Just The Beginning
I often wondered how the world always kept going? I mean, how do people just carry on? Crime, wars, illness, etc. How do people follow the laws when they're constantly being broken? People like structure and rules to follow. At least, that's the only reason I can think of. People don't like to stand up against things unless they're being pushed to the extreme. It's gotta be the beautiful things that keep people grounded, right?
I was on my way to work like any other day walking towards the sunset, watching the colors shift from blue to soft pinks and oranges bouncing off the clouds. A sight I could never get bored of. I happened to be staring straight up at the sky when I accidently bumped into a man.
"So sorry! But isn't that the most beautiful sunset?" I said, sturdying myself with my hand on his shoulder, smiling brightly at him, pointing at the clouds. "It sure is." he said, brushing past me. I simply shook my head and went on my way.
I finally got to work and got situated, counting my register, putting clean napkins out, and making sure all of my bottles of alcohol behind my bar were accounted for from the day bartender. A few moments later, my first customer came in. It's friday night so it'll be busy till closing time. He asked for a whiskey neat, so I prepared it and handed it to him. Honestly, the movements are swift and easy now. I do this job because it pays well with the tips. I'm in my third year of residency at the hospital, and my school bills are absolutely ridiculous. Working this job allows me to pay them off faster and afford to live. Around 5pm more regulars make their way into my bar and start their orders. I wrote them down and opened tabs. All those boys that come in here often hit on me. A few of them know I'm a doctor in the makings and have really tried to pin me down. However, dating clients is not my kinda thing. Plus, these guys were easily 10 years older than me and hung with the wrong types of crowds. I simply just play nice to make my tips.
"Hey Alesia, I need help serving! Do you have a moment to serve Table 9? Charlie had to make an urgent call?" My boss asked.
"Of course!" I handed off my bar to my assistant and said I'll be back. This should be easy because this is where I started. I was a waitress here from the moment I started college. I learned the bar tending from the last guy after hours because you made better money up here. He always said a beautiful face and figure always made money, which I hated, but unfortunately, I needed the money, whereas he had to talk and build a rapport with the clients to get tips. I have light brown hair and light blue eyes. I am fairly tall standing at 5 foot 9 inches. I work out, but I'm not a bodybuilder or anything. I just look lean and toned. As a doctor in residency, I see what eating unhealthy can do and how staying active can be crucial to ones health. I would say my body shape is mostly square with little curves in all the right places.
As I start cleaning table 9, a pair of young men who look breathtaking walk in and make direct eye contact with me while talking to the hostess. I make my way back to my bar and start taking drink orders for other tables and the bar. I look back at my table while they get situated and look at menus. When I got a closer look, I was shocked. They're built like fighters or some sort of special forces types of men. They're pale skinned, have bright green eyes, and have huge muscles. Their eyes are almost yellow, to be exact. They must be brothers with eyes like that. I'm passing my drinks out behind the bar to the other waiters and waitresses when Charlie chimes in. "They're staring at you, Alesia," she points. I swat her hand down and giggle. "Can you take the table, and when you're done, I'll take it back? Tell them good things about me!" She asks. "Sure," I smile back. Charlie has been here almost as long as me finishing school herself. She is blond with unnatural God-given curves and ocean blue eyes.
I stared back, knowing I had to take their orders soon. But something made my hair stand up when I started approaching them. Something felt unsafe. My breathing hitched when they spoke before me. Their voices seemed.. angelic. "Hello, Miss.." Baffled, I quickly cleared my throat, "Hello, my name is Alesia. How can I help you? I'll be your waitress tonight." You're so stupid, I thought. You were caught in your own thoughts, and they're smiling!
