THE LONG WEEKEND in Savannah had been a nice break in routine, but Chris was, as always, glad to be home. Even though he was still on leave from his job, he had a book to finish writing and was determined to do so.
The first thing Ted said when he came home from his schooling that afternoon was, “Can we go get Bishop?”
“We sure can, kiddo.”
It was a short drive to the vet’s office, which was located just across Roosevelt Boulevard from the Roosevelt Square Shopping Center. After a brief wait, an attendant brought Bishop into the reception area where Chris and Ted were waiting, and the puppy was all over Ted the moment he spotted him.
Chris paid the bill, and they headed outside to Mabel.
