tables. There are just dark curtains, a dark marble counter top and no dishes in the sink. He either doesn't spend much time here or isn't one for decorating.
"Your house is massive." I say as he takes my bag from me.
"It's not as big as Zak's. He's got a movie room." He shrugs his shoulders and I begin to wonder how it must feel to live in a house with a movie room. I would never leave my house and yet Zak is always at our apartment or next door at Nicolas and Daniel's. "Want a tour?" I nod as I follow him down the hall, still dumbstruck by the idea of someone having a movie room at their house.
"Spare room is down the hall, the bathroom is across and that room is my office. Well it's supposed to be, it's more like a supply closet." He pushes open a door and steps inside as I follow him in. "And this is my room, there's a bathroom through those doors." He points towards a double door and I take in his room.
It's just as simple as the rest of the house. A huge double king sized bed, a black headboard with two side tables on either side and dark navy blue sheets. No extra pillows, just the two and no hint of colour. He has a massive window that over looks the city and dark curtains which match his bedding. My eyes drift to the double doors in the opposite direction of the bathroom and I notice that the doors are open.
"Please don't tell me you have a walk in closet." I tease with a smile and his cheeks turn pink.
"I have a lot of clothes." He's embarrassed and it's fun to watch him squirm for once.
"That's the craziest thing I have ever heard." He places my bag onto the small table beside his bed before giving me a smile.
"Which side of the bed do you sleep on?" He questions as he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer to him.
"Oh no, I'll be sleeping in your guest bedroom. I don't think that bed is big enough for the two of us." I sarcastically reply and he rolls his eyes at me. "Left, I sleep on the left side of the bed." I say before capturing his lips with mine.
"So you're telling me that you brought me here to cook dinner for you?" I wrap my hair up into a bun as I stand against his counter and he rummages through his fridge.
"Or we could get take out?" He closes the fridge and walks over to me with a smirk.
"What do you have in that fridge of yours? I'll make us something." I say with a smile and he takes a step to the side to allow me to walk over and investigate.
"Do you have any macaroni? I can make us macaroni and cheese." I close the fridge and he reaches over to the cupboard above his head and pulls out a bag.
"I've got bacon in the freezer." I nod and he gathers up all the ingredients to make macaroni and cheese.
We sit on his couch and watch pointless television as we eat the macaroni and cheese, I'm not going to lie it did come out better than I expected it to. He's on his second bowl and he nearly empties out the entire bottle of tomato sauce as he pours it over his macaroni and cheese. "I've got a cousin who eats macaroni and cheese like that and he's five." I twist my face in disgust and he gives me his best glare.
"It's delicious." He thrusts out his fork in my direction and I shake my head.
"I refuse to eat cheese and tomato sauce." I push his hand away from me.
"Suit yourself." He takes a bite of his food and gives me a smile.
"I've got ice cream in the freezer. You want some?" He asks as I sit on his counter and he digs through the freezer. "Double chocolate chip mint." He pulls out the small tub and I shake my head.
"You're a child. Has anyone ever told you that before?" I say with a smile as he walks over to me with a spoon in one hand and the tub in the other.
"Because I like ice cream?" He teases as he stands beside me and pops open the lid.
"Yes. Only children eat food the way you do." He takes a spoonful of ice cream and offers me a bite but I shake my head.
"I do spend a lot of time with Hunter." He admits with a smile.
"Christopher's kid?" He nods in confirmation.
"Does he live with his mom or dad?" I ask as he takes another bite.
"His mom and Chris were married for three years before he was born and a year after he was born they got a divorce and Chris got full custody of him. He hasn't seen his mom since." He says before closing the tub of ice cream.
"Does he not ask about her?" I could never picture my life without my mother. If she wasn't around I have no idea what would have become of me. Children need their mothers around. No matter how old they are.
"He never told us, he just came back one day with Hunter and never spoke a word of her again." He puts the ice cream back into the freezer and puts the spoon in the dishwasher before turning it on. "But father's usually never get full custody of their kid, so I reckon some heavy s**t went down for Chris to get full custody of Hunter." He walks back over to me and places himself between my legs.
