CHAPTER 1
My name is Mikaella. I don’t have a family name since I’m an orphan. Sister Raela Johnson, the orphanage’s head assistant, discovered me on a park bench as an infant during a snowy winter season. She picked me up and brought me to the orphanage house where I grew up.
On the street, when I was on my way back home from the supermarket with one of the staff from an orphanage, we saw a commotion.
In front of the hospital, there is a mother who begs help from the nurse to save her son from dying. Unfortunately, the nurse demanded a down payment.
“But we don’t have money for the down payment now.” The mother sobbed and begged for consideration for her son.
“Get out of here! If you don’t have money, leave before I call the police! Bring them out of the starting gate!” The nurse shouted and ordered the guard to kick them out.
The guard dragged them out into the street. I feel sorry when watching them, especially for her son, who’s on the brink of death.
If I have the ability to help people in need, no more weak people will suffer.
We approached them and helped them to stand up.
“Thank you.” The mother said it while sobbing about not having a chance to save her son.
“What should I do now? I don’t want to lose my only son. Please help us.” The mother screamed for our help.
When I looked at her son, he was in agony.
“How could we help? We’re just orphanage freeloaders.” Sebastian stated.
“I’m sorry for asking for help without knowing your situation.” The mother was ashamed of what she had requested.
The mother stood up and carried her son home while sobbing. We can’t do anything for them, only watch them leave.
“Sebastian, why do people need to have money first, before saving someone’s life?
In the hospital, why did the nurse ask them for money for treatment for her son?” I asked Sebatian because of the situation I witnessed earlier.
“In this world, money is powerful. For example, at the hospital, the nurse rejected them since they had a policy. Because there are policies, the lower ranks, who work for the establishment, are unable to oppose the higher ranks.” Sebastian explained it to me, but I’m still not sure I get it.
“Why didn’t the nurse ask the doctor or a higher rank if they could save a person without money?” I asked about it.
“I don’t know, maybe the hospital never accepted patients without money from the beginning.” Sebatian stated.
“I believe hospitals save people, not kill people, right? Sebastian listened intently as I emphasized my thoughts.
“Why do you have so many questions at a very young age? You are only six years old, but you have a lot on your mind. Ended! You’re a very astute observer.” Sebastian praised me. But he told me to stop asking so many questions.
“Perhaps he’s getting annoyed with me now?” I whispered.
When we arrived at the orphanage, I went straight to my room and took a rest a little.
I laid down on my bed and thought about what had happened in the hospital earlier.
“Money. Money. What is the true power of money? Why are people so eager to amass enormous sums of money? If I could save poor people from all illnesses, they wouldn’t need money to live.” I grumbled to myself.
“Mikaella, can you assist me with making dinner? Anne called me.
I jumped off the bed and opened the door.
Anne is a cook in the kitchen at the orphanage.
Anne picked me up from my room and headed to the kitchen. I asked her a question.
“Anne, do you need money?” I asked.
“Yes, Mikaella. Why did you inquire about me? Do you mind lending me some of your money, Mikaella? Hahaha! Anne laughed because she thought it was a silly question from a six-year-old child.
“No! I don’t have any money to give to Anne. I only asked because I wanted to know how important money is in people’s lives.
“Well, it’s very important, since money can buy anything.” According to Anne,
“Money can also buy life?” I inquired, and Anne wondered why I was discussing money and life.
“Why do you have such questions, Mikaella? Is there something that happened to you earlier?” Anne wanted to know the source of my question.
And so I told Anne what I had witnessed in the hospital.
“You can’t do anything about that. You ask if money can buy people’s lives? There are some of them, I think. But I hope you will forget about this conversation for the time being. When you grow up, you will understand everything about the reality of the world. As of now, please focus on playing and studying.
One afternoon, all the orphanage children gathered near the playground for a snack.
I saw an old man outside the gate. And pleading with passers-by for food.
I went closer to him to hand over my food through the gate.
“Grandpa, would you accept my food? It isn’t much, but it will satisfy your hunger for a while. Grandpa accepted my food when I handed it to him.
“Thank you, child. How about your snack? This could be your share. The elderly gentleman was concerned about me.
“Don’t worry, grandpa; I’ll be having dinner soon.” I said.
“You are a very kind child. God will shower you with blessings.“ Grandpa complimented me.
“What is your name?” Grandpa asked.
“I am Mikaella. I don’t have a family name since I don’t have my family. However, the people at the orphanage adored me. I explained.
Grandpa started eating the food. He asked me one question after he finished.
“Child, what would your wish to be like if you could have it?” Grandpa asked me.
“I want to help poor people with their illnesses. “As a result, they don’t need money to go to the hospital.“ I answered.
“Do you have any wishes for yourself?” Grandpa asked again.
“No, I am happy now with the people around me because they are nice to me. I smiled.
“I see. “I’m glad I got to meet a very kind child today.” Grandpa smiled and granted my wish.
You can heal people with your healing power, but remember, don’t bring the dead to life. It will reduce half of your life span. That is the consequence of breaking the rules. And if you heal people after breaking the rules, it will reduce your life to 5% of its original length. Be mindful.
When I heard Grandpa’s words, I was taken aback. Why did he grant my wish? Who is he?
“Grandpa, who are you? Grandpa didn’t respond to me, but he smiled and said, “You can help people now,” before he disappeared.
I keep standing at the gate, spacing out, because I can’t believe that this is happening.
Suddenly, someone called my name.
“Mikaella, what are you doing there? Return here now; it is time to study. Raela called me. And I happily returned inside, because of the blessing I had received.