"Ahh, Hi Alesia, that's a pretty name belonging to a gorgeous woman," the other man said, winking at me. They were gorgeous. However, I can't get this feeling out of my gut. It said to run. I felt my heart quicken. "Haha, thank you," I said, smiling kindly at them, trying not to make a scene on how nervous I actually am. His buddy looked at me questioningly and then to his friend, who just called me gorgeous. "Hi, my name is Devin, and this here is my friend, James. We are new here. Do you recommend anything on the menu?" Devin said. James, who's called me gorgeous, keeps staring at me. I swore I saw him lick his lips? I've had creeps before, but not like this. I simply smile back and recommend the steak with mashed potatoes and their choice of greens. They agreed and I prepared their drinks. A few of the guys at the bar make small talk with me, and my regulars, of course, are making me laugh. They're good at it. They usually make my shifts go fast most nights. I make it back to the two handsome men and decide to flutter my eyelids a little extra and talk a little more flirtatiously in hopes of a nice tip. And play off their weird energy. They smiled big at me with their pearly smile and gave me cash, and said to keep it. I said thank you and went back to the bar. Charlie came back and took the table, allowing me to focus on my bar.
I opened their check and noticed a $100 tip with a phone number and saying "Call me" -James. I simply pushed the receipt off to the side and took the tip. I was shocked but grateful.
A woman who occasionally comes in sat at the bar in business attire. I took her drink order. She had beautiful long hair, an hourglass figure, toned and muscular with bright green eyes, and tanned skin. Wearing a navy blue dress that hugged her in all the right places. She was gorgeous. She caught every single man's eyes in the building. She was polite and thankful for the drink I prepared for her.
"I love seeing strong women in a men's environment making money off of them." She winked at me. I smiled and said, "It pays for my residency bills." She smiled wider. "I'm in the presence of a female doctor. I love that. I knew there was something about you I just adored. I'm waiting for an old business partner to get here. Can I order for him? I'm trying to get a contract with his business." I like her already, too. Smart and strong. She already knows how to butter up a client to get what she wants. I smile wide. "Of course," I take her order and watch a tall, handsome man walk through the door. He's got this weird, marking along his neck that matches hers in a way. Funny, they are on the same side of their neck. Perhaps they're family. They continued to drink and discuss business until closing. They were kind and left a nice tip as well.
As I started cleaning up and counting my register, I couldn't help but get that gut feeling again where my hairs stood up. I glanced up and found my boss organizing the shelves. I brushed it aside and kept working.
Once I was done, I started walking home and had that sensation come again. My heart fluttered, and I turned around and saw nothing. I felt as if I was being followed. The air smelled of sour trash and.. cologne? "Well, hello, gorgeous." I turned around and saw the man from my table earlier that night. What was his name? "Hi? You're James, right? You asked me to call you?" I said, taking a step away. There wasn't anyone there a second ago? He smiled at me.. demonically. A shiver ran down my spine. Everything inside of me screamed to run, but for some reason, my legs had just stopped working. My mind started racing with unanswered questions. How did he get here without me noticing? I didn't hear anyone behind me nor anyone in front of me. "Where did you come from?" I finally blurted out. "I didn't see or hear anything behind me?" He chuckled. He pointed up at a balcony on the 3rd floor. "I live up there. I saw you walking this way from my balcony and jumped down to see you." He did what now? Creep. "You're a creep, and you need to step away from me." I stated firmly, raising my voice at the end while taking a few steps back. He stepped forward, and I reached into my purse, trying to grab my pepper spray. "How did you jump from that far up anyway? That's not human. There are no stairs?" I kept looking up but saw nothing. In an instant, I felt him breathing down my neck. "I'm not human." he snickered into my ear. He grabbed my hand that was inside my purse faster than I could pull away and snapped it. "See?" he said as I screamed. "What the f*ck!? Get away from me! Help!" I screamed, but I was no match for what he did next. He bit me.
I felt a sensation take over me as my body started shaking slightly. I tried to pull away, but he pulled me closer. It felt good? I tried to push away again, but it was no use. The sensation felt so good. I started to close my eyes when I saw a figure in my haze. My thoughts babbled, and I dropped to the ground and dozed off.