"So he practically raised him by himself." It does take a lot for a man to raise a kid all by himself.
"He wishes. I practically raised that kid. He lived with me for the first three years because Chris moved in with me. He was always working and I was always around when the kid needed something." He brings his hands to my thighs and pulls me closer.
"So you're basically the kids second dad?" I let out a soft laugh and he joins me.
"Something like that." He pulls me off the counter and I wrap my legs around his waist as he carries me out of the kitchen and to his bedroom.
By the time he returns from his shower I'm already under his comforter and almost asleep. He slides in behind me and wraps his arm around me and pulls me closer to him, he smells of body wash and is very shirtless. He pulls the covers over us and places a kiss on my shoulder. "That was a long shower." I mumble and he let's out a soft laugh.
"I had to make a few calls. Get some rest." He wraps his arm around me tighter and just like that I drift off into a blissful slumber. It feels good to sleep in a proper bed, rather than an uncomfortable single bed in an on call room at the hospital.
The next morning when I wake up to my alarm, I'm on my back and Luke's arm is wrapped around me as soft snores escape his lips. I turn around in his hold and take in his peaceful state. I bring my finger up to trace the freckles on his cheek and he shifts lightly as I smile to myself.
"You're having fun?" His voice is raspy and he opens one eye.
"A lot." I say and he opens his eyes to reveal his magnificent hazel brown orbs.
"Where's your clothes?" I tease and he pulls me closer to him as my body presses against his solid body.
"I have underwear on." He says and I shake my head. "You could always get naked and we can be even." He suggests and I wrinkle my face in disgust at his words.
"You're a pervert." I manage to say before he plants a kiss on my lips.
He pulls open my door for me and I step outside into the wind, I wrap my arms around me as he shuts the door behind me and leans against it.
"Where's your jacket?" He snaps and I roll my eyes at his words. "Here." He takes off his black hoodie and waits for me to put it on. I slip my hands through the sleeves and his cinnamon scent is evident on his hoodie. He pulls the zip up for me and pulls me into his hold, I lean my head against his chest and hold onto him a little tighter.
"Don't get into too much trouble when I'm gone." He says with a little laugh but I can tell that he doesn't mean it. "I'll miss you." His voice changes and I pull back and give him a smile.
"It's only a few days, you'll be fine." I says before placing my lips against his.
"You never know how these trips could go." He says against my lips. "Will you miss me?" He quirks a brow as I shake my head.
"Not even a little." I place my head back against his chest and his hold around me tightens. In that moment the both of us know that it was a lie, I'll miss him more than I should for someone who's only known him for just over two weeks.
"Be safe and don't mess around with girls." I tease as I pull back and give him a playful glare.
"It will be over before you know it." His lips are on mine and just like that the two of us are lost in a moment that I would never trade in for all the money in the world.
I walk into the hospital with my bag slung over my shoulder and turn around to give him one last wave. He throws me back a wave and is back into his car and driving off, my heart aches a little knowing that it's the last time I will be seeing him for a while. I turn around to find Dean leaning against the front desk and chatting away to Lucinda. I walk over to him and he pulls me closer before placing two cold fingers on my neck. "What are you doing?" I swat his hand away as my eyes meet his green ones.
"Just checking to see if you still have a pulse." He says and I give him a confused look. "Did you see the way that boy had his tongue down her throat Luc, I thought she was dead." Lucinda let's out a laugh and gives him a high five as I give them both a glare.
"We're just messing with you Evans." He says as he wraps an arm around my shoulder and pulls me towards him.
"I baked chocolate chip cookies and brought you a plate Doctor Evans." Lucinda sweetly says as she hands me a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
"You didn't have to, but thank you." I say with a smile as I take the plate from her.
"Luc if you weren't married with kids, I would have definitely bought you a ring and taken you to Vegas." Dean says as he tries to grab the plate from my hold.
"I can always just ask Henry for a divorce and marry you." She says with a wink.
"Your husband is the head of Cardio, I'm sure he would find a way to kill me and make it look like I had a heart attack." Lucinda let's out a laugh and for a split second I begin to wonder what my life at this hospital was like before Dean came along.
